The perfect year round get-a-way. Sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake any time of the year. You will feel miles way from it all even though you are just outside of Portland Maine. Our year round camp is located on Highland Lake It is the quintessential location to enjoy all the things Maine can offer. We are just a short drive to the beautiful Maine beaches and our local ski resort. Shawnee Peak We are an hour to the White Moutains and forty minutes to Freeport. Sit out by the fire pit and listen to the loons as you watch the moon rise, or take out one of our kayaks and float in peace. Our camp offer a paddle boat, four kayaks, and a canoe. (Lifejackets included) A 50 feet dock to fish off of. There is a trampoline raft in the water and several floats for all to enjoy. We have croquet set, a bocce ball set and a small volleyball/badminton set that can be set up in the back yard In the winter you can go x country skiing, ice fishing or snowmobiling right out the front door. The owners live next door so if you forgot anything,or need help finding your way around, just ask and we will help you out.

Have fun sitting around the fire pit, but please remember that our camp is surrounded by year round residents and work during the week, so we ask that you honor a 11:00p.m. quiet hour.

Milfoil Protection: We ask that you check any fishing gear and your boat for milfoil. Our lake is one of a few left in Maine that is free of milfoil.

About Donna Pennoyer

We moved here from Portland when the kids were little and plan on staying here to watch our grandchildren enjoy our lake My children grew up making fairy houses in the woods and catching salamander and learning to waterski in their front yard. My husband favorite quote is 'We live here!'

Donna Pennoyer purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Donna Pennoyer chose Sebago Lakes Region

We fell in love with this view the minute we saw it. With in a few months of us buying our house, the camp next door became available so we bought it and became the proud owner of two properties on Highland Lake. We are close enough to enjoy Portland and all it offers and still be able to relax at the end of the day and feel like we are miles away from work.

What makes this cottage unique

Nothing is better than sitting by the fire and watching the moon rise over the tree.

Perfect place for a group of 4-6

  • 5 of 5

Our family needed a place to stay for a week, traveling from CA and TN. We didn't want to live in a hotel for a week, so we found this place. It turned out to be way better than we even expected.

The beds were surprisingly comfortable for a rental place - something that you don't often find, and something that can be very important. Kitchen was pretty well stocked with cookware for our family to "dine in" during our stay. Good size seating area and table.

There's also an outside table that overlooks the water, which was beautiful to eat at early in the morning while the sun was rising. Near the table is a fire pit with a healthy supply of outdoor chairs. We had a great evening for hours around the campfire right on the water. There are also some trees in the same "back yard" area that are perfect for hammocking just a few feet from the water. There are kayaks, oars, and life jackets just 30 feet from the water, and a good size lake with very calm water and minimal traffic where you can go explore.

I'm rating the property 5 stars, and we'll likely stay here again, but it wouldn't be a thorough review without mentioning a couple of minor faults. The only real problem that we had was with parking. There's only parking for 2 vehicles, and probably only 1 if you have an oversize SUV. It was a tight fit with a van and a small hatchback. Fortunately the road is very, very low traffic, so if you maneuver VERY carefully, you can maybe squeeze in a 3rd small car if you're willing to block in the other two vehicles, and risk your car sticking about a foot or so out into the low traffic road. A little more space would have been nice, but we made due. Certainly not a major problem, and nothing that would prevent us from staying here again. This is no fault of the owners - there's not really anything that could be done to expand without major work.

A couple other VERY small things: the stairs to the basement are somewhat challenging to navigate, and the air hockey table in the basement is only about half functional. The stairs are very steep and narrow with a head-bashing hazard if you're over 5'8". If you have any limited-mobility people staying at the cabin, I would suggest sleeping on the main level rather than the basement. The air hockey table has minimal air, and the puck often just gets stuck in a number of places. As long as you're not expecting to have a high stakes tournament on the table, it can still be fun. Foosball is in good shape.

We had a wonderful stay at this lake house. Donna was very welcoming and friendly. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed using the kayaks! We enjoyed traveling to beaches which were nearby. I would recommend this property to anyone, even those with children! Very child friendly! Thanks for a wonderful stay and we may just see you again!

Amazing view, comfy home, minutes from the city!

  • 5 of 5

Nothing could have made my vacation better than staying at this cottage. The view of the lake in the backyard was breathtaking. The house was so spacious, numerous bedrooms, comfy beds, gas fireplace & the outdoor fire pit made the trip!

You couldn't ask for a better place to stay. It was only minutes from the city of Portland!

Donna was an amazing host; she was there to answer any questions/concerns we had staying at the cottage.

I can't wait to stay here again. It was definitely the best place to stay in that area of Maine!

Best engagement weekend ever!

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with a romantic lakefront proposal. Donna was extremely receptive when I told her my plan and I booked a 2 night stay with the play to travel up Friday afternoon to set up for the night's events.

When I arrived during the day, I was amazed at how nice the property and view were considering how affordable it was. The property is very large and the house is much larger than it appears in the photos. The basement even has foosball and air hockey, and is a great space for any kids (or myself) to hang out. The house is literally right on the lake with a fire pit, a large patio table, and chairs. The house has pretty much any lake house toy (including kayaks and canoes). The kitchen was also stocked with amenities and we did not need anything but our food and drinks.

As for the owners, they truly went above and beyond. Without my knowledge, they decorated the entire yard for my proposal with candles, tiki torches, and even lit the fire pit! It looked like a scene from a bad romantic comedy (but in a great way). Donna and I communicated regularly leading up to the day and she was amazingly thorough and accommodating.

I cannot recommend this place enough, whether it is for a family vacation or a romantic getaway. I can't imagine a better experience for even double the price! I look forward to coming back, hopefully for more than two nights next time!
