Basilica of Santa Croce Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

This apartment, named 'Achille', has recently been renovated in high detail, and is located in a small piazza in the very heart of the city, just a 5 minute walk east of the Duomo. It is also just minutes from Piazza San Marco and Piazza Santa Croce. The apartment is 1 of 7 in a 17th century patrician building, with at ground level a large entry in the style of that period. Surrounded by shops of all types, it is also in close proximity to a large city supermarket, and the fruit and vegetable market of Sant’Ambrogio. The gamut of excellent restaurants and famous trattorias in the immediate vicinity are unlimited!

“Achille” is on the 3rd floor (no elevator) and measures 123 sq.meters / 1324 sq.ft. It sleeps maximum 5, is fully furnished, and is light and airy. Ideal for a family of 4 or 5. The entry hall leads into a large living room with fireplace and facing north onto a large, sunlit, plant-filled courtyard. The adjoining master bedroom faces the lovely courtyard and has an ensuite bathroom (tub/shower) and independent toilet. To the other side, the double bedroom also faces the same courtyard, and has a bathroom (shower). The additional single bedroom can also serve as a study. The large “sunken” kitchen/dining area is 9 steps down into a charming and cozy ambiance. It has an open-beam ceiling, a high-tech stainless steel workspace with lots of counter space; it includes stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge with freezer. The dining table is for 6. There is a small laundry/utility room, with washing machine.

The apartment has newly laid hardwood “Doussier” floors and is furnished in an interesting mix of classic and modern styles. Bathrooms are decorated with Stucco Veneziano and have all new fixtures. Thick walls and double-glazing ensure quiet, and thermal insulation. There is central heating, air conditioning, Wireless Internet Access, Digital TV, satellite hook-up and DVD. Kitchenware and linen are supplied. Maid service is available on request.

An independent and fully equipped 1 bedroom apartment, also owned by us and named 'Gea', faces 'Achille' on the same 3rd floor landing, and can be rented together with it, to accommodate a larger group of 7 persons. Please see our website for details. Our Skype buddynames: 'florenceapts' and 'emylina'.

About The Owner

When Emily Rosner took a semester off from her studies at New York University to travel around Europe, she had no idea that she'd end up meeting the man who would become her husband, Maurizio. In 1970 when she arrived, Florence had an exciting atmosphere with the numerous anti-war movements that students were organizing. It was far different from suburban Long Island, where Emily was from. She soon found herself a part of a group of 20 or more students that would meet every night and discuss politics over dinner. Among them was Maurizio. As do many expats who arrive in Florence without a plan, Emily went out looking for work, first finding a job at a disco, and then at a leather shop in Santa Croce.... ----- Article from 'The Florentine' - Oct 22nd, 2009 The rest is history! Maurizio and I got married and had two boys, Jacopo and Arturo. In the beginning, I taught English and developed audio/visual courses to teach English to children. We opened our bookshop in 1979, and it has become a watering hole for the entire Florentine expat community, a must-stop for English-speaking tourists, and an important textbook supplier for foreign study programs. After being in Florence for most of my adult life, I still find time to appreciate the city. I often stop while riding my bike across Ponte alla Carraia, taking a moment to enjoy one of the most splendid views of the river and the city. When I am walking around the city center, I make a concerted effort to look up and notice the details of the buildings. Florence never ceases to surprise me, in all of its beauty!

Why The Owner chose Florence

Best Italian apartment I've stayed in

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of five adults that rented this apartment from Emily. It was perfect. We all felt like we had our own space, but there was light, airy and comfortable common space. The apartment was renovated to a very high standard, how I would like to renovate my own home.

The apartment was very clean and well stocked, and Emily was available if anything was needed or if you had questions.

The location is excellent and walkable to all the main sites.

We've used VRBO quite a bit for European travel, and this was the nicest apartment we've rented! I highly recommend this apartment in Florence!

Great location, great flat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented Emily's flat for four nights in Florence early May and then invited another couple to join us. The flat is lovely and works so well for two couples as each of us had our own suite.....king bed with bath. The kitchen is wonderful, even though we did not cook it is fully equipped and was the perfect spot to have a glass of wine and bite of cheese. Location, location, location.....need I say more! Emily was very helpful before and after our arrival. Definitely will be a repeat when we return to Florence.

A fantastic rental!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a trip that included 5 days in Florence. We are 2 parents and 3 young adult children We always rent apts. when we travel, so are very experienced at this sort of thing. First, Emily is an absolute pleasure to work with. She was extremely responsive prior to our trip (even to my annoying emails about whether there was a blow dryer, etc) and responded very quickly. The apt. is immaculate and organized with anything you could possibly need. She provided us with all kinds of extras-a map, restaurant recommendations, a local cell phone, and a manual for the apt. She is super organized. She also suggested that we either contact her during our stay with questions or visit her at her lovely bookstore (which we did!). We found the location to be ideal. Our joke was whatever address we needed to get to was a 15 minute walk in whatever direction. We really appreciated being able to relax all together in the living room at the end of a long day. Emily's excellent ratings are well deserved!

Beautiful Apt./Excellent Location

  • 5 of 5

My husband, three teenagers, and I recently returned from our vacation in Europe. The Achille apartment in Florence was a highlight of our trip and a perfect place for all of us. We had plenty of room to "spread out," the kitchen and furnishings were excellent, and Emily was so wonderful to work with. It's location is ideal. As a result, we could spend the day "exploring," but easily return to rest between our outings. Despite the fact that our visit happened to coincide with a 200-year heat wave, we were cool and comfortable at Achille. Each room was outfitted with its own air conditioning unit. Our stay couldn't have been more pleasant. We have no hesitation referring this property to others. It will DEFINITELY be our first choice on return trips. Thanks, Emily!

The highlight of our trip!

  • 5 of 5

We recently had the pleasure of spending 6 nights at Achille, and completely agree with all the rave reviews. This was my first time renting directly from an owner and Emily's attention to detail even before we arrived left me with nothing to worry about. Emily had to be out of the country during our stay but her husband, Maurizio, was every bit the gracious host - even helping my husband navigate the markets to find a new pair of pants. There were 4 of us - my husband and I (late 50's), our 20 year-old daughter and my 54 yr-old brother, and the apartment suited us perfectly. It is large, impeccably designed, extremely clean, and well appointed with everything a traveler could want. It is even lovelier than what the photos and description show. I especially appreciated the "book" that listed emergency contact numbers, favorite restaurants and shops, and directions on how to operate the appliances. Small details such as indiscreet mosquito zappers allowed us to keep the windows open and enjoy the sounds of Florence. The apartment was so comfortable that we found ourselves adjusting our tourist schedule so that we could linger in the kitchen in the morning over a cup of espresso. I only wish my own kitchen was as well equipped as Achille.

The location is fantastic, just minutes from the heart of Florence, with superb restaurants and gelaterias nearby, and a grocery store about a block away. At the end of our trip that took us to Paris, Rome, Tuscany and Florence we went around the table and talked about what we most enjoyed. My brother said his favorite thing was our time at Achille because it allowed us to experience Florence as if we lived there rather than as tourists. I think that speaks highly of the how comfortable Achille is! We are all looking forward to returning someday - hopefully for a longer time!

Wonderful stay in Florence!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 8 night stay at the Achille. We stayed with our young adult son and daughter and everyone was very comfortable. The location is great and there is a grocery store and market close by. The apartment is large and had everything we needed. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and easy to clean up. Emily was very nice, provided many recommendations and helped arrange our taxi to the airport. We asked Emily if she knew of anyone who provides a private tour of Tuscany and she recommended Gianni Baldinotti of Your Tuscany Tour. His tour was outsnading and was one of the highlights of our trip. We had a fabulous time in Florence and in the apartment and hope we can return someday! We highly recommend both the apartment and Gianni!
