Overview

Kenai Peninsula House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This home is situated 34 feet from the bank of the world famous Kenai river. It is located 200 yards downstream from the confluence of the Kenai and the Funny river. It is situated in a prime fishing area on the Kenai river and it is yours to enjoy. River access is suitable for all ages and is very gradual Fishing for reds and silvers can normally be done immediately in front of the home with hip boots from the waters edge.

Kings can be fished by boat upstream and downstream from the home during the appropriate season. A huge cedar deck, with benches, chairs and a picnic table fronts the property and runs along the river. Enjoy the peace and quiet of residing at this home. Fish without the crowds so common elsewhere. Sit and watch the river, the wildlife, or others in your party fishing. Enjoy your own private fire pit, with wood furnished, in the evening while you relive the day's events.

The home is located in a small subdivision 11 miles from Soldotna. It has a quiet secluded atmosphere especially since the river bank of the Kenai river opposite the home is undeveloped. A golf course, open to the public, is less than 1 mile away.

If you just want to 'mellow out', enjoy the lower deck with the tranquility of the river flowing inches away, or if you are looking for a base of operations from which to explore the rest of Alaska, then this is the place. This home is centrally located on the Kenai Peninsula; 15 minutes from Soldotna, 30 minutes to Old Town Kenai, one hour to either Deep Creek/Ninilchik or the Russian River, and an easy two hour drive to either Homer or Seward.

About Tom & Lois Mushovic

My wife and I spent 20 years in the military with a three year assignment to Alaska from 79 to 82. We retired in 1985 when an opportunity arose to return to Alaska and pursue a position in Anchorage. We lived in Anchorage, with frequent trips to the Kenai Peninsula for another 24 years. Our three children attended high school in Anchorage and then colleges outside. They are now outside with their families but we are still here. During our years in Anchorage we were always going 'South' to the Kenai /Soldotna area for recreational purposes. We found this home in 1996 and have enjoyed it ever since. It is now available for you to enjoy!

Tom & Lois Mushovic purchased this house in 1996

Why Tom & Lois Mushovic chose Kenai Peninsula

We purchased this property with the intention of eventually using it as our retirement home. In 2007 we started building a log home on an adjoining lot. It was completed in 2009 and we moved To Soldotna, We are now offering the listed property as a vacation rental. We love the area, the closeness to the river and the frequent opportunities to observe the abundant wildlife. We love the opportunity to fish with family and friends without the crowds so common elsewhere. You will too!

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the seclusion and the many recreational opportunities in the immediate area. The fishing is great and the opportunities to observe the local wildlife are frequent. During the summer the gulls and eagles are ever present and we enjoy watching them scouring the river for a treat. Moose, bears, lynx, wolves and caribou also frequent the surrounding area.

Best people: Best place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our sixth year staying at this beautiful, riverfront home. It has always been spotless and new improvements have been added yearly. This year Tom put in new flooring, a new heating system and a tankless hot water system. Tom and Lois go well beyond expectations to provide a beautiful, clean home and a real sense of friendship. They will do almost anything to make your stay perfect. Just ask!!! I was kind of disappointed Tom didn't have the boat in the river this year because last year we caught two beautiful silvers just sitting in it. It was a wonderful fishing deck. We have stayed in many VRBO homes in many places that were great but nothing compares to the real Alaskan experience and friendship we have after six years. Tom and Lois are the best and so is this home.

Not as expected

  • 2 of 5

Our stay at the house was challenging at times. The beds did not have box springs and set on plywood in the guest rooms, which made for a very restless night, also the pillows have been reused numerous of times and needed to be replaced. The bedspread smelt like they have not been washed in months. I would not recommend this for a group of adults. The owner continually came over to spy on us and this made us feel very uncomfortable. The owner parked his boat in front of the deck limiting our fishing space. On a better note, the house was lovely and was well kept and maintained.

Owner's Response: Guest arrived without prior notification approximately two hours before 4PM check in. The cleaning team which began their task at 11AM still had work remaining to properly prepare the house. We opted to have the team complete their task prior to occupancy. The day was sunny and the guest settled onto the lower deck to await check in just prior to 4PM. During orientation owner told guest "if there was anything needed or if anything requires attention to please contact them. Additionally the one page welcome packet prominently displayed on the kitchen counter has in bold type and underlined " If there is anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable, or if you find you need something, please feel free to contact us next door." During their stay guest asked for three things. First tips on lures to target silvers. Advice and a couple of lures were provided. Secondly they requested a fillet knife. one was immediately provided. Finally they requested the use of coolers during their stay and two were provided. Had they mentioned any of the alleged deficiencies mentioned in their review they would have been immediately addressed. Fishing: Due to the fragile nature of the river bank all fishing is done from within the water. Entrance is thru a walkway. Our boat was tied in front of the lower deck. It does not impede fishing or entrance into the stream. It has been used as a fishing platform as well as a sturdy hand rail by almost all past guest when moving downstream to fish. Recognizing that several of the guest might have difficulty fishing from within the stream we gave guest our personal passes to a private lot where there is excellent fishing from the bank and established fishing platforms. We visited that that lot with two guest and explained the local and state rules for fishing their during their stay. Spying: The same shed where two guest received fishing tips also houses owners gear as well as gear used by guest in the past. It also houses a freezer where guest can freeze their catch. The freezer is checked for operation daily. The entrance to the shed faces the rental unit. If being sociable on trips to the shed or to the riverside cleaning table (shared by both properties), or to check or sump the boat is spying....then guilty! We truly regret that our guest experience was " Not as expected"

Fantastic Kenai River House

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the house was fantastic. The house is beautiful and right on the river. The owners live next door and were very gracious hosts making sure we had everything we needed and even helped us with fishing tips that resulted in a nice catch of salmon!

Our July home past two years!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about how much we loved staying here. The house is very comfortable and has everything we need. We usually have a couple friends come in during the month but plenty of room for family. We have enjoyed the familiarity of being with friends each year. Tom & Lois are readily available without intruding and always have information to offer on what's going on in the area. Whether that means it's BINGO night or that wildlife has been spotted in the area. Our family enjoyed the close proximity to the water and the convenience of not having to fight the crowds. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone that wanted a home away from home!
