Lovely Mauka Studio Cottage on 5 Acre Horse Property yet minutes to downtown Kailua-Kona and Beaches.
This slice of Hawaiian Heaven is located on the temperate side of Hualalai Mountain, home to the finest coffee in the world, Kona Coffee. The beautiful vistas from our property over look our pastures with grazing Calves and Horses, the neighboring Coffee Farms and on to the Beautiful Kona Coastline and Ocean Horizon views that will amaze you with incredible Sunsets. The three stall Cedar Barn is home to Gilda, our Friesian mare and her 1/2 Arabian Colt, Kuu Ipo. There is also one wonderful oversensitive loveable Dog, Sammy, an old Red Hen, Ruby and a White Homing Pigeon named Pearl. Of course we shouldn't leave out the flocks of Wild Turkeys and Doves, and the variety of wild Pheasant and Birds that insist on visiting every day.
The Cottage is located on the quiet side of the main house and pool with commanding Coastline and Ocean Views of its own. We are a non-smoking property. The cozy studio includes a small refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, dishes and utensils. There is also a flat screen TV with a built-in DVD player and WiFi.
We are located approximately 2.5 miles from the Wonderful Quaint Artist Community of Holualoa Town, an Historic small town overlooking Kailua-Kona. This charming old Hawaiian Town boasts several beautiful local Artist Galleries, an acclaimed Restaurant, a small General Store, a country Post Office, Library, School, Churches and lots of old style Coffee Shack buildings. Of course there is a great Coffee House with Fresh Baked Goodies to enjoy as you stroll the Galleries. Kailua-Kona, beaches, restaurants and shopping are just minutes down the mountain.
Our home sits approximately 2100 feet above downtown Kailua-Kona. A bit cooler than sea level the nights are perfect for sleeping and the days perfect for activities. Our day time temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees even in Summer.
Come experience a side of Hawaii that most people never get to see, yet so close to Kona, Shopping and all beach activities. Come enjoy our Country Hospitality smothered in Aloha but please understand this is a no tobacco smoking property. Mahalo!
Just another runaway babyboomer from the west coast, nestling in the big island style of life for the past 14 years . The aloha spirit is alive and abundant in our wonderful country home in Keopu Mauka. My second love (after my wonderful Wayne) are horses (2 on property) and my best example is my pride and joy, Gilda, a Friesian Mare and her Colt who is not so young anymore, born Sept. 13th 2011.
Sidnie purchased this cottage in 2004
Sidnie & Wayne were very welcoming. My husband told Sidnie that I was a horse girl so she kindly showed me all the wonderful tricks that her beautiful Friesian could do! The cottage was very clean and had an amazing view. It still felt very private even though it was fairly close to the main house. The cottage had everything we needed during our stay. We also really enjoyed listening to Wayne play his guitar for a little while 2 of the evenings. It was very relaxing and perfect to come back to in the evenings after our adventures during the day! We really enjoyed our stay!
Clean and comfortable cottage with a nice little lanai and wonderful views of the night sky with millions of stars. I definitely recommend the place if you want to get away from the big city life and are looking for some peace and quiet. Sidnie and Wayne are wonderful, friendly hosts, with a love for music and nature. My mom loved the cottage and called it her "princess room" :-)
We experienced a very enjoyable stay in the little cottage on Sidnie & Wayne's property. The cottage was just the right size and very clean. Because of the high elevation above the coast, the natural ventilation kept the cottage very comfortable for sleeping. The property is extra quiet, just far enough from busy Kona to feel remote and wild, but close enough to take advantage of all of the amenities. The horses and local turkey population were a nice bonus. Sidnie and Wayne are very friendly and responsive. Consider this property if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing stay in Kona!
My wife and I stayed at this cute little cottage 4 years ago when we were on our honeymoon, Sidnie and Wayne were fantastic. They were friendly and helpful. The accommodations were clean and the bed was super comfy. I find it funny reading another review who also had car troubles, I am quite handy and they lent me the tools to do the repairs myself. They had many suggestions for sights to see and places to dine. Never once did we feel like we didn't have privacy and always felt welcome. Wayne at one point was jamming away on his guitar, unaware that we were at the cabin as we spent most of the day out. Despite his apologies for what he called poor playing both my wife and I very much enjoyed the blues/jazz style he played. He is way too self-critical. I have and will continue to recommend these accommodations to any single/couple looking for a great price for what you get. The pictures that they have posted don't do the view we had every morning enough justice.
We enjoyed our stay in this cottage. Most mornings we sat on the porch listening to the birds while drinking our coffee. The bed was very comfortable. There was a kitchenette that was comprised of a mini-fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker. We even discovered how to make scrambled eggs in a microwave through an internet search. Sidnie and Wayne are very friendly and we enjoyed our many conversations as we were coming and going. They allowed us to borrow beach chairs and umbrellas (good for rain or as shade) that came in handy throughout our stay. They even said that we could use their barbecue and swim in their pool.
Sidnie and Wayne are the absolute best! The cottage is right next to the main house, but at no time did we ever feel like we had a lack of privacy. After a long day of exploring, sipping cocktails on the small patio is an amazing way to wind down while watching the sunset. The property is up in the mountains, so while it may not seem far from town on the map, you will be about a 15 minute drive down to Kona, however the drive around the winding roads is a pleasant and fun ride. They had some great recommendations when asked and were incredibly generous. We happened to be staying in the cottage during Sidnie's birthday party, and they invited us up to their soiree to join. We even had some car trouble and after asking if they knew a good mechanic, Wayne was under the front fender of our car doing some quick handiman repairs which was GREATLY appreciated. Absolutely no question a five star experience and will recommend this fun couple and cottage to anyone I know heading to Kona! Sam the dog is a sweetheart too!
