This home is located in the heart of Florida's nature coast. Fishing and hunting are spectacular. The flats fishing in this area are some of the best in Florida. Trout, Redfish, and Cobia are especially good. The offshore Grouper bite is good as well. Scalloping is great in the summer.
This home is located in a very quiet area with little traffic or people. A large back porch overlooks a small lagoon. A perfect place to get away from it all and just relax. The house has a 'floating' dock that is capable of docking 4 boats.
A large screened in entertaining area below the main house is perfect for large gatherings. A full bath and kitchenette rounds out the amenities.
20 minutes from Perry and 10 minutes from Steinhatchee, Keaton Beach is a neat little fishing village on the Gulf of Mexico. Keaton has a full service marina. It also has a large 2 bay public boat with plenty of parking.
I am a dairy farmer by trade. My hobby is fishing. My family and I love to go the our home on the Gulf and go scalloping in the summer.
Keith Shiver purchased this house in 1997
I purchased this home due for an investment and due to its close proximity to my primary residence, it makes a great get away for my family and I.
The best attribute for me is sitting on the back porch early in the morning before anyone else is up and sipping my coffee. The small lagoon that the porch overlooks is beautiful and you can always watch fish jumping.
We came for our annual scalloping trip with another family. We found the house to be clean, comfortable and in a great location. This is a very special part of Florida that few folks know about...it is beautiful!!!
We had no problem getting out of the canal, it is too shallow at low tide, but an hour after you are good to go. We had a 19ft Whaler, and a friend had a 23ft Carolina Skiff. We have already booked for next year...that should say it all.
This is a great property, convenient for scalloping, and Keith is so nice to work with. This was the third time we have stayed there Since 2011. Being pet friendly was a must. We We're dissapointed tho, in several little things: no matteress pads on the beds had the bottom sheet constantly coming off during the night, lamp in the master bedroom with no switch to turn it on....why leave it there?, holes in the Screens of the upstairs porch....bugs can get in, one sliding glass door to that porch not functional, step to dock walkway gone, pool table has been moved from where it was last time making it impossible to play shots on the rail, it's also not level and only 2 cues have tips...pretty much what you do when your scalloping gets rained out, light bulbs burned out, etc.
So in general we like the place, but for top dollar paid there needs to be some nickel dime repairs done to make a stay more enjoyable.
We would stay there again, hopefully a little attention would make it great again.
The house is very spacious and enjoyable. If you wanr quiet ,it is. You can also find activities. The pool table was used a lot by children and adults. really enjoyed our visit
The rental was roomy but not up to the standards that I would have thought for the amount of rent. The kitchen equipment was basic , kitchen towels and other towels were in the dryer which I did not discover until leaving. The house is for sale so I do not think there has been long term upkeep. The owner was generous about having pets and we did have two dogs for one day. I would not recommend for elderly who may have difficulty climbing stairs. The area has limited rental accommodations Would recommend for guys hunting or fishing. .
My wife and I, and our two kids had a great time, thank you Keith. The scalloping was great this year, even though the water quality was below normal due to the recent excess rains. The house was perfect for our trip. Had to go slow in the canal with my 18' flats boat, but never got stuck. Very quiet area, even at the height of the summer scallop season. I recommend this house for a quiet, relaxing, fun vacation with your family.
Party of 8 stayed at this delightful home. It was everything as advertised. Our main purpose was to scallop, and scallop we did, bringing home our limit and the weather was very cooperative. Sea Hagg marina was very accommodating and right next door were the scallop shuckers if you wanted to save your fingers.
Other Activities: kayaking, boating, shopping, wildlife viewing
