We had a great time swimming in the lake and fishing. The apartment is a nice place with all the amenities. It was not as cool as it could have been and the wireless did not work as well as I had hoped. The Kayaks were not available but we were able to rent some close by and take advantage of the lake completely. Would definitely return sometime in the future.
My husband , our three daughters and I really enjoyed our stay at this lovely private beach. The owner was very welcoming and respectful and so was the other family that shares the beach. We enjoyed swimming and playing in the lake. There is a comfortable and fairly secluded area for grilling or just relaxing in the Adirondack chairs and hammock. (We were definitely sharing the owners property, so if you want your own private space outdoors this may not be the place for you. However, our family felt completely at ease when the owner was there.) The apartment was clean and comfortable. It is as described in the listing. The quaint Adirondack Country Store is two miles down the road. The family run store serves breakfast and lunch and is a fun place to browse. It really was a privilege to stay at such a beautiful secluded property.
We (me, my boyfriend and 3 children aged 5, 7 and 9) stayed here for a week from Monday to Saturday morning. We would go back. If you are reading this review to decide whether or not to book, the answer is YES, you should. There was an amazing beach (which actually had sand!) and the water was great. We barely had to leave because the lake was entertainment enough. It's beautiful scenery, set on beautiful property. The owners were relatively responsive to whatever we needed. Like I said, I'd stay again. BUT.... there are a few things that I would like to share to help anyone else planning to stay here have a more accurate picture.
1) The property for rent is a small apartment above the garage for the owners house. His house, along with his father's house are on the same lot of land, along with some other extended family members. The beach is shared by all houses. So it is NOT a private beach in the sense that there are other people that use it. We were FORTUNATE because no one was there Monday - Thursday and then some other owners came up Fri and Sat. They had jetskis and used them in front of the beach and we opted not to let the children swim while they were using the skis because it seemed pretty dangerous.
2) The Queen bed in the apartment is hard as a ROCK. I considered buying an egg crate for the time we were there - it was very uncomfortable.
3) The picnic/fire/hammock area is on the other side of the house from the beach. If you have small children, it's unrealistic that you could be in the hammock and they could be on the beach.
4) Bring some kids DVDs if you have children, the selection there was slim.
I don't want these things to make it appear that it's a bad rental. ITS NOT. I would rent again. I would make sure that I was renting at a time when it was less likely the other owners would be there though, because the best part about the place is the solitude it offers.
THANKS for sharing your amazing property with us!
The owner description and posted pictures of the rental property suggest that guests will have their own beach and some privacy. There isn't any area for guests to sit without being seen from the owner’s house windows.
Privacy is important to some people. The two reviews you allowed to post do not give any useful information to the potential renter. They could be written by the owners themselves.
We had a good time as well. Leaving our apartment in the morning and coming back in the evening. This wasn't what we expected, but we felt uncomfortable using the outside areas with the owner family, present at all time, looking down at us from their house.
We stayed at this idyllic place directly following a hectic sightseeing trip to New York City. It was the perfect antidote. The location is private and peaceful with your own beach and small rowboat to use. The apartment is above a garage and was comfortable for us and our teenage son. There was everything we needed for our stay.
The Adirondack General Store is not to be missed. Also, we enjoyed the Natural Stone Bridge and Caves in nearby Pottersville ... a fun, family-oriented couple of hours.
The owner was friendly and prompt in answering our enquiries.
The apartment is as described and as the pictures show. It is very comfortable, clean and well-taken care of. The children enjoyed running and splashing on the beach although I wouldn't let my 5 year old swim in it because it was grassy. She did, however, enjoy laying in the hammock. :-) We did take her swimming at the public beach on Schroon Lake which is really nice. Owners are very nice and accomodating.
