I moved to Redding in 1979 and have loved living here for so many reasons...the beautiful mountains,Whiskeytown & Shasta Lakes, the Sacramento River flowing through town and all of the outdoor recreational activities available here. I began selling Real Estate in 1990 and decided that one day I would love to live by the river. My dream came true 3 years ago when I was blessed with the opportunity to purchase one of the most unique & 'ONE OF A KIND' properties in Redding. Now I love the opportunity to share it with others...I've been a Realtor since 1990 with Coldwell Banker C&C Properties and love to help people find their 'dream' property!
Jamie Drewsen purchased this cottage in 2007
The moment I drove down this 800 foot long driveway viewing the river I was mesmerized with this hidden jewell in the center of Redding. I knew I had to figure out a way to make it mine. I didn't realize at the time, that I would be making it available to others as a vacation rental. The more friends that came to visit were astounded at the views, privacy and uniqueness of the property,so I decided it would make a great vacation place for others to enjoy. I never tire of seeing Bald Eagles fly by, deer out in the pasture below and the train coming around the bend on the historic Diestlehorst trestle. It's a true gem!
Walk, run, or bike to the River Trail System just up the block. Walk to Starbucks & local restaurants . Only 3 miles to Bethel Church.
So many visitors love the convenient location, yet the feeling of being surrounded by nature. Bird lovers paradise! Bring your binoculars.
What a spot! Downtown Redding, so close, but with the "illusion of seclusion". We'll definately keep this in mind when our next visit to the area comes up--sure beats a hotel for the homey comforts and the hospitality.
My husband and I just spent an incredibly relaxing four nights at the Diestelhorst Cottage and we can't wait to go back! We'd just escaped a bad experience at a local B&B and the idyllic, peaceful surroundings; convenient location; and luxury and comfort of this cottage were just what we needed. While the other two cottages are free-standing and at the other end of the property (and, it seems to me, are perfect for families), the Diestelhorst Cottage is situated below the main house, with it's own steps, pathway, deck, and entrance. The owner Ronda gave us plenty of space and privacy and we wouldn't have known that anyone was upstairs, but she was also attentive when we needed help and we enjoyed chatting with her on our arrival and departure. Given that our stay took place in July and during a heatwave, it was very hot, but the cottage's air-conditioning and brushed, cement floors kept us wonderfully cool. And we were able to watch the July 4th fireworks show from our deck! The view of the river and countryside from the deck is fantastic and can also be seen from both the bedroom and the kitchen/livingroom, so we spent a lot of time gazing out the window or sitting out on the deck chairs watching and listening to the sights and sounds of nature (tons of birds and, at night, crickets; plus deer, raccoons, and skunks, as well as the owner's lovely white kitty). We also enjoyed watching freight trains roll by on the historic Diestelhorst train trestle; it's a real treat for train lovers and the noise (which you can't hear from inside due to the dual-pane windows) didn't bother us at all. The estate itself is beautiful and absolutely unique; you feel like you're way off in the country, but, in fact, it's only blocks away from downtown, the river trail system, and more. We ate out quite a bit, but also brought out our own food to prepare in the full kitchen. Did I mention the incredibly comfortable king-size bed and all the closet and drawer space? Very romantic and relaxing setting that I can't recommend highly enough. We're regular visitors and plan on staying here in the future whenever possible.
I frequently travel and require short term housing. This rental without a doubt one of the best I have found to date. Although within the city, the location is private and the surroundings beautiful and quiet. The apartment itself was comfortable, immaculate and tastefully furnished. The owner/property manager is available for any questions and respectful of the tenants privacy. I highly recommend this for anyone.
What an amazing property and amazing stay! We stayed in the nautical cottage, which is a detached building. The view of the river was peaceful and beautiful. The cottage itself was well designed and beautifully decorated. We had absolutely everything we needed. Although the owner also lived on the property, she read us perfectly - responding promptly when we had a question but respected our privacy. We walked to three different Redding landmark restaurants for dinner, making this a fantastic location for us. It was a the relaxing vacation we needed. We'll even be looking at Redding as a potential retirement spot when we're ready in a few years. In the meantime, we'll be back to this VRBO!
I spent a weekend at the Nautical cottage. When I first pulled up to the cottage and noticed the theme-based décor outside of the cottage (i.e. a deck shaped like the bow of a ship), I knew I was in for a treat. Inside the cottage was idyllic. Ronda did such an amazing job at making this space into a cozy retreat. I was amazed at how no detail was missed...she thought of everything. The view of the river is so peaceful and beautiful. I took walks along the riverside each morning and spent as much time as possible in the cottage in the afternoons. I can't even begin to describe what a wonderful experience I had. I would also add that Ronda is a lovely person and it was a pleasure all the way around to rent this lovely little cottage from her. I highly recommend to anyone - a romantic retreat, a peaceful single retreat, or someone who just wants to just get away from it all. Also notable, the location is right near downtown and 10 minutes from Bethel church. I will definitely be returning to stay at the cottages again. :)
I rented the Nautical cottage for almost 5 weeks while visiting from Alaska, and was pleased to be so close to town (within walking distance) and yet be able to spend time in a beautiful, peaceful environment. .The patio affords views of the Sacramento river, and the folks fishing, and best of all, of the trains that go by. The cottage and the grounds were beautifully maintained,, and if I was in need of anything not already there, all I had to do was contact the owner. I definitely would plan another stay here, and do recommend this property to friends and family, and anyone else who is looking for a bit of seclusion yet wanting to be close to town for either business, shopping, or sightseeing.
We stayed here in April just before the easter weekend. The rental was very comfortable, private and had every amenity you could need on a vacation. We cooked there one evening and had everything we needed. Ronda is very helpful without being intrusive. The location is superb, you feel you are in a rural setting but starbucks is just a 5 min walk away. We hope to get back to Redding one day and would definitely stay here again.
