Rhubarb Hill is a woodsy retreat in beautiful Litchfield County. Relax in a charming farmhouse that is spacious and great for entertaining! The dining room, once a rustic keeping room, has a stone wall, fireplace, and stenciled hardwood floors. You will feel as if you stepped back in time. The living room is the perfect size for intimate conversations or larger gatherings. Wide hardwood floors predominate throughout this comfortable home. Cook up a great meal or snack in the well-equipped kitchen with a professional Garland gas stove, microwave, two dish washers and other culinary gadgets. There is a full basement with washer/dryer/ironing board.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and two baths. The master bath is spectacular with a Jacuzzi, European-style shower, twin sinks, and great views of mature hardwoods and old stone walls. Relax in a queen size four poster bed while looking out over the expansive yard. There is a huge walk-in closet with ample storage. The second bedroom has a shaker-like feel with its queen bed and two closets. The third bedroom is small with two twin beds, great for kids. The second upstairs bathroom has a vintage feel with full tub/shower and sink.

About Julie Swaner
I purchased this house is 2009 and have made a number of improvements, including a new roof, new heating system, new insulation, and upgrading of exterior doors. I did all of this while living in Utah with trips twice a year to CT. I recently retired and returned to CT for part of the year. I live in Raleigh the other part of the year. I love to garden and this area is wonderful for lush perennials and spectacular trees. It is great for bird watching, exploring wild flowers, and gathering mushrooms after a heavy downpour. I want to make sure you have a wonderful stay.

Why Julie Swaner chose New Preston
Litchfield county is the loveliest part of Connecticut with its broad fields, meadows, and rolling ridges. It has fine stone walls, perfectly-sized towns, and very interesting diverse locals which includes artists, romantics, professionals, and backwoods bubbas. This region has great restaurants, cute taverns, museums, art galleries, and the most amazing inviting winding roads. Yet, it is so close to New York or Boston.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Nearby, there is access to Lake Waramaug for swimming (CT's largest natural lake), the Appalachian Trail for hiking, the Berkshires and Tanglewood for cultural events and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Housatonic River for its fly-fishing, and extraordinary antiquing in Litchfield County. This house is nestled among mature trees and lovely grounds. There are plenty of restaurants from cheap to very expensive, there are local vineyards, farmers' markets, bakeries, art galleries, and wine stores. Step out the front door and explore a marvelous vacation opportunity. Or stay home and barbecue and then enjoy the evening patio for an outdoor firepit and 'smores.

Best Fall Getaway
It was the perfect fall retreat. Our host provided all the amenities we would ever require, plus many extras. Wine and and fresh bread greeted us.
The house fulfilled our expectations for a charming colonial experience.
Thanks so much Mary and Dennis for your glowing response.
Hugs and I miss you already!
Fall color Cozy comforts
Beautiful colors, relaxing environment. Check out the apple farm up the road. Hostess was gracious and generous with daily ideas during our stay.
Relaxing,comfortable weekend getaway!
We had a wonderful time. House was clean and cozy. Close to lake, shops and wineries. Would like to go back one day. The kitchen is perfect for anyone who likes to cook! It was nice to sit outside on the secluded patio to enjoy early morning coffee or a drink in the afternoon! We all truly enjoyed the house and the property. And especially the blueberry cake Julie baked special for our arrival!!
Very nice. Clean and comfortable.
No surprises. Great location.
Went through with our plan, despite the rain forecast, and we're all so very glad we did!!! We cooked awesome meals in the well-appointed kitchen, played twister, taboo, bananagram (other board games also available), walked to the Town's boutique shops and caught beautiful waterfall sight, 5-minute drive to Lake Waramaug State Park for nice trail hike in the woods and finished off with a truly remarkable dinning experience at White Horse Pub just 3 minutes down 202. Thanks for the wine and blueberry pound cake, Julie!!! The home was so much more than we could have ever hoped for - comfy bed, sitting everywhere, private nooks, gorgeous land/hardscapes throughout entire property, We truly enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to come back for a longer stay, rain or shine!!!
Luis and his family were delightful. Wish I could control the rain and the weather. Hope to have them return at a later date.
Delighful property and much to enjoy visiting in surrounding areas
Rhubarb Hill truly is a charming place to stay! I could feel the busy pressures of my typical day slow to a perfect pace in this beautifully decorated home away from home. We enjoyed relaxing in a variety of comfortable places inside and out. There were plenty of kitchen tools for yummy meals when we weren't feasting a local restaurants, also Wi-Fi hookups to stay in touch and be entertained, and an amazingly comfortable bed and pillow (not to minimize the treasure of fresh air blowing in from a cool May breeze).
There's nothing quite so delightful as a New England day trip on country roads showing us an amazing array of green foliage accented by red leaf maple trees and bright pink bundles of flowers. We stepped back to the 1800's at the Old Sturbridge Village with a horse-drawn wagon ride, and watched a tinsmith and potter show us their trade, as well as reminiscing while viewing a wonderful assortment of nostalgic artwork at the Norman Rockwell Museum. Thanks for "refilling my bucket" in this relaxing haven!
