Our home gives you the opportunity to be as active or relaxed as you wish - cook up a storm or choose from a number of local restaurants, read, nap, step out the door and hike the forest or ocean bluff trails, enjoy our private hot tub or go to any of three community complexes with heated pools, sauna, tennis courts. We are in a banana belt spot with more sun and less wind than the ocean bluff. We have a panoramic ocean view, with lots of wild life you can watch from the living room, dining room or deck (deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, many variety of birds, and the occasional fox).
Our recent remodel allows a cozy, secure environment with heated floor, efficient wood stove, double pane glass, comfortable furniture, all within an original, traditional Sea Ranch style home where 'living lightly on the land' is practiced.
We encourage you to come sample our bit of paradise--you will keep coming back, as we have done for 35+ years!
The owners are Doug and Elke Paul. Doug is a native Californian, Elke is from Germany. They met and were engaged within 3 weeks! They have two grown children, and have been coming to Sea Ranch as a family since 1975. Doug was a tax CPA, now partially retired. Elke is a Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner. Her passion at Sea Ranch is to work in her garden and to hike. Doug is on the Archives and finance committees at Sea Ranch, and is enjoying coming to Sea Ranch without working on the remodel!

Sea Ranch is one of the few places where I totally relax and drop all of the 'every day' issues that consume so much of our energy and thoughts. To me it is an escape to recharge one's batteries.
Total comfort in a mild climate with as much or as little to do as I wish.
Just wanted to say what a wonderful relaxing day we've had at your home. First, thanks for setting up a fire for us, and the flowers in the kitchen were a lovely touch. We had planned to get out and about today, but found ourselves so content that we stayed here instead. The design and decor of the house are so tastefully and smartly done. We are very impressed. To list all the things we like would take too long, but if we ever are so fortunate as to have our own vacation home, we will be taking many cues from Horizon! The views are amazing too, and we couldn't be happier. We plan to pull ourselves away from the coziness tomorrow, and explore the hiking trails. Thanks so much for sharing your home. We were fortunate to be able to stay for a week. The home is beautiful and fully equipped making it an easy place to stay. The setting is amazing. It is a great place for hiking, picturesque views at every turn and a relaxing time away from home. Doug is wonderful to interact with and extremely responsive. We would definitely recommend this home.
Stayed here and loved it. Beautiful (almost perfect) view of iconic white barn, meadow, forested hills and whitewater ocean. I really don't think view can be beat. The home is well furnished and cared for with everything you need. Kitchen is great and well equipped. Nice fireplace. Comfortable living and bedroom. And great hot tub. (FYI - Hot tub cycles quietly from 8-10am so don't worry about trying to turn off if you use in morning as it's normal to let it go) Doug is great guy and really cares about you enjoying the place. Goes the extra mile. Not cheap, but noplace in sea ranch is and comparatively I thought was reasonably priced for what you get. These are cluster homes so neighboring properties are closer together than some other properties on sea ranch, but our experience was that all of the neighbors were pretty quiet and respectful. The design maximizes privacy with only one neighboring window really even visible. There are some small dogs that can bark next door however the owners seemed to take care to stop them fairly quickly so it was never an issue. All around great place. Not really for small kids, perfect for a couple trying to get away for relaxing quiet time in TSR with spectacular views.
My wife & I wanted to get away and spend a few days looking & listening to the ocean. Neither of us had been to Sea Ranch so the search began. Within a few days we were confirmed and loading the car. Amazement would not fulfill the feeling upon entering the home and looking out a wall of windows and seeing the ocean with no obstruction of view. Sitting on the deck provided the same joy but with ocean air added in. Doug was quick & easy to contact for recommendations on dining, hiking and anything else we needed. I could go on & on, but by simply saying "We'll be back" sums it up best. Thanks Doug!!!!
Thank you so much for letting us rent your lovely home. It was an absolutely wonderful stay at Horizon--so aptly named. Stepping into the main room each morning to the wrap-around view of the ocean was quite a treat. Also, your decor and facilities are very nice; it was great to stay in a place that is obviously a home, as opposed to many of the places we have stayed which are investment properties and not very well equipped for cooking and feeling at home. I usually travel with a kitchen
utensil bag--my favorite knives, tongs, tools, etc. for just that reason. However I didn't need to open it at Horizon since your kitchen is so well stocked. We also particularly liked your Cobalt glass dishware--very elegant. We had a thoroughly relaxing, rejuvenating stay at Horizon, and hope to be back next year!
The Sea Ranch is a private community established in the 1960s with the underlying philosophy of 'living lightly on the land.' The homes nestle into the landscape and must be of earth colors. Views are maximized, and structures are clustered, leaving a maximum of open space. Just 5 miles north is the lumber town of Gualala, which has been transformed into a village with services for any needs. The Sea Ranch property includes trails thru meadows and forests in addition to the bluff trails and beaches. There are three recreation centers, and a historic barn.

Note that linen rental is available for $35 plus tax of $3.15 for a total of $38.15 per stay. Linen consists of Queen sheets and two sets of towels. Pillows and blankets are always provided.
The $250 security deposit is due to confirm your reservation. The balance of funds is due two weeks before arrival. Preferred payment is by check, PayPal may be used with the PayPal processing fee being charged to your deposit.
