About the property

Enjoy our three bedroom cabin set up on a hill overlooking the lovely Little Yellow Lake, midway between Danbury and Webster and 30 minutes to Hinckley. The cabin is the true 'up north' feel with knotty pine and hardwood floors, taxidermy on the walls and antiques and log furniture through out the cabin.

Every bedroom has a sliding glass door that opens to a deck that overlooks the lake, great for the morning coffee. The main deck off the living room is huge and has a large hot tub and a barbeque for your afternoon relaxation. Off the dining area is a large screened in porch for the evening conversations and meals and also to keep the bugs away!

The cabin rests on 3 acres and has 317 feet of lakeshore to enjoy. There is a newer pontoon boat available for either cruising the lake or trying your luck on the excellent fishing. There is also a trail down to the lake if you want to drop in your own boat.

The cabin was recently updated to a high standard and includes a washer a dryer in the cabin. The kitchen and bathroom are new and are well stocked with incidentals. Come stay with us, you won't be disappointed!

Questions people ask!

Pontoon is included with a prepaid $35.00 gas fee, we purchased the boat in 2012

CENTRAL AIR installed 2012, thank my wife!!!!

New monster grill 2012.

It is not a sandy lake, I have 3 kids and we swim in close by Siren with a great park and sandy beach.

There is a flat screen with satellite only in the living room.

There is no wifi, there is a coffee shop in town with wifi hot spots.

But most importantly fishing is almost always awesome!!!!!!!

We are a clean as you go cabin. I expect everyone to clean 1 hour per person per week, we supply the cleaning supplies OR I have someone in town who cleans for $100. Most people prefer this route, it is easiest!!!

About The Owner

Wife and I were looking for a nice place to stay and stumbled across this cabin, we weren't looking to buy a place that day, but this place was so special, we could not say no! I hope you enjoy the cabin as much as we have in the short time.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2009

Why The Owner chose Danbury

We bought this cabin because it is tucked in the pines, yet has great views of the lake, plus the recent updating makes the condition of the property unbelievable

What makes this cabin unique

Large screened porch is great for evening dinners and conversation. The decks are huge and enjoy the hot tub while looking at the lake. The fishing is great!

Nice lake/cabin. Needs deep clean and maintenance

  • 2 of 5

Over all we enjoyed our stay and had a lot of fun fishing and swimming. We had 4 adults and 2 dogs. The lake is good to fish and swim when you find the weed free areas/sand bar. There is also access to Yellow River under a bridge which the Pontoon boat will fit under as long as the awning is not attached which it was not. On the Lake we caught a lot of Perch and Pan fish. On the river we caught a lot of Pike and Bass. Now to the negatives. I have rented homes on Home Away and VRBO for many years. I have never left a bad review because I have always had a positive experience. We are easy renters to please. We just expect a clean home and the property/amenities to be as described. Pulling up to the cabin the first thing we noticed is the lawn had not been mowed in easily two weeks. There is a moss covered broken down shed with the door wide open. The garage where you were supposed the throw your trash away was a mess. The screened in porch that is described as keeping you away from bugs does not, as it has many holes in the screen. Having the pontoon boat included was nice, but we were disappointed in the shape it was in. It did not have the awning on it because apparently it blew off in a storm. Which was a negative on the hot days on the lake when you could have used the cover from the sun. The cup holders had mouse poop in them. The seats and carpet had mildew and mold on them. The boat had obviously been water logged and/or not stored properly. The boat was easy to use and ran decent though. The biggest problem for us was that the cabin was sub par clean at best. There were cob webs and spider webs with spiders. You felt as though you could not walk bare foot because the wood floor had not been swept or cleaned recently. The shower curtain had mildew on it and there were dead bugs in the bath tub. The kicker is you pay cash to the care taker for cleaning? But also according the contract the renter must clean the cabin on departure. So obviously many renters before us had not cleaned. And as I went to use one of the vacuums it started to smoke so I used a smaller one that's handle falls off. Also the care taker interrupted a day out on the lake to come to the cabin to collect her money as well as to take a video of the washing machine which wasn't working at the time. For the price I expected a nice clean cabin and boat. This property needs a deep clean and maintenance and will be back to their price tag per week. But for now I feel like I overpaid.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry that you did not enjoy the cabin. I feel that we have put in place a system that if people have a problem they can get a hold of us. I looked back and I forwarded you my cell 5 times before you left and Michelle (our cleaner) once, plus her phone number is on the refrigerator if people need anything. We never received any calls. I also emailed that with dogs we require renters to pay for cleaning from Michelle, she will do the cleaning. You are right on the pontoon boat, it took a hit from a storm that came through, knocking off the tops, this will be getting attention this winter. I hope that future renters don't see calling either one of us as an inconvenience.

Just relax and enjoy the view!

  • 4 of 5

This incredible get-away in the midst of a secluded, wooded setting is where you can really relax and unwind. The view is unbelievable and can be enjoyed from every room, even the hot tub!

The cabin has an open concept and is very comfortable for bigger groups. We loved the all the knotty pine and up north decor so tastefully done. The rooms upstairs get a little warm but we took advantage of the air conditioning on a couple of the warmer days.

We loved using the pontoon and brought our own canoe to paddle down the Yellow River. If you can do this, don't miss it. It's just down the shore a bit to the mouth of the river.

The hill to the lake is steep but the hidden paved road along side the cabin is very convenient to launch a boat or carry things down to the lake. Once down at the lake, there is a big open grassy space to spread out and play lawn games etc. The beach is a little weedy but there is a sand bar on the lake great for swimming fun!

As soon as you are back home, you will be dreaming about this place and when you can go up again.

Review #14907116 “Little Yellow Lake 'Up North Feel!'”

Great stay, great owners, great trip

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Our family of 6 stayed here for almost two weeks. We wish we could have stayed longer. We traveled throughout the county and to Minneapolis, (an easy trip), It was a wonderful experience. There were so many things to do and so many places to visit, yet we all would have been happy never leaving the property. The owner is wonderful and did the very best to make us comfortable like it was our home and that is how we felt. We always drove down the paved drive to the lakeshore due to our handicapped child, but our boys had no problem walking.

The cabin is so comfortable and convenient, we were pleased. The screen room was a blessing to the smokers in our family and the gratis Pontoon boat was exceptional. I wish the Yellow lake association would find a way to modify the bridge to allow a connection from Little to Big Yellow lake. Nevertheless, the whole experience was delightful.

We highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a get-away vacation or the Northwoods experience. I can't really think of anything that this cabin doesn't have to accomodate a nice stay. An internet connection/wifi would ave been desirable. Our family wanted to see everything the area had to offer and had to use our cell phones to access Google. I guess my only negative would be the lack of internet service, but depending upon your vacation desires, that may be a blessing.

My recommendation is to stay here as long as you can afford because from our experience, a short time seems seriously inadequate. The owners are more than willing to make your stay comfortable and have personnel in the area to assist with any issues you have. We would be very happy to return whenever finances allow.

2 couples at Little Yellow Lake

  • 5 of 5

Loved the steam coming off the water in the early October morning…with the eagles flying over head. Beds were comfortable, and the kitchen had everything you needed to make a gourmet meal ….could have used some wine glasses but had everything else! Loved the beautiful wood paneling, the dining room table with drawers from an orphanage, and the touches of nature on the door handles. Great deck overlooking the water and fantastic piece of property....very private. Nice dry wood found in garage for the fire pit with chairs to look up at the tub overlooking lake was awesome !! Bike riding to Danbury on The Gandy Dancer Trail located nearby made for a fun activity.

Perfect week on the lake

  • 5 of 5

I just got back from a great week on the lake with my family. We all loved it. The house was perfect with plenty of room and a real cabin feel. The huge deck was perfect for morning coffee and dinners in the evening. Having the use of the pontoon was the real highlight of our trip! Found the sand bar and spent a lot of time in the water throwing frisbees and lounging in floaties.

Great Deal

  • 5 of 5

This House is wonderful, we wanted to stay longer. It felt like home the minute we walked in. They have thought of everything, all you need are clothes and food. The pontoon was great, we fished everyday and just enjoyed being at the lake. The path down to the lake is steep and we are older so we drove down with no problem. The caretaker was more than helpful. We will be back next year.
