Well fell in love with the Arkansas Valley many, many years ago when a day hike on majestic Mt. Princeton turned into an overnight adventure. We found our 'Little Slice of Heaven' while camping and tooling around on the fire roads in the National Forest right behind our property. Our best memories have been hiking, ATV'ing, skiing and snow shoeing and exploring this miraculous, unspoiled area. We treat our guests as family that we actually like to come visit 😊, and have so enjoyed hearing about the wonderful memories and experiences that take place at 'The Little Slice.'
Kathy McCasky purchased this house in 2007
Nathrop is located just 13 miles from Buena Vista, which means 'Beautiful Views.' (We don't know what Nathrop means!) 13 miles south and you step back into time in old town Salida. The sense of community and eclectic shops and great dining experiences are so relaxing. Plenty of convenience and no big-box malls suits us just fine! There's a Walmart and plenty of fast food on the outskirts of town...)
A full day of outdoor activities,)followed by a soak at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs brings us sheer joy. Relaxing on the observation deck at night with a glass of wine really puts things in perspective for us. Morning coffee on the deck or by the windows is the best way to start the day.
"Little Slice of Heaven" was the perfect spot for our work/play retreat. While we enjoyed some snowshoeing and the hot springs nearby, most of the time was spent in this beautiful home enjoying the beauty from every window and the quiet, peaceful surroundings. One particularly warm morning we had breakfast on the deck, all of us facing the mountains, in awe of our good fortune. We had every amenity we needed; comfortable beds, cozy fireplace and a well stocked kitchen.
Kathy was great communicating everything we needed to know before hand. Her explicit driving directions and instructions made for an easy in and out!
I will recommend "Little Slice of Heaven" to everyone I know! Thank you for an amazing weekend!!
We made a quick decision after Thanksgiving to go skiing in Colorado and had the best luck ever getting to book "A Little Slice of Heaven" as our vacation home for the holidays! The home was just beautiful with incredible views. We arrived with snow on the ground and the driveway cleared for us Texas drivers. The subdivision the home was located was just as beautiful. We had an easy drive for some Monarch skiing and even drove to Breckenridge one day for some great shopping. Our 4 college aged children just loved the accommodations and building fires in the fireplace while us older kids enjoyed sitting up on the upper deck watching for wildlife and just soaking in the view. The owners Kathy and Mike were awesome and quickly answered any questions we had. Definitely a vacation home we would love to book again. Thanks Kathy!!
WOW! What a great find in the "Little Slice of Heaven". As a family we were searching for that "place" to stay while attending a wedding on Saturday, Sept 26th. It turned out to be much more than we expected. We arrived on Friday without a problem, Kathy's continual communication with me was outstanding. Putting me at ease! The house was outstanding, from the large deck to the bedrooms. I think from almost every room, you get that amazing view of Mt Antero and Mt. Princeton. The house and location for our family was fabulous! Thanks Kathy
We were very comfortable in this unique house--my husband, me, and our two dogs. The loft bedroom was our favorite--so spacious and airy. The observation deck provided my husband with ample vistas for his photography and the proximity to mountain trails was a real plus for us. The grounds around the house were pleasant too--Pinyon Pines, with their lovely smell, other fir trees, and the southwest feel of scrub grasses and other vegetation. And there was plenty of room for our "stuff"--some cabins/houses have very few surfaces, shelves, room by the door for all the things bring. This house has plenty of all.
Two things to know: the internet is very slow, which is normal for places in/near the mountains of CO. Also, there isn't a bathroom on the loft level so sleeping there requires a trip down a spiral staircase should a bathroom be needed in the night. There are other bedrooms on the lower level closer to a bathroom so the loft isn't a necessity but it is so lovely up there that we braved the stairs.
Kathy was very easy to communicate with--we texted about a few things and she was wonderfully responsive, prompt and always helpful.
This home was perfect for our group of five adults. We were so happy upon arrival to be staying in such a clean and well cared for property. The owners thought of everything in furnishing this property and it was so comfortable we only ate out one meal. The views are indescribable of Mt.Antero,Shavano and others and breathtaking from the observation deck.
the property is close to everything you want to do there whether it be fishing, rafting, hiking, horseback riding, biking, etc. It is so close to Mt. Princeton Resort, the girls spent two mornings at the spa and hot springs . The owners are wonderful to work with and always responsive. If you want modern comfort in a secluded area yet close to everything, this is the place for you. We will definitely be back.
I have rented many cabins and homes over the years in Colorado and this one is truly unique. This property has outstanding mountain, meadow, and forest views that are staggering in the jaw-dropping sense. Amazing. There is a very large well-maintained deck and a one-of-a-kind rooftop "lookout" patio that provides 360 degree views. Plus, the home is directly adjacent to the national forest for "walk out your door" convenience to hiking, nature, etc. There are some special interior design features which also accentuate the views, including a great loft. All of that said, it has all the comforts of home, is very clean, and is located at the outer edge of a nicely maintained mountain home community. We just finished a family vacation and it was wonderful to stay here, with excellent weather to boot! The owners are very professional and responsive and anticipated all aspects of our stay. Thank you - I would definitely return to this rental.
