Three Bedrooms, 2 Full baths, 1 Half Bath. Sleeps 10. 3 covered porches + deck

Stunningly Designed Cottage on a private corner of a historic 100 acre farm. Situated on a scenic bluff overlooking the legendary Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains this 'cottage' has a stone fireplace and wood beamed ceilings through the main floor. In addition to three covered porches (including one with a Hot Tub) there is a 34' second floor deck overlooking the river. At river level there is a multi-level deck and 30' floating dock right on the water. Perfect for boating fishing, swimming or just enjoying the sun and water. Less than one hour from the Washington Beltway and Dulles Airport. There are numerous restaurants, shops, golf courses, wineries, National Parks (Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest), hiking trails (Appalachian Trail), battlefields etc are literally ten to twenty minutes away. Then, of course- best of all, your own piece the Shenandoah River!

Please Note: Location Map shows gate location and not the house. The Private Driveway is a quarter mile long!

To quote a renter from Texas... ' We have been from Maine to New Mexico and this is the best we property have ever stayed in!

About Frank O'Reilly and Sean O'Reilly

My wife Angelique and I bought this historic property from a family that had owned it for 155 years! This once in a lifetime chance (several lifetimes actually) was simply too much to miss. With such a spectacular riverfront location, our goal was to create the most memorable vacation retreat in the Shenandoah Valley. After years of planning and design for a river cottage, to compliment the existing renovated farmhouse (a ten minute walk away through the woods and rolling fields), the results are yours to enjoy. One of our sons Sean took over online reservations in 2012 but dad Frank is still the 'boots on the ground' and will be on the other end of the phone if you call. Our family never tires of it and it is our joy to share it with you.

Frank O'Reilly and Sean O'Reilly purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Frank O'Reilly and Sean O'Reilly chose Shenandoah Valley

After 30 years of living on the Shenandoah River, enjoying it's beauty and recreational possibilities, we were still awestruck by the sheer magnitude and combination of nature's bounty possessed by this farm...thousands of feet of River Front, sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, acres of rolling hills and woods, sunrises, sunsets...the list goes on and on.

What makes this cottage unique

'Peacefulness without loneliness' is an old Irish expression that captures the private wooded riverside retreat yet convenience of so many attractions, shops and restaurants nearby to the River Overlook Cottage at Rolling River Farm.

Perfect spot

Incredibly beautiful views from every room in this lovely house. Everything we could possibly need was here, and we were close to Shenandoah National Park for hiking as well as right on the river for kayaking. Great vacation, we are already making plans to stay here next year!

Perfect

Great house and property. After 2 disappointing VRBOs this year we found the house that truly matched the photos. Ultimately you want to know if we would book again and YES! Already working on 2017.

Serene and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this property the weekend of Aug 20th 2016. The house is private, beautiful and well equipped. The view from the house and porch was fantastic. Connecting with nature was effortless and rewarding. We enjoyed our stay and treasured the time we had to spend with each other. The only somewhat disappointing thing was that the river is rather a still body of water and not what we expected (a river of flowing clear and clean water). The drive had some spooky parts and the walk from the house to the river is a workout (not easy for the elderly). The location was a plus as our drive from northern Virginia was short and pleasant.

We will recommend this house to others and will consider staying there again in the future. We are considering a weekend in early spring, hoping that water/river may be more enjoyable.

Thank you Frank and Sean for a lovely house and your generosity.

Beautiful home

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a lovely time at this home. The house is absolutely beautiful and all of the furnishings were very comfortable. They made sure that we had everything we could need. We barbecued every night, took the kayaks out and played flashlight tag in the woods at night. It's only an hour drive to Washington DC and Mt Vernon and very close to places to go tubing, 7 pools, and the state park. The only thing I would say is that the river is a bit murky and has algae. If you're looking for a great place to go swimming, its difficult to find in this area. I am glad that I was forewarned about the neighborhood - There are a lot of abandoned homes and doesn't seem like the best neighborhood, but then you get to this property and it's absolutely beautiful. We felt very safe.

Fantastic Property with Amazing Views!!

  • 5 of 5

What a joy it was to celebrate my oldest son's 28th and husband's 60th birthday during our recent stay... The house is beautiful and everything you might need has been thought of! While the kids (they still are to me) mostly enjoyed the river, fishing and kayaking day and night, I have to say my favorite thing was having all the areas to relax in. Whether its sitting around one of the fire pits, propane or wood (there are two), or reading my book on the deck in comfy furniture that makes you want to linger, or on the top level to catch some rays, or the best of all.... the hot tub, I had no trouble decompressing... escaping... from the day to day stresses. We all had our own space and gathered together around the large dining table for meals (with that amazing view)... Everyone is asking, "when can we return"? Autumn would be wonderful -- with all the trees changing colors, and Winter time would be the best time to completely "chill", since the house itself is cozy too! I'm certain we will be back as soon as possible! Thank you Frank and Sean for sharing your house with me and my family. See you soon!!
