About Hillary Timmons

This home has been in our family since the 1970's but it was constructed in the 20's. We completely renovated it in 2001 but have never rented it out. Unfortunately, our family has become smaller, the children have grown and we now have very little time to enjoy it. We hope other folks will love it as we do and make fond vacation memories. Mott's Mountain Laurel is dedicated in memory of the most wonderful wife, mother and Meme.

Hillary Timmons purchased this house in 1999

Why Hillary Timmons chose Gerton

Our family considered many different properties in many different mountain locations before buying a vacation get-away but found this Bearwallow Mountain home to have the MOST stunning views! Conveniently located between Asheville and Hendersonville, our home is also just a short drive from shopping, entertainment and many natural wonders. We can't wait for you to enjoy the quaint shops of Chimney Rock, Bat Cave and the beach and restaurants of Lake Lure!!

What makes this house unique

Swimming (Sliding Rock and Lake Lure), skiing, hiking, climbing, bird and animal watching, exploring, cable car sight-seeing, and antiquing are only a few activities which can be enjoyed while vacationing at our mountain home.

The Mountain House is a slice of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Mountain Laurel is the most serene and scenic place we have ever experienced in our life. The amenities were beyond compare. The house and yard were both extremely cared for. We can't wait to go again. We loved the view, the sound of the mountain stream and really enjoyed the fire place too. The kitchen was well stocked. There are many places and things to do in the area. We even zip lined as well. The Blue Ridge Parkway drive is a beautiful experience as well as Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Thank you so much for our experience.

Evacuating Hurricane Irma- the owners were very quick to respond! Great Cabin with a beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

We had to evacuate Hurricane Irma and the owners were very accommodating with this last minute found gem. Quick communication (even though it turns out they also had to evacuate at the last minute.) The owner had many suggestions for nearby things to do, where we could find groceries, etc. Our family had a blast making a mini-vacation out of the evacuation while the weather cooperated: checking out the brook that runs alongside the cabin, apple picking and corn maze in a nearby town, hiking, etc. Well stocked cabin allowed for home cooking, football watching and game nights. There was even a little cupboard of pet things for anything we might have forgotten for our fur baby. When the storm made its way to the mountains and downed trees caused the power to go out (and therefore the well water) the cabin's caretaker was kind enough to bring fire logs, water, flashlights, and glow sticks for our children to get us through the night in the dark and she and her husband even cleared the large fallen tree branches in the road leading to the cabin early in the morning so that we could get out. She even told us the easiest way to get off the mountain because our original way in was blocked due to downed trees. Just be prepared for the mountain roads. The cabin itself is on a road that is unpaved and in the dark the first night it was a little unnerving. But once we found the place, this was no longer a problem.

We felt very at home and had a great couple of days! We were able to take what could have been a weekend full of scary situations and bad memories for our children and turn it into good, family time where memories were made that will last a lifetime. I'm eternally thankful!

Comfortable, Cozy Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Perfect floor plan to accommodate several family members at one time w/o being "on top" of each other. Very comfortable & cozy. Would book again.

Sisters Birthday Getaway

  • 3 of 5

We recently rented this cabin to celebrate a 50th Birthday. We had a wonderful trip and experienced a part of the country we had never had the pleasure of visiting. Our week provided wonderful weather and spectacular leaf viewing.

Here is our review of the property and reasons it didn't receive the top rating.

PROS:

-The owners were great to work with, they answered all questions, provided information about area attractions, and were very helpful in extending our checkout time to accommodate a variety of flight times. You could tell they take pride in their property.

-The cabin was the perfect size for 5 people. It had plenty of sleeping space & living space. The kitchen and eating areas provided plenty of room to be together and not be right on top of each other.

-True to the online pictures you are getting comfortable cabin living with nice porch rockers.

-The location of the cabin will definitely give you a true in the mountains experience.

CONS:

-The cabin had a very bad and over powering smell every time you entered. Not really sure anything short of washing everything and cleaning carpets would get rid of the smell. Blankets in the basket by the fireplace were so bad they were pretty much unusable. We did open windows and doors to try to remove some of the smell but it was October and we couldn't leave them open for extended periods of time. It was bad enough by the time we left the clothing in suitcases had to be washed when returning home even those unworn. This may not be an issue during other times of the year when things can be opened but right now it was a big issue. Allergy sufferers may have problems staying here.

-A very short supply of paper products, had to buy one extra roll of toilet paper to get through the last day of our stay.

-A lot of trees and a fairly steep hillside have to be navigated to get to the steam, we found no path or access.

-The cabin description list mountain views - there is a very nice mountain view but you must first look through the power lines in front of the porch. This is why there is a very strategically taken picture of the porch but not a picture of the view.

-The last part of the driveway is a little tricky so arriving in daylight the first time is a very good idea.

Overall we had a very nice time and enjoyed our time here and maybe during a different time of year would stay here again. These are a few things we thought needed to be addressed. A 3.5 rating isn't available.

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much for alerting us to the problem. Anything under a 5-Star review is unacceptable to us therefore we took our home off the rental market while we hired AirServ of WNC to completely install (including all new duct work) a state of the art air conditioning unit and an additional large dehumidifier. We are thrilled with the results and are confident our guests will be as well. We hope you scheduled a trip back to see us at no charge. Every guest is like family and we would love for you to see that you made a positive difference!

Just wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The home was everything we could have hoped for and more. Everyone in our party, including our two elderly family members, were so thrilled with the home and it's amenities that we are already planning on coming back for a longer stay, We were so impressed with the amount of entertainment the cabin offered, from the very large selection of board games to the Xbox, and the thoughtful touches and welcome basket they included. They even have a cabinet dedicated for your dog! The decor is homey and comfortable without being kitschy, and you truly feel like you're at home. If you choose this home, you won't regret it. The house is on the mountain, so don't be suprised when you see the driveway, but have no fear-you will have no problems getting up the driveway. We made it up no problem with our minivan packed full of people and suitcases. You will not be sorry if you choose this amazing home! Thank you to the Timmons for opening up their awesome home!
