About Kathy McCasky

Well fell in love with the Arkansas Valley many, many years ago when a day hike on majestic Mt. Princeton turned into an overnight adventure. We found our 'Little Slice of Heaven' while camping and tooling around on the fire roads in the National Forest right behind our property. Our best memories have been hiking, ATV'ing, skiing and snow shoeing and exploring this miraculous, unspoiled area. We treat our guests as family that we actually like to come visit 😊, and have so enjoyed hearing about the wonderful memories and experiences that take place at 'The Little Slice.'

Kathy McCasky purchased this house in 2007

Why Kathy McCasky chose Nathrop

Nathrop is located just 13 miles from Buena Vista, which means 'Beautiful Views.' (We don't know what Nathrop means!) 13 miles south and you step back into time in old town Salida. The sense of community and eclectic shops and great dining experiences are so relaxing. Plenty of convenience and no big-box malls suits us just fine! There's a Walmart and plenty of fast food on the outskirts of town...)

What makes this house unique

A full day of outdoor activities,)followed by a soak at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs brings us sheer joy. Relaxing on the observation deck at night with a glass of wine really puts things in perspective for us. Morning coffee on the deck or by the windows is the best way to start the day.

PERFECT GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5

The "Little Slice of Heaven" was just that. It is a wonderfully secluded location (but still has easy access to all that you would want to see and do) with stunning views and sunsets!! We enjoyed many local activities but we also enjoyed just grilling on the deck and enjoying nature. It was clean and comfortable and came fully stocked with anything that you would need. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone and would stay there again!

Peaceful get-away, incredible vistas

  • 5 of 5

My "bestie" and I spent a girls weekend at "little slice" over the Labor Day weekend - the home and grounds around it are wonderful, and Kathy, the property owner, is equally amazing to work with throughout all arrangements. With plenty of special places to relax and enjoy inside and out, the home was perfect for us for leisurely morning and evening enjoyment and provided a great base for day trips to Salida, Buena Vista (each a little over 10 miles away) and gorgeous surrounding mountain hikes and drives. The new deck is to die for... a great outdoor option to the spacious, clean, natural light-filled interior. Truly a special place.

Will return if you'll have us. :) Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful Tranquil Home with Grand Views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came down from Fort Collins to getaway and celebrate his birthday. We loved this spot! Great views from inside and out. We biked to Mnt Princeton Hot Springs and mountain biked the Monarch Crest Trail! Kathy was easy to work with and provided all the information in a timely fashion. The house is comfortable and relaxing! I miss those majestic views!

Wonderfully convenient and outrageously situated!

  • 5 of 5

I think it's fair to say that the descriptions of this property on VRBO are very accurate. We had no unpleasant or disturbing surprises. The location is so perfect, the sense of space and the direct view of the beauty of the mountains and easy access to walking outside, in the woods, on trails or not, made it ideal for us with a 10-month old who's schedule precluded having to drive somewhere else for outdoor activities. Our son in law even climbed most of Mt. Antero one day (he got up to 12, 700 ft.!)

The sound insulation between the downstairs bedrooms and the upstairs loft bedroom is sufficient to insure privacy and space for all sleepers at night, the amenities are all in good repair and leave nothing to be desired.

And, we particularly enjoyed the hummingbirds! So fun to watch them and all the other species every day, added to the marvelous views in all directions and the blessed quiet, away from most of the sounds of civilization.

I think we all ended up easily being able to imagine going back for another week some day... This place would be hard to beat.

In our own world

  • 5 of 5

Located away from everyday busy life, this mountain lodge is a perfect get away where u can enjoy hiking and relaxation! The views are incredible and breath-taking! We stayed 5 nights with friends and had an outstanding vacation! Salida and Buena Vista are close by with lots of resturants and activities such as river walks, shopping, rafting, zip lining, alpine slide, atv's, horseback riding and more! Kathy was great to work with and the house was clean, spacious and cozy! Viewing the stars from the upper deck was absolutely amazing! We loved grilling out and hanging out on the deck every evening! We would highly recommend this one of a kind experience!
