Why Roberto Terrone chose Siena Area

Lovers of the countryside , my wife and I for many years were looking for a special place for a vacation home. In 1999 we had the good fortune to find and purchase La Casa del Poggio, this corner of paradise where we spend most of our spare time.

Hoping to retired there someday, now we enjoy sharing with our guests what we consider a marvelous treat. The beautiful Villa Arceno wine and olive oil Estate is the setting of our villa where we feel at home, in peace and relaxation but also surrounded by the amazing Tuscan environment with its immense history, culture and traditions.

Tuscany at its best

  • 5 of 5

Casa del Poggio is a truly beautiful and inspiring location, quiet perfect place for meditation. We were a group of 6 friends who enjoy jogging and biking through beautiful paths in the woods , hills covered by vineyards and olive groves. We spent a week at the villa, it was a dream vacation and exceeded our expectations. The villa is adorable, well decorated and kept in excellent condition. The garden and terrace very private in a relaxing and amazing setting where you can unwind and experience Tuscany at its best! Barbara and owners did everything possible to make our holiday memorable. The welcome basket of local and excellent wine and food were such a nice touch and much more than we expected to find.

We recommend to anyone who likes good quality accommodation in a tranquil environment surrounded by the amazing Tuscan cities and towns!

Owner's Response: Grazie mille Mary, Charles and friends, a lovely group of sportsmen who wanted to discover and enjoy the Chianti by bike. When a few months ago they contacted us and asked for our opinion on the feasibility of their program, we did not have the slightest doubt: The Chianti, home of the famous race Eroica, for them it would have been the perfect and delightful place to discover and enjoy! We hope they will come back very soon, Marina and Roberto

Our Magical Tuscan Experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our retirement by choosing a one month stay in Tuscany. By luck or fate, we chose Il Poggio. What a gem! The little villa was perfect for making all our dreams and wishes come true. The villa was plenty roomy enough to accommodate the two us us and our four guests comfortably. I was pleasantly surprised at how well stocked the kitchen was with quality cookware. Some of our most enjoyable activities was simply staying close to "home", cooking ourselves and drinking wine out on the patio. For my husbands 65th birthday we had a chef come to the villa and give us a cooking lesson. What a treat that was! We found everything we needed in Castelnuovo Berardenga. We especially enjoyed the Thursday open market for fresh fish, cheese and vegetables. Not to mention affordable trinkets to take home to family (scarves, leather goods etc).

As the many other reviews have outlined, we loved walking through the vineyards to lovely little San Guisme for coffee, lunch or dinner. We were lucky enough to be there at harvest time, so the gapes were ripe and sweet for picking, here and there, along the way.

Getting around to the many neighboring hill towns was fast and easy with no more than 45-90 minute drives. We also took advantage of the local area and enjoyed drives through the Chianti region. Be sure to visit the Arceno winery for tasting and shipping home.

The housekeeper came every week and took excellent care of the house, cleaning and restocking linens.

There are stairs in the villa. We are in our 60's and had no problem with them, but make sure that stairs aren't a problem for you if you book here. Barbara was a wonderful resource and we enjoyed having a glass of wine with her on our last night.

If you have a Tuscan dream, you can't go wrong with this wonderful little villa for six.

Thank you Marina and Roberto for sharing your lovely home with us.

A Hidden Gem in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for an amazing time in your fabulous Tuscan villa. We were two families with four girls (8 to 13) and we all fell in love with Il Poggio. What a find! This was a big reunion for us with our close friends from Vancouver, Canada, as we now live in England. Tuscany is beautiful, but the Arceno estate is spectacular. We made lots of use of the patio and pool, but also had some lovely wanders around the estate - seeing hares, pheasants, hoopoes and even (we think) a European wolf - the latter well away from the house! We had a jaunt to San Gusme through the vineyards for lunch on the last day, as well as a lovely dinner in Castelnuovo Berendenga one night. We also had day trips to Pisa, Siena, Florence and Monteriggioni. And did I mention the food? Fantastico!

Great place, great location

  • 5 of 5

The property was as described. It was was quaint and cozy where it needed to be in large in other areas to make the home a great place for s large group of people. Barbara was great and we all had fun with her and she did not complain when she had to come back to the house after we locked ourselves out! Robert followed up to be sure everything was ok when we got there so it was nice to know they cared. The local towns close to the home were a hit with everyone. We have a favorite local restaurant called Bengodi! Would come back to this location many times if I could.

Favourite Part of our Italy Adventures

  • 5 of 5

Casa il Poggio was everything it was listed to be and more. The hospitality provided by Marina and Roberto before we left Canada and from Barbara upon arrival was fabulous. The location of this beautiful property was ideal, close to two towns (San Gusme & Castelnuevo Berandenga), and easy driving distance to many of the wonderful Tuscan cities. You can walk from the villa to San Gusme or just tour around the property of Villa Arceno - it is breathtaking. Upon arrival Barbara greeted us, the home is immaculate with everything you need....and the welcome basket with wonderful food - fresh fruits, meats, cheeses...house wine - Amazing. We were three couples celebrating our 40th birthdays and could not have asked for a better location, Roberto provided a recommendation for a chef to come to the villa and cook dinner for us. Chef Emily was wonderful, picking fresh rosemary from the gardens to prepare our celebration dinner on the beautiful patio. The pool was lovely at the end of a long day of touring. We already are planning to go back with family in 2018... Thank you Roberta, Marina & Barbara - looking forward to the day when our paths cross again.
