About Kathy McCasky

Well fell in love with the Arkansas Valley many, many years ago when a day hike on majestic Mt. Princeton turned into an overnight adventure. We found our 'Little Slice of Heaven' while camping and tooling around on the fire roads in the National Forest right behind our property. Our best memories have been hiking, ATV'ing, skiing and snow shoeing and exploring this miraculous, unspoiled area. We treat our guests as family that we actually like to come visit 😊, and have so enjoyed hearing about the wonderful memories and experiences that take place at 'The Little Slice.'

Kathy McCasky purchased this house in 2007

Why Kathy McCasky chose South Central Colorado

Nathrop is located just 13 miles from Buena Vista, which means 'Beautiful Views.' (We don't know what Nathrop means!) 13 miles south and you step back into time in old town Salida. The sense of community and eclectic shops and great dining experiences are so relaxing. Plenty of convenience and no big-box malls suits us just fine! There's a Walmart and plenty of fast food on the outskirts of town...)

What makes this house unique

A full day of outdoor activities,)followed by a soak at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs brings us sheer joy. Relaxing on the observation deck at night with a glass of wine really puts things in perspective for us. Morning coffee on the deck or by the windows is the best way to start the day.

This property is called "A Little Slice of Heaven" and it truly is!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a weekend and it was absolutely awesome! The accommodations were wonderful. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen and bathrooms were very clean and well-stocked, and there were plenty of places to comfortably gather for family time, as well as places to have quiet time to read a book, or check social media! (WiFi access is provided.) However, our absolute favorite memory of this place was the unbelievable, unobstructed views of the mountains and sky. We enjoyed seeing the views from the large patio, from comfortable chairs in front of the windows, and from the observation deck! We have never seen so many stars!

An added bonus for us was a trip into the small town of Buena Vista where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and a walk along the river. Will we be back? Yes! During our stay we felt like we had found our own "Little Slice of Heaven."

Love, Love, Love this home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at "A little slice of heaven" a few weeks ago as a last minute get away with friends. We were so glad we did.

The home is well appointed with every home comfort making it easy to kick back and relax. The view from the home is breathtaking and the observation deck was amazing. I've never seen so many stars!

Kathy was so great to work with and gave us some great tips to enjoy the area for our last minute trip.

We'll definitely be back!

Great spot - private, beautiful, and easy to reserve

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time here in the winter, with multiple adults and multiple dogs. The house has everything you could possibly need, including a terrific backyard backing on public land. Tons of sun and very easy to keep warm. Kathy is extremely friendly, clear, and accommodating, and the property is very private. One note for dog owners: all bedrooms are accessed from a spiral staircase. It's the widest and sturdiest spiral staircase I've seen, but our large dogs pretty much refused to touch it, so we had to carry them up and down. Didn't negatively affect our experience, but just be prepared if you have wimpy dogs :).

Couldn't have been a better experience

  • 5 of 5

My family of six and our dog stayed at "a little slice of heaven" the week prior to Christmas this year. We were enchanted with this beautiful home. If you think the pictures are enticing, they don't even do justice to how beautiful the house and surroundings are. Kathy was amazing to work with. Every little thing I requested like an early check in and late check out were accommodated. She had Christmas decorations complete with tree in place. The cabinets are well stocked with an assortment of spices and incidentals that added to our culinary tastes. We enjoyed the fireplace and the grill and found the location to be wonderful. We sat in the hot springs at Mt. Princeton resort, snow mobiled at Monarch Snowmobile Tours, cross country skied in the beautiful forrest behind the property. Buena vista and Salida were easily accessible for grocery needs, dining out, bowling, and last minute holiday shopping. We had a most memorable dinner in Salida at Shallots, a terrific chef owned restaurant with gourmet food. You must be able to use stairs to enjoy your stay, but I guarantee you will love this special property!

Stayed twice, looking forward to many more

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have stayed here twice, once in winter and once in summer. It's a great place. It's far enough away to be quite and remote, yet close enough to Salida and Buena Vista that you don't feel isolated. Monarch Ski resort is very close, there's hiking a stone's throw away, shopping is nearby, and Salida always has something going on.

The house itself is great. A spiral staircase takes you the entire length veritcally, all the way to the roof top deck. Going out on the deck was my favorite, especially at night. I heard a coyote howl one evening, and the stars are great.

Back in the house, the kitchen is well set up, with everything you need. Same with the bathrooms. The kids loved staying in the downstairs bedrooms while Mom and Dad loved the lofted master bedroom. Outside there is great deck and a nice large yard for the kids to play in. My daughter saw a couple elk while on the swing in the yard.

I'm looking forward to our next stay. It really is a slice of heaven.
