About the property

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms , 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5) + Attached Unit available

This apartment, named 'Achille', has recently been renovated in high detail, and is located in a small piazza in the very heart of the city, just a 5 minute walk east of the Duomo. It is also just minutes from Piazza San Marco and Piazza Santa Croce. The apartment is 1 of 7 in a 17th century patrician building, with at ground level a large entry in the style of that period. Surrounded by shops of all types, it is also in close proximity to a large city supermarket, and the fruit and vegetable market of Sant’Ambrogio. The gamut of excellent restaurants and famous trattorias in the immediate vicinity are unlimited!

“Achille” is on the 3rd floor (no elevator) and measures 123 sq.meters / 1324 sq.ft. It sleeps maximum 5, is fully furnished, and is light and airy. Ideal for a family of 4 or 5. The entry hall leads into a large living room with fireplace and facing north onto a large, sunlit, plant-filled courtyard. The adjoining master bedroom faces the lovely courtyard and has an ensuite bathroom (tub/shower) and independent toilet. To the other side, the double bedroom also faces the same courtyard, and has a bathroom (shower). The additional single bedroom can also serve as a study. The large “sunken” kitchen/dining area is 9 steps down into a charming and cozy ambiance. It has an open-beam ceiling, a high-tech stainless steel workspace with lots of counter space; it includes stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge with freezer. The dining table is for 6. There is a small laundry/utility room, with washing machine.

The apartment has newly laid hardwood “Doussier” floors and is furnished in an interesting mix of classic and modern styles. Bathrooms are decorated with Stucco Veneziano and have all new fixtures. Thick walls and double-glazing ensure quiet, and thermal insulation. There is central heating, air conditioning, Wireless Internet Access, Digital TV, satellite hook-up and DVD. Kitchenware and linen are supplied. Maid service is available on request.

An independent and fully equipped 1 bedroom apartment (sleeps 2), also owned by us and named 'Gea', faces 'Achille' on the same 3rd floor landing, and can be rented together with it, to accommodate a larger group of 7 persons. (See listing #302215.) Please see our website for details. Our Skype buddynames: 'florenceapts' and 'emylina'.

About The Owner

When Emily Rosner took a semester off from her studies at New York University to travel around Europe, she had no idea that she'd end up meeting the man who would become her husband, Maurizio. In 1970 when she arrived, Florence had an exciting atmosphere with the numerous anti-war movements that students were organizing. It was far different from suburban Long Island, where Emily was from. She soon found herself a part of a group of 20 or more students that would meet every night and discuss politics over dinner. Among them was Maurizio. As do many expats who arrive in Florence without a plan, Emily went out looking for work, first finding a job at a disco, and then at a leather shop in Santa Croce.... ----- Article from 'The Florentine' - Oct 22nd, 2009 The rest is history! Maurizio and I got married and had two boys, Jacopo and Arturo. In the beginning, I taught English and developed audio/visual courses to teach English to children. We opened our bookshop in 1979, and it has become a watering hole for the entire Florentine expat community, a must-stop for English-speaking tourists, and an important textbook supplier for foreign study programs. After being in Florence for most of my adult life, I still find time to appreciate the city. I often stop while riding my bike across Ponte alla Carraia, taking a moment to enjoy one of the most splendid views of the river and the city. When I am walking around the city center, I make a concerted effort to look up and notice the details of the buildings. Florence never ceases to surprise me, in all of its beauty!

What an amazing time we had in Florence.Emily was incredibly gracious, informative and helpful. She gave us wonderful recommendations and was easily accessible. The apartment was beautiful, well appointed and in the perfect location. The kitchen was my dream kitchen; a cook's paradise! We visited with our three adult children and easily got around the city and had plenty of space to come home to.We will definitely come back and stay at Achille. It truly made our family vacation complete.Thank you Emily for your incredible hospitality.

Emily's description is completely accurate. This property is a true gem. You can see the Duomo from the front steps of the building. The location is perfect. The apartment is in excellent condition. It was a real treat for our family of 5 to stay here. I'd book again in heartbeat! Thank you, Emily!

Lovely apartment in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This is probably one of the nicest holiday rentals we have stayed in. High end, spacious and well equipped kitchen - really made us feel at home. Lovely modern bathroom too. Plenty of room for 5 people. The apartment is very well kept and homely.

The location is great. The flat is very central to everything. A 10 minute walk to the Uffizi and approximately 10 minute walk to the Galleria dell'accademia in another direction. Make sure you book these well in advance of your trip - especially in high season. Also if you want to climb the Duomo, book that as well and make sure you bring proper attire as stated on the Duomo website.

Make sure to take a walk directly from the flat, down the Borgo degli Albizi and carry on straight down until you reach the Piazza della Repubblica for some interesting local shops and cafe's. I loved watching all the locals cycling up and down in their Italian finery and heels!

Two notes: -

1. Be prepared for 63 steep stone steps up to the apartment - if you are carrying suitcases, it is a fair effort but remember you will only need to carry them up once. :-)

2. The entrance to the apartment is directly on the street and close to the road so just keep your eye out for traffic - there is a large old scruffy wooden entrance door at street level which is no reflection of the apartment within, which is very lovely.

Emily could not have been nicer. She provided us with a map of the local area and pointed out some of her favourite spots and local eateries. There was also a very binder full of useful information.

We absolutely loved our stay here and would not hesitate to recommend this apartment. I miss Florence already!

Great hosts

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was great and Emily was the best host. We went to her for help with various things duruping the trip and she was always glad to help. The location is great, just a long block from the Duomo. Close to many sites really and good restaurants. We walked everywhere we wanted to go. About a 15 minute walk to the train station. The apartment is three floors up ( no elevator) so is a bit of a climb but that didn't bother us. It was great having a full apartment (with a beautiful fully equipped kitchen ) instead of a hotel room. Everything was neat and clean. The bathroom in the master bedroom is big but the separate toilet was small. All in all a great place, we would definitely stay again.

Large and lovely apartment at a very convenient location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is large and well appointed. It has a full kitchen and the large dinning area is very nice. Not only it's very close to Duomo, it's close to plenty of dinning options. Emily is a very friendly and helpful host. If you have time, check out her bookstore right next to Duomo.
