Great Lake Stay
Be sure to confirm with owner that wifi is working, if you need it. We didn't have service, even after they reset the main modem. No air conditioning as stated in description. The location is terrific with sand beach and it's a pretty quiet spot.
Beautiful setting but poor comfort.
Our family enjoyed the east shore of Schroon Lake during some lovely summer weather in August 2018. The owner accomodated a last minute request for additional guests.
Our “Beachfront Retreat” quarters consisted of an apartment above the free-standing garage immediately next to the owner’s house. There were ceiling fans but no a/c. Fortunately, it cooled off into the’60’s at night. The apartment was in nice condition. The exceptional weather had us spending most of our time outdoors.
The beach was clean but water was somewhat weedy and muddy for swimming. The grandchildren enjoyed the sandy beach and rinsing off in the water. We noticed soapy foam on the water in the mornings. The children also enjoyed use of an inflatable watercraft on the beach.
We enjoyed cooking out on the charcoal grille and eating at the 6-person picnic table. The fire pit was delightful, as was the hammock.
The beds were rock hard and bed buggy- a real issue for several adults and a child. We received a tepid response from the owner in a communication after our visit about the bugs. Disappointing.
Our family of four consisting of a 2 yr old and 2 month old had a great time on our trip to Schroon Lake. We loved the beach area, swing set, playhouse, fire pit, BBQ, and hammock. The owners came up on the weekend and offered us to use some of their kayaks and floats which was nice. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
Pretty place - but rest was ok.
The property itself was beautiful! The apartment was as described - small but clean. The owner was responsive via email quickly as needed. The beach was private with the exception of the biting sand flies that swarmed is mid-day. We had to leave the beach they were so bad. The other disappointing thing was that the rowboat that is described is super heavy to try to bring to the beach. The dock that is out in the water is the neighbors and can’t be used by renters. That was disappointing. The kids did enjoy the swing set - and the fire pit was great. The bed in the master bedroom is rather uncomfortable. My husband ended up trying to sleep on pullout - but the mattress literally must have been 20 years old. The best mattress were the twin beds. The beautiful quiet of the Adirondacks at night is wonderful except when the automatic sprinkler system kicks in. I have never heard something so loud !!! The wireless also was not good - even with the password for the locked one, it constantly flipped automatically to the guest one. It was unreliable which is frustrating when you have kids that want to watch Netflix at night. Lastly, the Adirondack General Store is quaint, but the gentleman who owns it should get out of the customer service business. He was just unpleasant. It is not a walkable distance with kids - and the places closes by 5 every day. Plan ahead if you need something.
Wonderful time away!
Our family of 5 had a nice, relaxing time together. We enjoyed the lake, the BBQ area, the surrounding nature trails, the Adirondack Experience museum, Lake George nearby, and Great Escape Lodge’s indoor water park on a rainy day! Lots of adventures to come across and games inside for quiet times.
Thank you for a nice getaway place for our family to enjoy!
Don’t forget to bring lake toys/floats like a noodle! :)
Great views with everything you need for a memorable vacation
Pros: My husband, two small children and I had a wonderful time at this location. The view of the lake is amazing and everything you would want at a beachside resort is available; BBQ grills, hammock, swings and beach with lots of sand. The kids spent hours at the beach and we had BBQ and s'mores almost every night we were there.
The property is clean and equipped with the necessities of cooking at home. As others have mentioned, you are using the space above the garage of a private residence so it's not 100% private. But, it's comforting to know that there are people nearby who can help in case you have any questions or need help. For example, there was a power shortage during our stay and we had no idea what was going on. The owners next door found out there was a fire in the neighborhood and the fire department turned off the power for safety measures. The host provided us with flashlights and ice to get by until the power returned. It's probably also notable that they had an emergency generator that kicked in so we weren't completely out of power.
There's plenty to do for the whole family to enjoy within a short drive if the view gets old (it doesn't) or the weather isn't great. (ie., shopping, horseback riding, hiking, etc.) Great getaway spot with super friendly host and would highly recommend.
Cons: A couple things to note. The wifi is not very strong and mattresses were too soft for our liking.
Located on the East side of Schroon Lake, 2 Miles North of the Adirondack General Store.
