Relax in this serene 5+ acre setting while Elk, Deer, and Moose wander through the Ponderosa Pines. Enjoy the stunning drive following the winding West Fork river, coming upon the breathtaking Painted Rocks Lake, and a little further to mile marker 26. 7 miles further along the road is the Idaho boarder. The drive alone is breathtaking.
March through November you'll see fly fishermen along the West Fork River and the many creeks that flow that flow into the river trying to coax five different species of trout
Summer nights are frequently in the mid 40's with days in the dry 70's at this elevation of 4,800. The road is well kept in winter, allowing easy driving access to Lost Trail Ski Resort on the MT/ID border where you'll discover great skiing and snowboarding. It's locally owned, so come prepared with equipment or stop in Hamilton and get stocked up at Bob Ward's Outdoor store that carries everything for the year round avid outdoors sports person.
Our favorite activities are fly fishing the West Fork River and Overwich Creek, hiking, and riding ATV's. There is nearly 3,000 miles of Forest Service trails plus the 101mi Magruder Road Corridor which separates the 1.1mm acre Bitterroot-Selway Wilderness from the 2.3mm acre Frank Church River - River of No Return Wilderness.
Or, simply enjoy the front porch swing and read a good book. Afternoon naps are wonderful, especially with the refreshing mountain air, snuggled under a wonderful down comforter. There's also plenty of sightseeing to do from Glacier National Park to historic battle sights, and Hamilton's famous Farmers Market on Saturday mornings.

I have been exploring Montana, Colorado and Idaho since 1966. When we found the Bitterroot Valley, we fell in love with the land and the people of Ravalli County. Home is Florida for us, but our hearts are in the Bitterroot Valley.
Gary Plum purchased this cabin in 2010
The West Fork area is full of treasures just waiting to be discovered. There are over 3,000 miles of trails to ride, and we haven't even discovered the winter activities yet! All the locals tell us how great the local ski slopes at Lost Trail are for snowboarding and downhill skiing. Plus, there are thousands of miles to ride snowmobiles that await our exploration this winter.
I love exploring the high mountain lakes, trails, and creeks that surround the West Fork area. Sleeping is so refreshing with the fresh mountain air under the down comforters and memory foam topped beds, so I love taking naps at 4,800 altitude.
Gary- we had a great time at the cabin on W Fork Rd. Especially enjoyed the Salmon fly hatch! We caught some very large fish , both above and below the dam. We were surprised at the size of the fish above the dam, Cutthroats to 17 in or more. Salmon flies really brought up some nice fish. We even had a case of a fish lost by Steve, his Salmon fly in the fishes mouth and me catching the same fish downstream on another Salmon fly pattern.
Fishing was a bit tough on the main stem due to higher water this year. We also fished the Big Hole, East Fork, Blodgett and Blue Joint. The West Fork was overall the best fishing we've seen in years.
The cabin /bunk were great- tankless hot water a plus. Hot tub was not used as we kept late hours for dinner, etc. Blodgett was most stunning but not a good choice in 95 degree sun!
I made a new batch nectar for the Hummers and the Jays fed on unused bread products. What a beautiful view out the front window too!
I have a couple questions- the Beano Ranch may be suitable to bring my wife as she loves horses but I couldn't find any web info. Thanks for getting us ranch access for fishing- we fished there the first night and the fish cooperated nicely.
The mattresses were comfortable as were the pillows.
Overall it was quite an enjoyable stay and the cabin/bunk were just great and quite well equipped. We look forward to returning again to Montana.
Property and house beautiful. Elk and deer grazing in yard amazing. Loved having a fire daily. skiing , fishing, and just plain relaxing I would definitely stay here again
We were so happy with our stay. The house is pefect. All the right amenities to make our stay comfortable. The area is beautiful. We will return. A great place and great value.
What an outstanding home. Wonderfully furnished, comfortable, great hot tub, a very complete and well equipped kitchen and perfect for a get away into the Bitterroot Valley. This is our second time renting this property and it exceeds all our expectations. Everything necessary for a comfortable and relaxing week is on-site. Deer and Elk visit the yard and the scenery from the property is fantastic. We will be back.
THE CABIN WAS EXCELLANT, ENJOYED THE FLY FISHING, SEEING THE ELK FEEDING IN FRONT YARD WAS A HIGH HIGH. DID A DAY TRIP TO WEST GLACIER PARK, THAT WAS GREAT. I WOULD DO THIS AGAIN FOR SURE.
We had a wonderful getaway at your West Fork cabin. Living in Missoula, I think we sometimes take the mountains for granted, but being in such a peaceful and relaxing setting made for an outstanding vacation. It’s a beautiful cabin in a beautiful area. We look forward to returning next year.
Just returned from a week at this great property. We used the main cabin and my parents used the guest cabin. They both exceeded our expectations. Everything you could need for a relaxing stay. After long days of fishing and hiking we relaxed in the hot tub. The kitchen is fully stocked and ready for use but we also enjoyed grilling and cooking over the fire pit. The location is great, we found 3 hikes close by and although the creeks were running pretty swift this time of year we fished at both Lake Como and Painted Rocks Lake. We saw lots of wildlife and since we are from Florida were amazed at the beauty of this location. We are already planning a trip for next year. The beds were comfortable, the cabins were spotless and there is a great view from every window. We flew into Missoula and the drive down was beautiful and the property was easy to find. Would highly recommend.
Amazing fly fishing on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River; great cut throat, rainbows, cut bows and brown trout all around in the creeks and rivers. Guide trips available from numerous professionals. Gym, gas, hunting supplies in Darby; grocery stores, salon/tanning beds, shopping, golf in Hamilton. Swimming and water activities in Painted Rocks Lake near cabin and Lake Como in Hamilton.
