Cute one bedroom condo. Only a 10 minute walk along historic Orange Street from Main Street but feels like it is out of town. The condo is surrounded on two sides by a protected salt marsh full of ducks, red-winged blackbirds and many other birds. The back balcony offers an amazing view over The Creeks of Nantucket Harbor. Attractive yard has off-street parking for two cars. The near-by convenience store carries the NY Times and the liquor store is only two blocks away. The condo is newly renovated with granite counters, stainless steel appliances, washer/dryer, air conditioning, cable TV and high-speed internet. Popular Children's Beach and Jetties Beach are an easy bike ride away.

This condo is on floor 2 of 2. The address is 110 Orange St.

Another Great Stay at Poverty Pocket!

  • 4 of 5

We booked this last minute and Geoff was very accommodating. This is our third time staying at Poverty Pocket, we like to stay every year for our anniversary. We love the location and it is very cozy, even in winter time. It was record cold outside (5 degrees), but we were warm and comfortable inside. The water views are amazing, the new walking trail right outside your front door along the water front is great, and we are only a 5 minute walk to town. Would recommend staying here for everyone, being able to bring our two puppies is just a bonus!

I liked so many things about this rental. The location is a short walk from downtown, and yet there is off-street parking should you choose to bring a car, as we did. The accommodations are small but not cramped, supplying everything you might require for a convenient and quietly luxurious vacation, including wifi, fancy appliances, a good array of pots and pans and an assortment of ways to make coffee. There is a small but choice selection of books. Also, implements for eating lobster -- a nice touch! (at Sayles seafood, a short walk away, they will cook them for you at a reasonable price for takeout.) I also greatly appreciated the pet-friendly policy that allowed our dog to participate in this amazing vacation. The deck, with its view of sky and rushes, is a wonderful asset.

Two things to consider: We were there at the end of October, and there was no sign of the residents of the lower portion of the house. It might be a different experience staying if you had a noisy neighbor, or felt you were in someone's way, but this did not befall us, so I cannot comment on it. Additionally, as some other reviewers have noted, Orange Street is busy. This is the stretch just after it turns two-way, and it is an artery between downtown and the ferry, and more outlying parts of the island. So even in sleepy late autumn, with a sense of almost no one on the island, there was traffic. I can imagine it would be even more so at other times of the year. The street is also narrow and winding, with the sidewalk is on the other side, so every walk, however short, like the one down to the water and to Sayle's, starts with a nervous look both ways and a quick dash across the street. To be clear -- this did not ruin my stay, or anything like it. This combination of civilization and nature is a microcosm of the peculiar charm of Nantucket, in fact. But it's worth being aware of. I unhesitatingly recommend this property.

Orange B in Nantucket was perfect for us. It is a short walk from town and the ferry which we liked. It has a peaceful view over the marsh, although I was surprised at the traffic passing by on Orange Street. We brought our bikes and walked them from the ferry which was about .07 mile. We walked into town for dinner and rode our bikes each day to explore. There is a Cumberland store right across the street which made getting supplies easy. Thank you Geoff!

amazing, perfectly quaint

Geoff is amazing! Extremely accommodating since we missed a day due to the hurricane. The cottage is cute and picturesque and the perfect distance to town. We walked everywhere and can’t make this a yearly trip to the same cottage. THANKS GEOFF!!

Good price by comparison. Nice place, some minor issues and potential for improvement

  • 3 of 5

September 2017: Overall very clean and in a relatively good location. This could be such a little gem if a few issues were addressed.

New A/C units have been installed which was a welcome amenity but they have mold in them already. After a couple nights I now have coughing/runny nose. The shower handle didn't work the first day but luckily it was an easy fix (if you're handy, tighten the handle's screw). The sheets, pillows and mattress could use replacement as they are well worn (sheets have holes and pillows are flat)

It would be great if there were a couple bikes available as part of the rent due to the location away from town. It would be easier to get around if you don't want to rent a car or bring yours to the island. Otherwise you could rent bikes for the day of course or rely on Uber, although they aren't always available.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, the renters didn't contact me during their stay and I only learned of their issues from this review. I want my renters to be completely satisfied, so I have given them a full refund. The unit is cleaned before every rental, and the A/C units are inspected regularly. New linens are purchased for the unit each season. Minor issues such as the shower can be quickly addressed by phoning my on-island caretaker. Geoff
