About Daniel

Daniel and Betsy have been blessed to live on this unique property for over twenty five years. We strive to maintain this property in its natural beauty. We use organic farming practices in the vineyard .We are dedicated to keeping the property in its pristine shape.

Daniel purchased this villa in 1990

Why Daniel chose Sonoma County

This property is within minutes of a beautiful state park, wineries, restaurants, but yet has a feeling of being 'years' away from civilization. The uniqueness of the property is the natural mineral springs that surround the villa.Magical sunsets of the wine country are viewed from this property.

What makes this villa unique

The quietness and tranquility allow you to be in harmony with nature. There are 3000 acres of private hiking trails that our guests can use .The property is magically located above the fog, allowing for fantastic sunsets and warm evenings. You are encouraged to drink and bath in the natural mineral spring waters. We are also happy to share our local knowledge of wine and vineyards with our guests.Often with a glass of our award winning organic wine.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a great stay that we had! Thank you so much for sharing this little paradise with us. The donkeys, the emu and the lama even made this an even better experience! We especially enjoyed the walks through the vineyard and your insights into knowing the wine country. The memories of drinking your Sangiovesse

wine will be a lasting memory. We look forward to a rematch of bocci ball the next time we visit.

Beautiful, calm and tranquil

  • 5 of 5

Many previous reviewers have described how beautiful this place is- the view from the terrace and swimming pool is simply amazing. It is up a track and a little way from the rest of civilisation so that you feel like you are far away from everything and on top of the world, but it's less than 15 mins drive to the main road shops etc.

Dan and Betsy are very nice people who are generous with their time and their space- we sat each evening to eat on their terrace sipping a glass of wine ( some of it made from Dan's vineyard and very delicious!) and watching the fantastic sunsets. They are on hand to answer questions make suggestions and sort out anything quickly and efficiently.

The villa has plenty of room and a great kitchen of you want to cook.

If you are even beginning to consider this as a place to stay you should do it- it is special!

Stunning Views & Vineyard

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for more from our time spent at Alpicella. Dan and Betsy were wonderful hosts! They made us feel right at home and we loved getting to know them and learning about their vineyard. The villa was a perfect retreat and provided us with everything we needed to relax after sightseeing during the day. The property itself offers a lot of options with its breath taking views, pool, hiking trails, bocce court and of course the animals! We cant wait to visit again.

Cannot speak highly enough of this property & overall experience. Dan & Betsy are incredibly welcoming - from the welcome sangria (made from their own award winning wine no less!) to their recommendations for tasting & hikes, and the friendly donkeys! This is a chance to truly get away from the hustle and bustle, a great base for some of the best wineries in Sonoma. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back to stay again.

Wonderful & Sublime!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time @ Alpicella!

The villa is sublime and the views incredible.

They’re on a slope facing west with the most

spectacular sunsets since Santorini!

Dan & Betsy are just so nice and friendly :-)

They're wonderful hosts who we now call friends.

Their animals were so friendly; I even fed a deer

right out of my hand!

We highly recommend this villa for all those that

want a true vineyard experience!

Romantic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I needed a little time from the kids (two days) was enough for us. We saw the listing in VRBO and thought "this looks perfect!"

Seriously, the property was all by itself and you felt peace and tranquility. There is a llama, miniature donkeys, an emu, tons of wild deer, and wild turkeys. The grapes from the vineyard are Sangiovese and are used in a higher end wine from Deerfield called Super T Rex. Very delicious as it is blended with a cab. The property is huge and you can take private walks, grill out, sit on your private patio, swim when in season, or even pick herbs from the garden for dinner (dan was wonderful about that). Dan and Betsy joined us for dinner at our request as we grilled overlooking the Sonoma Valley. We had the best conversation and really allowed my. Wife and I to relax without the kids and have some grown up talk for a change.

The cabin, for lack of a better term is two stories with the kitchen on the lower half and a bedroom, bathroom and tv room upstairs. The water used is from their own well and it outflows just above the house due to natural pressure. They also use solar but there are no restrictions to energy use so bring your computers (wifi is available) and phones if you must, and charge as needed. We used it as our base as we explored Napa, Sonoma, Alexander Valley, and Russian River Valley.

If you get a chance, grab some Super T Rex if you like Cabs and Sangiovese blends and possibly some hard cheese and watch the sunset from just above the vineyard. AMAZING!!
