Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms and loft area + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

The Ridge Road Cabin is one of the nicest all-year cabins/cottages available in the area and is open year round. The Cabin is fully equipped with furniture, linen, fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, cable TV and DVD players, as well as an IPOD and MP3 speaker docking station. The Cabin also has a collection of movies, books and games for those times spent indoors.

The Ridge Road Cabin is located on an acre, on a no through road, with lots of seclusion and privacy, and just a short half mile walk from town. It is peaceful and quiet and it is surrounded on three sides by trees and woods. When you wake in the morning, in the main bedroom king size bed, look out across the ridge and trees to the Lake Superior's skyline. You may catch a glimpse of Lake Superior's water after the leaves have fallen in the fall. Sunsets can be magnificent from the second floor master bedroom at anytime of the year as you get the low sky colors at dusk. You might also enjoy sitting on the deck watching the sunset or the deer making their way through the woods, or sitting by the fire pit at night with little, except firelight, to interfere with your night sky.

The environmentally friendly cabin is all electric, which means you get just clean Upper Peninsula Michigan air. The gas fireplace is for extra ambiance and back-up heat. The beds have soft white comforters and warm fleece blankets, quilts or coverlets.

The Ridge Road Cabin now has two bedrooms and a small loft area on the second floor. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and bedroom two has a full bed, perfect for two couples. The loft area has two twin beds. There is some additional bedding available at a small fee (see the notes under "rates"). On the first floor is the living room, kitchen and bathroom as well as the deck area and garage. The set up is ideal to allow some people to continue to sleep while the remainder of the guests are using the living areas below.

In summer, spring and autumn, laying in a hammock beside the deck, and reading a book while waiting for your dinner to grill, is always a favorite. The cabin has a large gas grill on the deck as well as a fire pit in an open grassy area. There is also a small charcoal grill available for use.

The driveway is paved and a good size for boats and snowmobiles and trailers. A large attached lockable garage can house the car or motorcycles. When your car or motorbike is not parked, take a drive or ride down to Sable Lake or the dunes or to the start of the many walking trails in the area. The Cabin is center to accessing the snow mobile trails, both east and west of the town. In summer, it is just a short stroll down to the lake for a swim.

The Cabin's location is approximately 0.38 of a mile from the lake as the crow flies, and is approximately 0.5 mile from the lake and center of town by road. There are a number of quaint restaurants and bars in town within easy walking distance, if you like to walk. The West Bay Diner and Delicatessen has an excellent chef who makes fresh bread and dishes made from scratch, and it is all contained in an old fashioned diner facade. The Dune Saloon makes a mean pizza and some very good beer,, and is the favorite watering hole for the locals. The Breakwall Bakery and Cafe is also popular with visitors.

You'll relax at the Ridge Road Cabin.

INTERNET: No WiFi in the Ridge Road Cabin. Free WiFi internet available at various places around town, including (subject to change without notice) at the Diner a short walk away down the hill, and at the Grand Marais Outfitters in the center of town.

Directions:

FROM H-77 - Travel on H-77 toward Grand Marais, turn right on Ridge Road (next after Carpenter Rd) before going down the hill into town, cross over Woodruff St and the Ridge Road Cabin is approximately 100 yards on your right.

FROM GRAND MARAIS TOWN CENTER: Travel along Grand Marais Ave running along the bay, turn right on Woodruff St, go up the hill and cross Wilson St then turn left on Ridge Road and the Ridge Road Cabin is approximately 100 yards on your right.

About Owner/Property Manager

Our connection with this area started during childhood summers and has remained ever since. It is peaceful and quiet here and we know that every time we leave we don't want to go.

Owner/Property Manager purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

It is away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy the many snowmobile trails and walking trails in the area. We also have fun mixing with the local residents.

We would snowmobile from here and it was a great experience! The only thing is we wish it would have had a second bathroom. I would definitely stay here again!

Ridge Rd Cabin

  • 3 of 5

The Ridge Rd Cabin was a good value, and the listing was accurate. Nice kitchen and living area, nice to have a washer and dryer.

Property was clean and well maintained. Good location to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Quick trip into town, loved the diner! Wish the weather would have been better (lots of rain).

O.K., but wouldn't stay here again

  • 3 of 5

Property is secluded and quiet, yet still only about 1/2 mile walk to downtown Grand Marais, which was great! The home itself has a strong mold/must smell that hits you hard upon entering through the garage. There was also a strong odor coming from the kitchen (couldn't figure out what was causing it...possibly the garbage disposal)? Overall, it just wasn't as clean as what I'm accustomed to (and I've stayed in plenty of other vacation homes).

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, clean, convenient place to stay. The loft/sleeping area was spacious as was the kitchen - cute deck and fire ring. I would stay here again if traveling to this area. Both the housekeeper and property manager were helpful and eager to make sure our stay was good.

What a wonderful find

  • 5 of 5

This was truly a memorable experience. It was clean, cozy, convenient. Everything we needed was there. Camped all my lifetime and do not get a chance to do something like this often. Am already planning a trip for next Summer. Just can't say enough about this Cabin and Grand Marais. Loved it.
