This contemporary house, surrounded by olive trees and nested in the Mediterranean vegetation of the Vallée de l’Uzège, will offer all amenities for your perfect vacation in the South of France. The location will allow for day trips to Nimes (the ancient Roman City), Uzes (a small charming town, with a beautiful seventeenth century architecture), Le Pont du Gard (the amazing 2000 year old aqueduct built by the Romans), Avignon (once the imposing Pope city, site of the internationally renowned Festival), and much more! Or if you simply want to do nothing, lie down and relax outside in the Mediterranean sun by the pool.

The house - a 30 minute-drive from nearest airport and TGV station (in Nîmes, Gard) - is located in Garrigues Ste Eulalie, a small village 10 kilometres from historical Uzès.

Lovely house set in an Olive grove.

  • 5 of 5

This is the sixth time we have rented in France and this has been the very best by far. Lovely house in a perfect location. We have been impressed by the care given to the very nice swimming pool and Stephanie has looked after the house for us.

We know the area quite well and for us the two top attractions are Pont du Gard, which can be visited by car or viewed from the river by kayak from Collias. A little over an hour away at Les Baux is the Carrieres de Lumieres. This quarry is the perfect space for famous works of art to be projected onto the walls and almost brought to life. When the weather is hot it is a relief to go into the quarry which is at a stable cool temperature. You may need to take a jacket. The town of Les Baux is quite a hike up a hill but well worth the effort. Go early. Parking is not always easy.

La Bergerie, the restaurant in Garrigues is very good, as is L'Univers in Arpiallarges where you sit in front of the Mairie in the shade of a large plane tree.

It would have been nice if the TV could have learned to speak English! (Or at least we could have found the best French channel for the news and weather.)

A wonderful holiday and we very much hope to return next year.

Harvest season in Languedoc

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house in a picturesque setting. The house has everything you need and the pool is lovely. We stayed for a week in September and were able to go on daily bike rides on village roads with minimal traffic, watching the vines being harvested. Garriques has a wonderful boulangerie and restaurants in Uzes, a short drive away, were fabulous. We will be back!!

L'Olivette/L'ovely!

  • 5 of 5

Have just enjoyed the perfect holiday here at L'Olivette. As a family of four plus our friend and her daughter, we were pleased that the house was bigger and more spacious than the photos led us to believe. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite so was perfect for my friend to have her privacy, and the other two bedrooms were equally suitable for us, plus a very large bathroom.

The property is homely, clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped. The owner was helpful from our initial enquiry onwards, and provided just the right amount of information and top tips for ensuring our stay was enjoyable and relaxing. Was also on-hand via e-mail for any enquiries during our stay.

We had a great time around the pool every day. Nearby town of Uzes has many, many restaurants to choose from plus the Saturday morning market which is best visited from 8.00 in the morning before it gets too hot. Pont Du Gard is spectacular, kayaking underneath it is safe and fun and would recommend an evening meal at the restaurant to see the Pont du Gard lit up, plus food was excellent. The amphitheatre at Nimes is amazing and a late afternoon visit on a Thursday, meant that we could then stay to enjoy the evening market plus there was musical entertainment down every street we turned. The party atmosphere was fantastic. A quiet afternoon led us to drive half an hour to Anduze where we went on the steam train ride passing beautiful scenic river and hilltop views, and again a good choice of restaurants for our tea.

Had a really memorable stay, would definitely recommend this house and region to our friends. Only been home for one day, and am already missing L'Olivette.

Amazing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We too were not familiar with the area and fell in love the minute we arrived. We had our two children (5 and 2 and a half) and the house was perfect. The rooms are a great size and the living room area and kitchen are open concept and great for cooking, eating and playing with the kids. After most busy mornings of enjoying the area (markets, buskers at night, great restaurants in Uzes, the River Gard, canoeing and of course the Haribo musuem) we came "home" and spent hours by the pool. The property is very nice, the house is well-kept and clean and the owners were very easy to work with.

Thanks again!!

Wonderful setting amongst olive groves

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience of renting a house in France having camped for many years when our children were little. We also previously stayed in areas of Provence which we frequented anually, so it was a delight to find an area as food or even better and less touristy. Having said that, we have rented for many years in a variety of states in the USA so do know when a rental home is good. This one certainly is and has a homely touch that is worth a lot!

The setting is wonderful with an mini olive grove as a garden and an excellent and clean pool, (with shade if required). The kitchen is very well equipped with quality cooking utensils and plenty of cutlery and crockery.

Previous reviews mention the range of places to visit so I won't repeat them, but can add that if you do want to go to the beach I would estimate about an hour to Grande Motte from previous experience (probably the best sandy beach but not that pretty) but with a setting like this the Med is probably not worth it.

If you are a cyclist the routes are fabulous but there is much to be gained from an evening stroll around the village which is bigger than you would think.

Avignon Sud with a Gallerie Lafayette is about an hour away if you come with young adults who need retail therapy. Basically you can be within 30 minutes of the history of Nimes, the wonderful Pont du Gard , Haribo Museum (not as much of a rip off as described and very good fun), beautiful villages and finally Uzes (10 mins) which is one of the friendliest and attractive French towns we have visited.

I really would recommend both the house and the area.

A great home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We did not know this area at all, so it was an unexpected gem out of the crazy traffic of Province in summer and ideal base camp, where by the time we left after two weeks our list of things to do had gotten bigger! Top on our list to start was relax, swim, bike, tennis -- perfect base for those activities, with the local tennis courts just around the corner, the lovely pool at our feet. The modern house, comfortable furnishings, and pool area were ideal for family holiday. We brought bikes, but two are there and would have served us well. Some local highlights: Kayaking down the Gardon, under the Pont du Gard (would recommend at least 2 times!), Visit to Aven d'Orgnac caves, Shopping the Saturday market in Uzes, wine tasting at the local vineyards (and stocking up), bumping into the local "running of the bulls" and some special dinners out- especially La Privadere (note advance bookings needed at nearby restaurants). Nimes also had some great summer concerts scheduled in the Roman amphitheater (tickets at FNAC, so plan ahead, or note the theater is closed to visits on those days). Had it not been so hot during our stay, the house is well situated for day trips to all the major historical cities of the area (next time!). We had foreseen getting down to the beach more often (just over an hour to sand beaches), but the nearby rivers ended up more appealing and well worth swimming in! Do note the village has limited services, so car is needed -- but there is a bakery with long hours and a few extra items, and nearest Spar can be reached by bike through the vineyards, if you do not want to drive....Hope to visit again! If you like the outdoors and unpretentious comfort -- you will enjoy a holiday here.

Owner's Response: This is so nice to hear, thank you for your endorsement. I agree that our home is ideally located in an area that makes trips to the sea, the river or the mountain easy for a one day excursion (but always longer if you wish). The Collines du Bourdic (the largest wine cooperative in the Gard) and the Chabrier winery in walking-distance Bourdic is certainly an added +. Degustation is recommended... And yes, a canoe trip under the Roman bridge or a concert in Nimes arenas are certainly pleasant treats! :) Please do come again!
