Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6);Gulf view: mid-century modern decor
About Tony Akin
I have owned homes on the Island for over 25 years. Originally I owned a home on the west side of the Island, but I found (and a lot of our guests found) the west side somewhat isolated. I have lived in New England and in various parts of Texas, but I like Galveston for its history and for its moderate climate. I am retired from my original profession, and have made a second career of renovating historic homes and making art (painting and drawing). I try to think of everything that I would like in a beach rental home so I can anticipate the needs and wants of my guests, whether it is kitchen utensils, or quality linens, or overall maintenance of my home.
Tony Akin purchased this House in 2007
Why Tony Akin chose San Jacinto
There are very few cottages in the historic district which have a view of the Gulf of Mexico from the balcony, so when I first saw the house I was excited to find it. It's close to some of the Island's most popular restaurants (eg SaltGrass Steak House, Benno's, Gorditas, Mosquito Cafe, and Sunflower Bakery), best beaches (eg Stewart Beach, Poretto Beach, the East Beaches), and the historic Strand. But it's the view which sold me on this house--it's great to sit on the balcony with coffee in the mornings or with a margarita in the evening, watch the surf, and feel the breezes off the Gulf of Mexico. The location is perfect for couples, families, our LGBT guests, those looking for rest and relaxation as well as those who want to check out all that Galveston Island has to offer.
What makes this House unique
The view (see above), the totally updated kitchen, the colorful decor, and the ability to walk across Seawall Blvd. and be at the beach. We are a short walk to the new Galveston Pleasure Pier. We are about a 3 minute drive to the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), which is a world-renowned facility that includes a Level ! ER. Our property managers live 4 houses away so that you can be assured that there is someone nearby in case of an unexpected problem or emergency. We are in walking distance to many Island attractions, and can make suggestions regarding restaurants or other activities.

Great House — Great Location!
This is my favorite stays in Galveston. Property Manager is great — home is in a great location. It is comfortable and cozy.
Thus was a nice place to stay. Good location.
So glad you enjoyed your recent stay with us, and we hope you will let us know next time you are planning a trip to Galveston. Sincerely, Alan (owner)
Everything as advertised.
Extended weekend stay
Just back from 4 night stay in Galveston. This house is an excellent choice and would recommend it to all. Clean, managers are nearby if needed, and location are all 5 Star. Everything is provided. All you need to bring is your food but the temptation is to just eat out as good restaurants within easy walking distance. Will stay here again on our next “get away” trip to Galveston.
Hi Cheryl, and thanks so much for your review and comments. I'm so glad you enjoyed your 4-night stay and it was wonderful having you as our guests. We do try to provide everything in terms of kitchen utensils, linens, glasses, plates, flatware, etc. so that our guests do not have to bring much. And yes, a lot of our guests do like walking to restaurants, such as Shykatz for breakfast or lunch, Denny's, Salt Grass Steak House, Benno's for their Friday night all-you-can-eat fish fry, and many others. We'll look forward welcoming you back on your next trip. Have a good Labor Day weekend! Sincerely, Alan (owner)
Great place close to everything
Had a great time. Will be back. Thanks for letting us bring our dogs.
Thanks for your review. We love dogs and understand that many people want to travel with their pets. Since we are so close to the beach, our canine guests appreciate the extra walks along the Seawall and the Gulf. Hopefully you will be able to stay longer next time! Sincerely, Alan (owner)
Gulf view cottage
Loved the location—conveniently located to the beach. Easy to get to—a really cute place. It had a well equipped kitchen. It was perfect for us. Check in and check out was easy. One of the host met us when we arrived. The hosts were helpful and personable. I would definitely stay here again.
We are so fortunate to have Ron as our co-manager. He stays up-to-date on pretty much everything happening on the Island--new restaurants, special events, specialty shops, and more. It was a pleasure having you as our guests! Sincerely, Alan (owner)
Short walk to historic Galveston Pleasure Pier. Close to Island's most popular beaches, cruise terminals, Univ of Texas Medical Branch (Level I), Moody Mansion, ferry to Bolivar Peninsula, Strand shopping, and many popular restaurants and clubs.
