Overview

Opal Cliffs Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Furnished & fully equipped, one bedroom cottage, two blocks from prime surfing

Pleasure Point Cottage (clean, comfortable and close to the beach) is the perfect home base for exploring the California Coastal area from Carmel-by-the-Sea to San Francisco. Our delightful one bedroom, attached cottage is about two blocks from one of the best surfing spots on the west coast! The climate is mild; the scenery is spectacular; and, there is always something happening.

Pleasure Point Cottage has its own kitchen with all of the dishes, pots and pans you will need, as well as a coffee pot, microwave, full range, and a side by side refrigerator and a kitchen table with seating for three.

The living room has a white leather sectional sofa, plus desk with internet and cable TV.

The bathroom has a walk-in shower and fresh, clean towels and a hair dryer.

The bedroom has a queen size bed with a new Simons Beauty Rest mattress. The bed is ready with clean linens. Extra bedding is available to create a second sleeping area in the living room if needed.

The cottage even has a small private fenced yard and patio with a bistro set. All utilities, gardener, TV and Wi-Fi and off street parking are provided, as well as a storage area for surf boards and/or bikes. Well behaved dogs are welcome. He/she will appreciate the fenced yard and walks throughout the dog friendly neighborhood.

Santa Cruz has 29 miles of sand and surf and a very mild climate all year round. Driving south of Pleasure Point, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach . Driving North of Pleasure Point, check out the Santa Cruz Harbor; discover Light House Field State Beach (good surfing and great place to walk dogs).

Natural Bridges State Beach, known for its tide-pooling and famous natural rock bridge, feels secluded but is easily accessible from the road. This state park is a Monarch Butterfly sanctuary for as many as 100,000 butterflies that are drawn to the mild ocean air and eucalyptus grove in the winter months.

Further north are: Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, Bonny Dune Beach and the Red-White-Blue .

The county is also blessed with 14 state parks, including the popular Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, accessible by steam train from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. If you want more adventure: Hike, ride a bike or zip line or train through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains.

If you have a loved one that is college bound, be sure to check out the UCSC Campus.

There are plenty of places in Santa Cruz County to end the day with a glass of wine and a fresh plate of seafood. The pier at the Boardwalk is one favorite places to enjoy breakfast or toast the sunset. The Shadow Brook Restaurant in nearby Capitola would be a wonderful place for a special dining experience. Fragrant gardens and rustic creek-side location add much to the ambience, not to mention a quaint cable car that takes you down to the restaurant and lounge to enjoy live guitar music and happy hour.

About Lorraine Heng

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, being parents and grandparents, we have become 'snowbirds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation, and we take delight in creating an affordable vacation option for others.

Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Lorraine Heng chose Santa Cruz

We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air, the mild climate and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to either San Francisco peninsula or Carmel-by-the-Sea is easy from the Santa Cruz area.

What makes this cottage unique

Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary at sun set, while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The place is awesome! We love the closeness to the beach, and the quiet neighborhood. Our dog loved sitting outside on the grass, and the baby loved walks to the beach. We'll definitely return!

A solid three star VRBO

Generally as described: clean, well stocked kitchen and bathroom; one bedroom; living room wth TV, Cable, Internet, and a sectional sofa; and a small, neat sitting area in front of the cottage..Suitable for a couple. The sections of the sectional sofa in the living room are on coasters. A small child or adult contortionist could sleep on it comfortably. Beyond that there are pads for sleeping in the floor. Accessing the cottage was straight forward and the host responded very promptly to emails.

Perfect little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this great little cottage for my nieces wedding and it was just perfect. Two blocks from the beach for a nice walk and no crowds and all we needed with the nice little kitchen and front patio, one bedroom and a nice little living room. Great location and we look forward to a return visit:)

Cute

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our needs. We only wish that we could have stayed longer to explore the area. The beach is close and perfect for morning walks with our old dog. The younger dog loved the beach also. We were visiting family in the surrounding area and were not able to take full advantage of the location other than my morning run and then walks with the dogs. We would return!

Great location

  • 3 of 5

The location was great - within walking distance of the beach and very close to shops and the boardwalk! It was nice being able to bring our dog as well. Renting a house is the way to go.

Great place to stay near Pleasure Pt.

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay; you can walk to watch surfing, seagulls and if you are lucky -- migrating whales! You can grab a burrito at a nearby store and sit outside and watch the surf. The apartment is also an easy walk to a swimming beach! The owner is very responsible about answering e-mails and calls.

I love that it is dog friendly and the front yard is absolutely dog proof even for my escape-artist dog! As an older pooch, he loves soaking in the sun in the front yard! The apartment itself is clean and cheerful! Another plus: very reliable internet access so I can continue to teach online if needed. This is one of my favorite places to stay in Santa Cruz!

Driving south from Pleasure Point Cottage, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach (romance ).

Driving North look for the Santa Cruz Harbor (great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner and evening entertainment); discover Light House Field State Beach ( good surfing and great place to walk dogs), Natural Bridges (observe Monarch butterflies), Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, a (a good spot for wind-surfing) Bonny Dune Beach and Red-White-Blue (clothing is optional). Come and discover how many beaches you can find to leave your foot prints in the sand!

If you want more adventure: Hike, ride a zip line or train through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains. Visit the UCSC Campus, the Monterey Bay Aquarium or play a round of golf.
