Texas Hill Country Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

This is a beautiful old Sunday House originally built in 1914 & lovingly renovated to someday be our retirement home. Since we can't retire yet we'd like to offer it to you as your home away from home in New Braunfels. House is in downtown area a couple of blocks from tubing, downtown shops & restaurants, Landa Park, Landa Golf Course, Hinman Park, Schlitterbahn (voted the best waterpark in the USA!), Prince Solms Park & the Tube Chute, the Comal River (shortest in the world) & plenty of other attractions. One of our favorite amenities is the classic front porch where you can sit for hours waving at the friendly people walking, running, tubing & biking through this quaint old neighborhood. The kitchen has been fully updated with granite counter tops & modern appliances.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were visiting from Dallas and we absolutely loved the house! We were here for my best friend's bachelorette party and we had a blast! Friday we made fajitas and sat out on the awesome patio. Saturday we floated the Comal twice!! Then we came back to the house & showered and went to eat at the Gristmill. It was delicious after a long day! Then we went to the Piano Bar which was a ton of fun. Thank you Mike & Diane for your hospitality. We enjoyed the wine, cheese & crackers : ) ! Your house is beautiful & we will be sure to recommend!

Great Location and Reasonable Price - Downtown New Braunfels

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this home with our two kids and two dogs in July 2016 and had a wonderful experience. Based on how clean and well-kept the home turned out to be, I don't understand some of the more negative previous reviews on this home's condition. The kitchen and bathroom have both been nicely renovated, and the home was very well-equipped (even had a full-sized washer/dryer). This home sleeps 4 beautifully, but more than 4 might be cramped (particularly considering that there is only one small bathroom). This house could not have been more conveniently located to tubing outfitters (walking distance to Texas Tubes), Landa Park, and Downtown New Braunfels. The surrounding neighborhood is well-kept with many historic homes. If it hadn't been 100+ degrees during our stay, we would have walked to Downtown attractions including the Railroad Museum, restaurants, and coffee shops in the Downtown Square area. If we come back to New Braunfels with our family, we will definitely consider staying here again.

Great family home in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed everything about the Market House. Very comfortable and relaxing for our family of five. Walking distance to everything we wanted to do. Will definitely book it again when we return to New Braunfels!

Cute but with a few caveats

  • 4 of 5

The property overall is cute, was the right size for us, and is in a convenient location. It's very near to the historic downtown area (i.e. also close to Schlitterbahn and the Comal river tubing put-in, but isn't in the official historic district - so the surrounding neighborhood is a mixed bag. The property needs a bit of work: the lawn, especially, is mostly weeds and overgrowth. The owners were super nice and communicative - great instructions. Didn't have any problems.

Owner's Response: Sorry about the lawn. We've had an unusually wet spring which made the weeds & bamboo take off & couldn't get anyone over to mow for a while. It's all taken care of now.

Great stay in a perfect location to historic New Braunfels!

  • 4 of 5

Market Street Haus was a great find for vacation renting in this area! The house was very comfortable with good beds, a wonderfully equipped kitchen, great AC and heat, and 2 TV's! Mike is terrific to communicate with and very prompt to any inquiries. The exterior of the house is just awakening from its winter and we're confident bushes and yard will be manicured soon. We were very happy to call this our Texas home away from our Indiana home for awhile.

Thanksgiving Holiday

  • 4 of 5

This vacation rental is a quiant, older home which is adequately furnished and supplied with necessary items. The home does have quite a few creaks and noises. The HVAC system works well. My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights and six days over the holiday. There is ample space inside the home and was quite roomy for the two of us and you could easily entertain some additional quests. The location is convenient to everything in this very small town which I grew up in. I do have a few critiques and/or suggestions for the owners. Both my wife and I suffered some type of insect or pest bites during our stay. We had all windows and doors closed throughout our stay. This might be due to several different issues related to the homes location, etc. (suggest treatments both inside/outside by a pest exterminator, etc. prior to renting out the unit). We were also very fortunate to stay over a long holiday weekend which I guess afforded us the opportunity of watching TV with numerous options i.e. Showtime, Max, etc. (free weekend maybe) which we discovered on our last day (Monday) were no longer available. (suggest purchasing a more extensive viewing plan for renters). There was also only one TV in the living room. (suggest installing at least another in the bedroom(s), kitchen, etc.? Lastly, but not least the hair dryer did not work during our stay (replacement is probably required). All in all a nice stay. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home.

Stay at Market Haus

  • 3 of 5

It was clean and we enjoyed our stay however the windows are not safe which resulted in an injury to my right hand. Also there was an unsecured drawer in the kitchen and when opened fell and came close to injuring my chihuahua. I expect the owners will fix these problems and cover any medical expenses we have from this and repair the issues for the next guest. We are waiting to hear back.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry about this incident with the double-hung window sash at our home in New Braunfels. For those who are not familiar with these windows, older windows like those in our home allow both the top & bottom windows to be opened. The weight of the windows is balanced with counterweights so they can be easily opened & closed. We kept these windows intact in our home because of the beautiful wavy, old glass. Unfortunately, if the sash cords that connect the windows to the counterweights break, the top window can drop when the window lock is opened. This problem is so prevalent that modern windows no longer allow this feature - most modern windows only allow the bottom window to open while the top window is fixed. We have screwed all of the top windows in place to prevent this issue while still keeping intact the old wavy glass. We also screwed shut the faux drawer / hot water heater port.

Notes:
Yes, the house has 2 front doors but this is NOT a duplex. The traditional 'Sunday Home' built by the German immigrants had two front doors. These homes were built by farm families that just came to town for the weekends to go to church & do their shopping. They'd rent a room to someone who had a job in town who'd maintain the place during the week. We've kept this feature intact for historical purposes. There are a lot of excellent restaurants, antique shops, bars & wine bars, etc available in walking distance downtown (2 - 7 blocks). Please call or e-mail if you have questions - this is a great location near downtown with lots of local amenities available! We love New Braunfels & are happy to share our experience with newcomers. We also enjoy running, geocaching & shopping at the outlet malls in San Marcos while we're in New Braunfels.
