Cottage at the Cove is a lovely recently refurbished 1884 vintage Victorian located just steps from Lover's Point park and beach in the Retreat District. The oceanfront recreation trail leads you to the Point Pinos Lighthouse to the west and the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row to the east. The wonderful Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course is just around the corner. A 3 block walk to town will find you in the midst of Pacific Grove friendliness: shops for any and all necessities/frivolities, antiques and curios, grocery store, pharmacy, banks, bookstore, delightful restaurants and bakeries, library, museum, art galleries, historical gardens, various parks, and the four screen movie theater. Pacific Grove is a town without stoplights, still! Park your car at the cottage and enjoy Pacific Grove by foot.
Cottage at the Cove's broad sunny front porch with wicker furniture is the perfect spot to begin the day with coffee or tea. The charming rear garden is intimate and lovely.

Stepping into your blue and white heritage cottage sent me into my grandmother’s world. Her similarly appointed Seattle home had a kitchen and back porch much like yours, and she grew geraniums, hydrangea, and morning glory in her back yard. Remembering the cool overcast days of Seattle and trips to Puget Sound beaches added to the feeling I was in grandma’s world. When my husband joined me three days later, he marveled at the warmth the cottage provides with its endless collectibles and artifacts. We both appreciated the two signed serigraphs in the kitchen, “Red Ripe” and “Back Porch.”
We’ve been to Pacific Grove for a weekend every year, but this was the first stay in a real home. Thank you so much for sharing your beach home with us.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cottage at the Cove. Location was perfect, a "stone's throw" to "Lover's Point" and the beautiful walk along the bay. Short walk to the little downtown area, home of some delicious restaurants (Passionfish, Fandango's, Red House Cafe). The cottage was very inviting, quiet. Loved the kitchen - bright and cheerful, the fireplace so cozy in the evening, and oh such a comfortable bed! The place was immaculate, and Barbara's attention to detail made this a truly memorable respite. Barbara responded immediately or our needs and questions. We highly recommend and would definitely love to return to this perfect gem. - For those who have not been, Point Lobos just south of Carmel is magnificent in it's beauty.
Wonderful accommodations. We walked to restaurants and the aquarium. Great night's sleep at the cottage.
We loved our stay at the Cottage on the Cove! The cottage was everything and more that we had hoped. It was incredibly clean and perfectly maintained. Everything to make our stay comfortable was provided. Barbara is exceptionally thoughtful and has shared good taste with those looking for the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful Monterey Bay. We enjoyed the passes to the acquarium provided by Barbara. Great place to visit on a rainy day. We tried several recommended local restaurants and enjoyed each of them. We loved the local farmer's markets, too. We visited Point Lobos, Santa Cruz and the redwoods. We never tired of walking along the Bay and seeing the always interesting and beautiful scenery! We truly appreciated Barbara's hospitality and would definitely recommend the cottage. We have come to love Pacific Grove and hope to return next year for an extended vacation.
The Cottage at the Cove was everything we could have hoped for!!
Communication with the owner was very easy. She's very responsive and easy to work with.
The location is unbeatable. You can walk to downtown or the beach in 5 minutes. Comfortable bed. Plenty of space in the home and a nicely equipped kitchen. Clean throughout! The fireplace adds warmth. There are some great DVDs and VHSs available too. Wish we had a longer trip, we did not want to leave... It's a very relaxing place to come home to.
Don't miss your opportunity to book this place!!
The “Cottage at the Cove” has become our favorite get-away place. We’ve stayed in many such rentals, but never one as clean and nice as this one. It is close to the beach and close to the downtown stores; both are in short walking distance.
The Beach House restaurant, with ocean views, opens for dining at 4:00 PM and their early menu is very reasonable priced with some great entrees. It is just a very short walk from “Cottage at the Cove.” There are also a number of fine restaurants and cafes (as wells as many shops and stores) if you walk in the other direction toward the center of town.
This cottage is very well-maintained; always clean, neat, well-decorated and amply supplied with everything. The owner, Barbara, goes out of her way to make sure that her guests are not lacking in anything. Barbara takes great pride in this rental and has a strong commitment to her client’s comfort and happiness. The neighborhood is very quiet and the people are quite friendly.
Barbara provides aquarium tickets which are definitely worth using. Also, the whale watching tours are often spectacular. There is a lot to do in the Monterey Pacific Grove area and even if you don’t want a lot of activity, just looking at the ocean and all the beautiful scenery is very engaging.
The cottage itself is very comfortable to relax in and there are many good books to look at and a good variety of DVD’s available as well as cable TV. The bathroom is a little on the small side, but has a combination shower-tub which is nice. The kitchen has everything a person might need; far more than most rentals like this.
We have decided to make this cottage our regular home away from home when we go to the Monterey Pacific Grove area. In our opinion, the “Cottage at the Cove” is in a class by itself when it comes to vacation rentals.
What a wonderful find!
As context, I travel to Pacific Grove at least once per year to visit family, and I have rented VRBO lodgings from California to Rome. This one is the best. Why?
1.) Your host, Carol. So thoughtful and communicative--she is the best!
2.) The space itself. The property is immaculate and perfectly appointed. Everything you need is there, and the decor might make you smile--e.g., check out the blue bottles over the bathroom mirror, how they descend in size to accommodate the sloping ceiling. :-) Immaculate bears repeating: I felt as if I were the property's first renter.
3.) The location. As you can see on the map, it's close to everything. Because I was visiting family within walking distance, I canceled my rental car--and I never missed it. Even if you decide to rent a car, if you're also a fit walker, there will probably be days you never crank it. Where else would you rather be?
Highest, grateful recommendation!
