Why Helen Shustikov chose St. George
We already owned one house in downtown Staten Island, when we came into some money and started looking for another one. Helen spotted this property by chance walking around and knew it was the one we needed. The owner was ready to take it off the market, but we tracked him down and persuaded him to sell.
What makes this Apartment unique
This is a unique house on a unique street, a row of eight identical Victorians, all preserved intact from the 1870s (we think), set back from the street by an elevated sidewalk with abundant trees and greenery. Our neighborhood is one of the more racially and economically diverse in a city famous for that -- with hippie cafe owners, struggling immigrants and infiltrating hipsters all sharing the same territory. Again, not for everybody, but we love it.

Our stay at "Vertigo Villa" was delightful...
The elevation of the apartment has a wonderful view Verrazano Bridge and the roof tops of Staten Island. The sidewalk in front of the house is planted lushly and provides a nice walk down to a bus stop where you can catch a bus down to the ferry. The taxi services on the island are very good too.
The "Villa" was clean and bright with large bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and a good sized living room that made our stay quite pleasant. The apartment is well supplied and a very comfortable place to stay. We would rent it again.
Third time at this location
We've stayed twice in this apartment and once in the main portion of the house. Super close to the ferry and room to spread out at the end of a long day of sight-seeing. It is not fancy but has everything you need. We would stay here again. (and again and again :-) )
Thank you so much. The only thing better than a satisfied customer is a satisfied repeat customer!
Good for Family
A family of six and we have no regret staying 3 nights in this property. With three bedrooms and functioning kitchen the feeling was very homely. Bathroom was clean with enough towel and everywhere was neat. We turned the long walk to and from the ferry to an opportunity for family exercise. We realized after the first day that there was a parking facility at the ferry for just $8 per day but we still chose to walk the second day, with our 7 year old boy. The stairs were plentiful and steep and could be a source for concern with little kids, otherwise, it's all part of the fun. For the price and the free ferry to and from the heart of NYC, it was worthwhile and we will certainly explore the property again, next time we visit the city.
The house was clean and it was very private
Lots of stairs for someone who just had foot surgery but kids loved their private bedrooms. House creaked some and scared my daughter right out of her room. Which was funny. A microwave would have been nice but overall a nice place to stay and was very clean..lots of towels and clean linens.
Thank you for a wonderful stay! The house had a great amount of space and the location was perfect to get to the ferry to visit the city!
The house was easy to get to from JFK. As many have said there are a lot of stairs, but we left with legs of steel. The house fit all our needs & was very comfortable.
Our neighborhood is known as either Downtown Staten Island or St. George, a vibrant, multicultural "up-and-coming" area across New York Bay from Lower Manhattan. If you enjoy urban settings where people of different skin colors and economic groups live close together, you will fit right in.
