This spacious apt is 80m2(850 sq ft) and is on the fourth floor (WITH LIFT) of a well kept building with wonderful views. The view in the living room is of the Wester Church, and the Keizersgracht Canal, and the bedroom looks out at trees and gardens. The large living room has two couches, and is very comfortable, and bright. There is also a new wood burning fireplace. The bedroom has a queen size bed, desk, flat screen TV, DVD player, laptop computer, printer/copier, large closet, and sofa that is comfortable enough to sleep on for a third person or a child. There is a large corridor that separates the two rooms. Both bedroom, and living room have doors so there is lots of privacy. There is a bathroom with bath/shower, and a separate toilet. We have a washing machine, and dryer. New wooden floors throughout the apt. The apt was totally renovated in 2006 when we bought it.
The neighborhood is wonderfully convenient. We are in the City Center (Jordaan) with three tram lines and three buses on our street. There are cafes and restaurants on the street, as well as a supermarket right next door. It is an easy trip to Central Station.(3 tram or bus stops) The neighborhood (The Jordaan) has many unique, boutique type shops as well as neighborhood stores. It is a very convenient area in the heart of the historic district. There is a bicycle rental rental shop on the block. We are two blocks from the Anne Frank House, the Dam, and it is a 15 or20 minute walk to the Museum area, and Vondel Park, or a ten minute tram ride,. The wonderful Noordemarket(organic foods on Sat., and antiques on Monday) is five blocks away.

My husband and I bought the apt in 2006 after going to Amsterdam for 10 or 12 years. We used to exchange apts (we live in NYC) with a good friend who lives in Amsterdam. After five or six years of loving the city we decided to buy something. We go to Amsterdam two or three times a year for about two months each visit, and rent it when we are not there. We have some very good friends who take care of the apt. They are wonderfully helpful to any renter, and lovely people. They will meet you with the keys when you arrive, and explain anything you need to know about the apt or the city. They live a few blocks away should there be any problems. They renovated the apartment when we bought it, and so they know it well.
joan fabricant purchased this apartment in 2006
I love the central location, and the convenience of being right in the middle, yet being in the historic district. My husband thought he might like a quieter street, but has come to love the convenient location where we can step out, get on a tram or bus, and go just about anywhere.
The apt is really very comfortable with many amenities. We even have a Nespresso Coffee Machine. Most of the dishes, linens, pots and pans are new,(they're replaced often) as well as most of the furniture. There is a nice selection of books, CDs, and DVDs.The apt. has Wi-Fi, and a new laptop computer and printer. The views are wonderful, and the apt is really nice. Please e-mail if you would like more information.
Just to say we bought, and completely renovated another apt. early in 2013. If this apt is rented, and you would like to look at pictures of our second apt, it is VRBO #465010. Thank you.
Could not have asked for a more stylish and convenient apartment to spend our Christmas and New Years at in Amsterdam. The property was perfect – it had absolutely everything we needed and was the perfect size for myself and my partner to spend two weeks at relaxing.
I fell in love with the location – right across the street from Anne Frank’s house and just over a 5 minute walk to Dam Square, not to mention well within walking distance to other attractions such as the Foam Museum, Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. There is a supermarket next door which is extremely convenient.
The building has a lift which was fantastic as the apartment is located on the 4th floor. We felt extremely safe as the building has a great security system in place. The apartment can be set at your preferred temperature which was fantastic for anyone who is travelling in the cooler months. The views from the lounge room were magnificent – from one side you look down onto Westermarkt where you can see the Westerkerk (church), the canals and surrounding houses which made it so beautiful to sit down in the evenings and spend time in the room.
Joan and Sylvia are such beautiful people – from the minute I enquired about the apartment Joan has always been so kind and professional and Sylvia who met us on our arrival was fantastic.
I could never stay anywhere else after experiencing Joan’s apartment. Certainly one of the best holidays that we have ever had and I look forward to staying there again in the future.
Arriving for my second stay I noticed an immediate difference. The street entrance was littered with debris, lights were out in the lobby and the elevator chugged and jerked along as it struggled to the top floor. The Maid had refused to ride it calling it “unsafe.” Entering the apartment found no “Welcome Gift” as on previous stay. The maid did not assist me with my baggage – I am an an 80-year old who uses a cane – and did not apologize for the dust on the tables, dirty windows, closet door split and hanging off its hinges, handles only half connected, bookcase in entry falling apart, half the bulbs in the hall fixture, reading lights, kitchen task lights, and medicine cabinet were not working or switches were broken. The intercom was broken. Maid said she was too busy to do anything about these problems. The heater was still broken and shuts off on its own on cold nights and no hot water either. Shades in the main room were damaged, or didn’t function or were missing. The shabby pieces of fabric nailed over the bedroom windows appear worn out and are dusty and smelly. The bed linens had not been changed from the previous renter and smelled of B.O. and urine. The maid said she had moved out unexpectedly without paying and there were other issues with that person, not a good excuse for the apartment to be turned over to me dirty. Oven was filthy as was the vent screen over the stovetop. There were empty liquor bottles left in the main room. Dirt marks and scuffs on the walls, cockroaches live in the closets, laundry closet in particular, mice run free in the apartment, silverfish live in the toilet room. Dishes are old and chipped.
Although I complained immediately to the owner, she denied any problem and suggested I move out . . . but no refund unless she re-rented . . . little chance of that happening.
Maid had a grudge as I had not given her a big tip. At checkout she accused me of breaking the washing machine handle; it always malfunctioned and you cannot try to open it until the full cycle has finished . . . the maid broke it after I left or she would not have returned my deposit. In conclusion the maid has the homeowners under her thumb.
Pretty to look at but a nightmare to live in with a difficult maid.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful Amsterdam apartment. The apartment was spotlessly clean, quiet, very bright and spacious and comfortably decorated. The kitchen is very well stocked and the owners have thought of everything to make their quests welcome. Having an elevator was a real plus as was the washer and dryer. There is a magnificent view out the front windows onto the monumental 17th century Westerkerk church and over the treetops and canals. The Jordaan neighborhood is charming and beautiful with many restaurants to choose from. There is a handy supermarket about 10 meters from the front door of the building. There are 3 tram lines that stop right in front of the building making it ideal for transport throughout Amsterdam. This is a fantastic apartment and I recommend it without reservations!
Had to write as I was just shocked to read the review from one negative person. My husband and I have stayed in this lovely apartment twice and one other time in Joan and Neil's other apartment. When we come to Holland we will not stay anywhere else but in either of their apartments. Always clean, well stocked and just plain comfortable. Have never been disappointed in this apartment.
Joan is always their for you with any questions you might have and always with a fast reply.
Sylvia and Veto also are the best. Sylvia goes out of her way to help with anything that might come up.
Don't let the one negative review keep you away from this apartment or the other one. Like I said we will not come to Amsterdam unless we can stay in this apartment or the other one. But we really prefer this one since it has the fireplace and we always come in the winter.
You will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!
When my husband and I were planning our recent trip to Amsterdam, we chose to stay in an apartment and what an apartment this was. Its location to sites, trams & buses as well as to the Hop on Hop off canal boats was perfect. Our 2 week stay was made even more enjoyable by the size of the apartment and amenities provided especially the computer & printer and the Nespresso coffee machine. Loved the elevator! The area of the Jordan was full of small restaurants, cafes, boutique shops and grocery stores. We had a fabulous Indian restaurant just a few doors down and an Albert Heijn even closer. One of the best places we found on our wanderings was Winkels, a small cafe, whose name to fame is their unbelievably delicious Dutch Apple Pie. As the apartment was located between two prominent canals, navigating around the city was quite easy. We were able to walk everywhere and we did. Thank you Joan for answering all of my e-mails quickly and Sylvia for your cheerful greeting when my phone wouldn't work upon arrival. You both made our stay in Amsterdam so memorable.
My wife and I took our first trip to Amsterdam and it was fantastic, made even better because we stayed here! My wife typically handles our vacation travel arrangements, but I decided to handle everything and live a local by booking an apartment instead of a hotel. My wife did insist that we rent from an owner and from someone who spoke English to minimize any miscommunications. I researched a few properties but chose this one due to the owner’s responsiveness. Joan was great; we had tons of questions, and she answered every email promptly. She was warm, professional and her answers were always thoughtful.
Upon arriving, Sylvia and Vito welcomed us, oriented us to the apartment and graciously shared insights on the neighborhood, transportation, and the sights. They were patient and generous with their time. Before leaving, they insisted that we should not hesitate to contact them if we had any questions or needed any further assistance.
The apartment exceeded our expectations. It was spotless, spacious and filled with many little touches that made it feel like home. The kitchen was well-designed and functional. After traveling over 11 hours, we were delighted to open the fridge and find a chilled bottle of wine. My wife was impressed. Usually, she drops her bag and heads to the bar to unwind. Instead, we kicked off our shoes and enjoyed a glass of wine while we relaxed on the couch. We took Sylvia and Vito’s suggestion and ordered take out from the Indian restaurant. It was just the first of many enjoyable evenings. The bedroom was great and comes outfitted with a television, computer, printer & Wi-Fi access. The bed was very comfortable and roomy. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank you for the instructions on how to use the Nespresso coffee machine and the coffee. Sipping coffee and watching the city come to life through large light filled windows was marvelous.
A stellar location and a lively neighborhood make this apartment a perfect choice. We walked out of the front door and were just steps away from the tram, grocery store, cafes, numerous restaurants and the Anne Frank house. We didn't miss a hotel concierge because there’s a tourism/travel office and bike rental shop right downstairs. We walked all over the city, hoping on the tram, bike or canal boat, to explore the neighborhoods and to enjoy the people, cuisine, museums; and a few "coffee" shops.
We began recommending this property before our trip was even over! Loved it!
