Aloha. Our family had a simply wonderful stay at the Swaying Palms from 7/9/2019 to 7/19/2016. For our family of 12 (2 grandparents celebrating their 50th anniversary, 3 children and their spouses, 2 grandchildren, 1 grandson in law, and one friend of grandson), it was "perfect". Its beachfront location on the highway was close to lots of things to do and places to eat out, though we mostly cooked at the house. There was something for everyone to do everyday. It was very comfortable for us. We felt like we could relax and enjoy ourselves, in excellent, but not overly fancy accommodations. It felt like "home". We would highly recommend it to a family or group like ours.
If we are fortunate to come back to Kauai, this is the first place we will hope to stay.
We just spent a wonderful week at this property. This home was comfortable and is located in the most beautiful setting. There are breathtaking views from every room. We loved the quiet and peacefulness of the location. We were a family of six celebrating a special anniversary. It was perfect for us....... We would return again.
We filled the house with 14 adults for a week in August 2016, and loved the property! The best feature about this house is that it sits right on the beach. The main beach access is via the large lanai off the living room. It's a good beach for sitting: watching the sunrise over Princeville, tanning during the morning hours, enjoying shade and cool breezes in the afternoon, or watching the stars at night. Few beachcombers wander by, so it's easy to enjoy the illusion that this is a private beach, just for your enjoyment. The beach immediately in front of the house is rocky beyond knee-deep, so it's good for splashing around but not for swimming. There's a sandy area about 100 feet up the beach, which is more swim-friendly. When we were visiting, there was little current and some pretty fantastic snorkeling. HOWEVER ocean conditions change constantly - swimming here might be dangerous during your visit.
The house was clean and well-maintained. Bath and beach towels were plentiful and of good quality. There were some minor glitches (the dining room slider doesn't slide smoothly; one of the folding doors in front of the washer/drier came off; the dishwasher made a high, squealing noise) nothing that a little patience didn't fix. We were surprised that the basic supplies (toilet paper, dish soap, hand soap, etc.) were pretty limited and we had to restock ourselves. The property managers made only two keys available; we ended up getting more keys made, but really it would be much more convenient to have combination locks on all the doors.
There was sufficient parking for our entire group. Some of our party found the road intimidating to drive after dark.
It's difficult to figure out from the listing and photos how this property is laid out. Hopefully I can clarify. There is the main house facing the beach, and then two suites closer to the road. The bottom floor of the main house comprises a huge living room, a large galley kitchen, a dining room, and a bedroom suite. The living room is the centerpiece of the house. Windows on two sides provide a panoramic view of the ocean. Seating comfortable for nine people, or slightly squeezed for 12. We dragged three chairs in from the lanai and never felt a lack of space. A slider leads to the main lanai (uncovered but shaded by the house in the afternoon), which has stairs to the beach.
The kitchen is adequate but not great. We cooked at the house most nights, so we put it through its pac
Booked this house because it was on the beach on the north shore of Kauai. Location is far out and shopping is 4 to 7 miles from the house. The house has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and is large enough for 14 people as we had 13 on our visit. Except for the rain the house was great for our stay. The beach in front is OK as it has a lot of rocks and coral not great for swimming. there are better beaches close though.
Had some issues with all the rain bugs, ants which were expected with all the rain. Kauai is the wettest island with over 450 inches of rain.
There were 5 tropical storms the week before we went there and also the week we were there with lots of clouds and showers because of all the storms heading towards Hawaii.
Overall, our trip was nice, with my family enjoyed the island. Would probably stay closer to things on another trip to Hawaii.
We were a group of thirteen friends from church in Silicon Valley. From the moment we walked into this home we were in awe of the amazing views. It couldn't be any closer to the water, and every single room had a picture perfect view of the ocean. The house was roomy with plenty of beds and bathrooms and everything was clean and looked freshly painted. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well listening to the waves at night. The deck steps go down to a beach with the most beautiful golden sand I've ever seen. We had to pull chairs from around the house to fit everyone around the dining room table, but cooking breakfast and dinner was easy and we routinely had over five people cooking at once. The neighborhood around the home is safe and beautiful to explore. Management was extremely responsive - we barbequed quite a bit so we ran out of gas: management brought more gas the same day! Every one of us would come back to this home!
We stayed at Swaying Palms from Aug. 10-20, 2014, with as many as 13 people in our group arriving on different dates. We can confirm all the comments about the location, which is spectacular, with almost all the rooms having an oceanfront door or window. The kitchen was clean and well equipped, and the management company was very responsive when we called. There were also plenty of other good amenities such as beach toys, towels, chairs, etc. However, the house itself is quite run down and in need of updating. Close observers will spot that the ad pictures are color-enhanced for appeal, but even taking that into account left us a little surprised at how shabby some parts of the house actually were, including a lot of the dated furniture, fixtures, old beds/mattresses and items in need of repair. For the rental fees charged, we would expect the owners to spend a little more on updating and renovation, and encourage them to do so. (By comparison, we stayed at Hale Kepuhi, right next door, a few years back and found it to be much more nicely equipped with modern amenities, though fewer bedrooms.) If you're needing a beachfront house with 7 bedrooms, there aren't too many other options in the Haena area, and this house more than delivers on scenery and location, only a few minutes away from Hanalei. Everyone in our party had a fabulous time in this idyllic locale, but everyone was also commenting about the shabbiness of some of the accommodations. If you go in with lowered expectations about the condition of the house (i.e., not as new and colorful as pictured), you can't help but having a great time right on such a beautiful beach. All things considered however, having stayed there for ten days, we won't be returning to Swaying Palms.
Our group had a total of 13 people. 7 adults and 6 children. This was a great place to stay. Layout of the house was perfect for a large group. We never felt cramped or in each others way. The kitchen was furnished with a great amount of dishes, silverware, appliances, and pots/pans. Very comfortable stay. I hope to have the opportunity to stay there again.
Farmer's markets nearby, National Tropical Botanical Garden nearby, minutes to world-famous Tunnels Beach, Kalalau Trail and Napali Coast.
