Bear Creek Camp, with its creek, mountain and pasture views, provides a wonderful setting for you to enjoy your vacation in the North Georgia mountains. During the day you can picnic at our creek-side pavilion, fish for trout in the creek (just 15 feet from your door), and toss the football or kick the soccer ball in the flat two-acre field. At night, cozy up to a bonfire at the fire pit next to the pavilion and gaze at the stars (you can see the Milkyway!). And perhaps best all, you will not be charged an arm and a leg for all this fun.
This Camp (about 1,100 square feet) sits on three flat acres bordered by over 1,000 feet of clean rock bottomed/fast moving Skeenah Gap Creek. No slow brown/murky water runs here. Many of our guests say their kids have had the best time exploring the creek and all the wonders it has to offer, including the trolls that occasionally gather beneath the bridges at the front and back of the property [ ;oD ]. It is your private little slice of heaven for the duration of your stay.
House has three bedrooms - one bedroom with a king bed, one bedroom with a queen bed, and one bedroom with two bunk beds (meaning four twins), and one full bath with huge shower. All linens/towels provided. We are Smoke-Free so please no smoking in the house.
Fully-equipped kitchen, complete with: plates, dishes, silverware, glassware (including wine, margarita, martini, cocktail glasses), pots, pans, baking tins, muffin tins, cookie sheets, coffee maker (filters provided), blender, toaster oven, microwave, crock-pot, cutting boards, oven mitts/gloves, paper towels, kitchen towels, knife set, dishwasher (soap included), picnic baskets, cooler, and lemonade/ice tea containers.
Big, wood burning, brick fireplace and furnace will keep you warm on cold nights, and central AC system (w/easy control) will keep you cool during the hot days of summer. If it is not too warm, you might want to leave the windows open to allow the soothing sounds of the creek to lull you to sleep!
Main living room has 48" flat screen HD/smart TV, with satellite/DVR, dvd player and sound system. 27' TV with DVD/VCR in the bunkroom; smaller TV with DVD player in the king bedroom. 'Old-Time' record player with library of LPs at the ready for teaching kids how to place a needle and flip to the B-side. A radio/CD player with an audio jack is also available.
Internet? But of course. Wireless, you can even surf the web from the creek-side pavilion. Network name and password are posted at BCC. Disclaimer -- we do not guarantee service as we have no idea how to help you if your laptop fails to acquire the wireless signal. IT wizards we are not.
The camp is centrally located between Suches, Blue Ridge and Blairsville in the Chattahoochee National Forest. You will be within 5 miles of swinging on the bridge over Toccoa River, swimming, canoeing, or tubing on the Toccoa, hiking the Appalachian Trail, Benton McKaye Trail, Duncan Ridge Trail, and/or exploring the Trout Hatchery. Easy ride to either Lake Notteley or Lake Blue Ridge, bring your boat (plenty of easy no-turn parking available). Coming north from Dahlonega on Highway 60 you will have a 30 mile ride through National Forest to get here. Alternative less 'twisty' routes available from Blue Ridge and the Outlet mall on 400.
Easy access to Bear Creek Camp from paved roads -- no driving up and down twisty, winding, dusty gravel/dirt roads. 300 yard flat driveway through pasture puts you at BCC with ample room for parking (easy in, easy out).
A three acre cut yard is parallel to the creek, big enough for football, softball, wiffle ball and/or soccer games. Plenty of room to pitch a tent and sleep to the soothing sounds of Skeenah Gap Creek. Catching fireflies in the field at night provides some wonderful entertainment for the kids (friendly catch and release cages provided).
Big creek-side picnic pavilion (w/electric and lights) awaits you a mere 10 yards from the Camp. Weber charcoal grill provided, complete with BBQ tools and chimney starter (bring your own charcoal). 2 picnic tables (one large and one small) easily accommodate our guests as you dine by the creek. Fire pit next to pavilion and creek is perfect for bonfires and toasting marshmallows. Chairs provided.
Two love-seat swings with views of the creek, mountains and pastures invite you to relax and daydream. Most guests observe that their stay at Bear Creek Camp often involves day trips here and there, but they don't really need to leave BCC because it is as pretty as any place they could go.
Bear Creek Camp is the perfect place to hike, fish (catch and release please!), play in the fields, explore your own creek, read, write, sit by the fire, or go for a walk along a quiet gravel road. Please be sure to obey any posted No Trespassing signs as you explore.
Firewood - we do not supply firewood. Our neighbors will happily provide you with well seasoned firewood for a very reasonable price; their contact information is available at the Camp.
We try to go to Georgia every fall so we can see some fall since we don't get fall in Florida. This cabin and setting is wonderful! Enough beds for our entire family (two adults and four kids). The creek is really right next to the cabin. Sitting in the dining area with the windows open you can hear the beautiful sounds of the creek. The cabin is far enough out there to feel like you aren't on top of people, yet close enough to Blairsville to not feel like it will be an hour to get milk. The cabin is loaded with everything you want. Plenty of towels, pots and pans, dishes, glasses. Also there are board games and coloring books and markers for the kids. The neighbors are also very nice (we had a dog follow us home and we had to hunt down the owner - neighbors were very helpful in helping us find his owners.). We hope to go back for spring break! Thank you for the great fall weekend.
My family loved our getaway!! Peaceful and definitely time to regroup. We had NO cell service and could use the wifi if we wanted. We caught trout in the creek and went to see the beautiful Swinging Bridge it is a must!!! Loved being so far away from tourist traps and busy cities. About 30 minutes from a town with a very select stores but just what you need. Lots of beautiful nature to see. My kids 11, 12, 15 were so amazed at how much fun they had without cellphones. Thank you for offering this beautiful property. Back to the simple things is how I would sum it up.
The VRBO pictures don't show the comfort and feel of being so close to the creek. This is something you have to experience in person. The house was spotless and had everything we needed and more! It is close enough to town but far enough away that we were able to relax and enjoy. My husband loved grilling under the pavilion, our son enjoyed the creek, and I loved the swings. We even found daffodils blooming on Christmas Eve! We will definitely be back!
What an amazing house to rent, the pictures don't even do it justice. I can't even describe how incredible it was to come back every afternoon and cook outside and hear the creek running. The house is filled with any and everything you could need, the modem and satallite worked perfectly. It's far enough for close enough to everything. I'm not sure which of the three swings I enjoyed more! The huge yard was manicured and because of it's size you never heard a single vehicle go by. This is a top notch place!
My husband and I had been looking at this rental for over a year and finally decided it was time to stay. Last week of October - the turning leaves were perfect! The house has every comfort of home, plus the nice fireplace (stoked with wood supplied by the neighbors!) and the comfortable pavilion. The last day, when we had to leave, we woke up to falling snow! Everything worked great, and the house just gives you a relaxed 'at home' feeling. Our older dog, Savannah, enjoyed her stay with the flat front yard and plenty of room to roam. Hope to come back in warmer weather to enjoy wading in the creek (though I did get my feet wet - just had to do it) Beautiful views all around, and easy access from all directions. We'll be back!
My boyfriend and I got a long weekend off and decided to make a spur of the moment trip to Blue Ridge. We arrived to the cabin to find the place being just as perfect as the pictures show! The big yard and creek was perfect for our big bulldog who couldn't get enough of it! Everything you needed was right at the house, we grilled out every night and thanks to the creek and fire pit, we had very relaxing nights! The view across the creek was breathtaking, I sat in the swing facing it the majority of the time. Although it was rainy most of the weekend, we still managed to get a few hikes in which were not far from the house and very beautiful! We definitely would love to come back and stay at BCC!
