About Hayes Hyman

I grew up vacationing in the NC mountains. I built this home to share my love of the mountains and nature with my children. From the coast to the mountains, and everything in between, NC has so much to offer. We built this house on the best lot I could find at the top of a mountain, and the primary purpose was to create the most incredible views of the mountains for the best porch-sitting ever. And then we furnished it as a true second home with the finest mountain decor. We hope you enjoy the sights and sounds of the mountains as much as we do in our lovely home!

Hayes Hyman purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Hayes Hyman chose Asheville Area

We had this home built as a second home because we love the mountains and the view. Day trips to the Biltmore House are always a big hit. The quaint mountain shops offer unique shopping experiences, and we love the awesome mountain golf courses nearby. This home is perched at the top of a mountain in a secluded location with incredible long range views, but yet it offers all the charming mountain decor and amenities required by our family. This location allows us to have a secluded luxurious home on the top of a mountain, yet all within a 15-30 minute drive from the golf courses, restaurants, grocery stores, shops, lake activities and much more. It's the perfect location.

What makes this cabin unique

You can enjoy the spectacular mountain view from every room in the house. The secluded location provides a tranquil privacy. You'll love the sounds and views of the mountains. Located at the top of a mountain, you are well above the city lights and far enough from the town to enjoy the secluded privacy, yet close enough to go shopping or enjoy day trips to places like the Biltmore House in Asheville or historic Black Mountain. We invite you to bring your friends along and enjoy a fun filled night in the family room while watching movies on the 'big screen' TV, playing games, or a challenging game of billiards or ping-pong.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the use of your beautiful home in Lake Lure. My folks loved it and the whole family had a great time. It was perfectly remote and perfectly close to everything. We couldn't have asked for a better location. We look forward to returning in the future!

Carolina Heaven is indeed Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our recent family retreat to Lake Lure was fantastic. Carolina Heaven is a beautifully appointed cabin on the side of a mountain with breathtaking views. From the sunrises to the sunsets and the mountains in between we weren't ever disappointed. The cabin was extremely comfortable and we could tell the owner, Hayes, took pride in building and decorating it. We had 15 people and were never cramped for space. From the homey bedrooms and relaxing great room to the game room and huge deck we felt right at home. The road up to the cabin was very scary the first time but it was so worth it when we arrived and saw the magnificent view. Definitely follow the directions supplied and do not rely on GPS like we did. Our trip up was crazy and we were in a F150. After "finding" the other way up it really wasn't a problem. I would not recommend a car with low clearance as you will definitely bottom out. We had one family member who couldn't make it up the mountain and had to leave her car in town. We always made sure we were up the mountain before dark as there were no lights and the road was very narrow with hairpin turns. The owner Hayes was very helpful and very quick to respond to our questions and concerns. We loved our vacation and believe you will too.

Owner's Response: Leslie and Jose, Thank you for those kind words. So glad you and your families from the top to the bottom of the east coast could meet half way and enjoy the NC mountains. I built this house in that spot to capture those incredible views. The ride up the mountain is a fun adventure, and the destination makes it all worth it. Please come back again and it will be even better next time.... I promise. Hayes

This cabin is absolutely beautiful. The view is AMAZING!! We had four families and had plenty of room. The cabin was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The trip up the mountain was an ADVENTURE! I was in an SUV and my uncle was in a large conversion van and we didn't have any problems. It is a long way up on gravel roads but it is WORTH IT! You really feel like you have reached heaven.

We were so very impressed with our stay at Carolina Heaven! From start to finish the owner was incredibly thorough and thoughtful regarding the rental agreement, directions, house rules, tips and places to see and visit. When we arrived, the home was immaculate, beautifully decorated with a bottle of wine on the counter as a welcome. This is not your typical vacation rental with furniture leftovers thrown together to make a bedroom suite. I felt as though I was visiting a friend's and everything you could possibly need was there - handmade quilts, beautiful soft sheets, clean fresh towels etc. We actually joked that we couldn't find anything wrong with the place. Someone would say, "You know this place could use a hammock and then it'd really be perfect..." And then 5 minutes later someone would stumble upon the hammock stored in the closet. Little things you forgot to pack like season salt was in the cabinet with a note to, "help yourself"! The rooms are situated wonderfully to give everyone privacy and we were all impressed that not one person heard the babies crying during the night. The pool table and ping pong table were great and the views were stunning. We had planned to go out during the day and site see but really, there wasn't much that could compare with just sitting in the rockers on the deck. The care and detail the owner took in his instructions and upkeep of the home left us so impressed and we took great care to continue that theme throughout our stay. The only bits of advice I would give, although neither were by any means a deal breaker or a complaint in any way, but truly just par for the course is 1.) the driveway per the owners instructions is not for a small/low lying vehicles. We were prepared because of his great instructions and had no problem with our midsize SUV and the view was every bit worth it 2.) You can tell the home is serviced or treated for insects but despite this several of us woke up with bug/spider bites that next morning. You are in a very rural area and it's been a very rainy start to summer so that might've just been a fluke. I'd just say to make sure you brought bug spray but there was already some in the kitchen cabinet! This place literally has everything you could need. We will definitely be back!

Best views in NC!

  • 5 of 5

We've lived in NC for 19 years and every summer we rent a house in the mountains. By far, this cabin has the best views of all. In fact, it is likely impossible to find better views anywhere in the NC mountains. You feel as though you are on top of the mountains, looking down on all the rest, nothing standing in the way of seeing it all.

The house is exceptionally well-appointed. Anything you would need to live up there is there. The kitchen is better stocked than my own kitchen at home! The house is large enough that our party of 13 was never cramped for space at any time, and the expansive decking makes it even more spacious. It is a gorgeous, spacious, comfortable home, with privacy and serenity galore, and the deck that goes along 3 sides of the house, just makes it that much more enjoyable and spacious.

The one drawback to the experience, depending on how you look at it (it was a fun adventure for some in our group), is the road going up to the cabin. We read terms like "intimidating" and "challenging". Some in our party called it "treacherous" and "terrifying". LOL But we braved the drive a few times during the week we were there, and it got easier each time. Those with 4WD vehicles had a less stressful time of it.

Because of the drive up to the cabin, and the distance to a town, we were glad to have brought all the food we would need for the week. We were glad for the things to occupy us up at the cabin, so the ping-pong and pool table was a treat. We also went to the horse stables down the road and enjoyed a great ride there one morning, which we highly recommend. We ventured into Asheville and Lake Lure a couple days, which is a good 45+ minute drive to each one. But none of us wanted to leave the beautiful setting of the cabin, enjoying the sunrises and sunsets each day, with coffee and wine in hand. On the last morning we were there, the three of us that were there to the end, just sat silently on the deck, overlooking the mountains and wishing we didn't have to leave!

It's a great place to unwind, but bring all the food you will need, because it's not just a quick trip to the store or a restaurant! We will definitely consider going back again, though probably not for a whole week, like we did this time. It would be awesome to see the colors of fall from this place.

Beyond breathtaking! Amazing! Outstanding! Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

As I sit trying to write this review, I realize there are not enough positive descriptive adjectives in the English language to adequately describe this cabin and its' owner; I'll try though.

- The cabin owner is the most cordial, accommodating, genuine, kind, knowledgeable wonderful owner I have ever dealt with. I have been renting cabins in western North Carolina since 1981...never have I met a nicer, more down to earth owner. He truly cares about his home that he so graciously allows others to stay in. He also cares deeply for the mountains and the area surrounding his cabin, thus he is a wealth of knowledge of all things available to renters and more than willing to answer any questions you may have.

- The cabin is absolutely gorgeous! To say it is clean is an's immaculate!

The kitchen have everything you could possibly need...and I mean everything! There is plenty of seating for everyone at each meal and lots of room for more than one cook in the kitchen.

Both the Great Room and the Basement Family Room have tons of seating and each offers a view of the breathtaking mountains just outside. The bathrooms are large and fully equipped with everything you may need and very, very clean. At the end of a wonderful day, everyone wants a good night's sleep. You are assured of that on any bed in the cabin - all are so comfortable and have high quality bedding for the ultimate night of rest.

- The view from the cabin is one of the best if not THE BEST I have experienced in 35 years of renting. You will experience not only a beautiful sunrise but a breathtaking sunset, as well. Due to the location of the cabin it has approximately a 320 degree view and every bit of it is.....well, let's just say....sigh producing. You will want to spend as much time as possible outside on the porches enjoying the scenery.

- If you do decide to venture down the mountain the town of Lake Lure is close by. The village of Marion is a short drive away and has many quaint shops and restaurants as well as grocery stores or anything else you may need. Asheville, NC is a short drive away and has fine dining, concerts, art shows in addition to the famous Biltmore House.

My personal choice....pack everything you want or need for your time at Carolina Heaven....and don't leave. I cannot imagine even wanting to go anywhere when you are already at 'heaven'!
