This casita is lovely, newly remodeled, nicely furnished and conveniently located in a building by itself with complete privacy. We are giving the surroundings special care and love this spring!
People have told us they love it because it is cute, comfortable, convenient, oh so clean and QUIET (but yet only steps away from our La Mesa Village commercial area where there is great coffee, breakfast, happy hour, dinner - whatever your heart desires!) and easy access to all freeways, making getting anywhere in San Diego a breeze!
Oliver's Place was completely remodeled in 2010, with upgrades added each year since. It seems more spacious than the average studio because of the vaulted, open beam ceiling. Many say the pictures do not do the space justice. Unexpected are the lovely open, unobstructed views out the spacious windows in 3 directions - to the hills of Mexico, Mission Valley and then to the highest peak in San Diego - Cowles Mountain. A new deck was added in June 2011 as well as a laundry room. Both add to the enjoyment and convenience of guests. 2012 brought more creature comforts: a new Ortho mattress, GE AC that works wonderfully in the hottest of weather, and finally, a new 42'' flat screen TV.
We are conscientious about protecting the environment. We use clean solar electric power and provide opportunity to recycle. Our gardens are lush and water is managed with a drip system. There is a wonderful deck for sunset relaxation and a ZEN-like Garden with swing for reading or just relaxing.
Hummingbirds and wrens and mocking birds visit the yard. There are hawks in the open sky and you can hear the clatter of large flocks of green parrots that visit the Eucalyptus and Jacaranda trees year round.
There is safe and lighted off street parking.
Just steps from the front door of this studio is the heart of the Village of La Mesa, an historic location known as the 'Jewel of The Hills' (click on the link below for La Mesa history and information). There are excellent restaurants, coffee shops, antique and specialty shops. Evenings are often filled with the sound of music from the local venues. The Friday Farmers Market bustles with activity year round. There is sunshine (the coast can be foggy), sunsets, hilly vistas and ocean breezes.
But you may be coming to San Diego for the famous attractions - the beaches, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Coronado Island, San Diego Bay and events at Qualcomm Stadium. All those places are 10 plus or minus miles away from La Mesa (check out the map) and the freeways that take you there are just a half mile away from the studio. The trolley is handy and provides easy access to downtown San Diego (see link for the Trolley service) and everything between! Visiting San Diego State University? The trolley is the best way to get there because it drops you right on campus!
Whether you are here to visit family or friends who live here or just to vacation on your own we hope you will make our vacation rental a part of your plans.

About Kathryn Boe
Long time La Mesa residents! Love to travel and love to use VRBO when we do travel. We are semi-retired - Geologist and Nurse Practitioner/Medical Anthroplogist.
Kathryn Boe purchased this Studio in 1996
Why Kathryn Boe chose La Mesa
La Mesa is (almost) always sunny! We find we like that quality as opposed to the fog that can be ever present right on the coast. So, living inland is our choice.
What makes this Studio unique
A personal space, made more so with owner's travel momentos, rotating art from the main house, pottery, antiques handed down in the family.

Studio in the heart of La Mesa
Thank you Kathryn and Bill for opening your lovely studio and garden to us this past weekend. It was perfect in every way from the view to the west and the garden to the east. One really doesn't need a car to stay here. You can walk to here from the light rail station that runs every 30 minutes from Downtown San Diego. The downtown area of La Mesa has everything you need in 3 blocks or less: coffee (Sheldons!), book store, boutiques, antiques, fabulous restaurants. If you want to experience Southern California without paying an arm and a leg, this is the place.
Thanks for the nice review! It always makes my day to know we have a place where people really can relax and enjoy! Yesterday we completed an extension on the deck railing to enhance the privacy to the north! Come back and see it!😊
Just right for us. Clean and efficient.
We will return.
We really enjoyed our stay at Oliver's Place. It was very comfortable and clean. Great location ..... we could walk to downtown La Mesa. Wish we would have more time to hang out there :) Thanks so much for letting us stay there. Liz
Thank you for your review! I love having new travelers visit us. Please come back and save more time for the La Mesa Village ! Great restaurants... several new in the past months...coffee shops and interesting browsing! Grocery ‘Sprouts ‘ is walking distance too.. 4 easy blocks to drive.
Incredible comfort with amazing views
We've just returned for our third winter extended stay aat Oliver's Place.
La Mesa is a welcoming place for visitors. We have managed without
a car at times and find so much within walking distance (bus, tram,
great restauramts. Friday market, library, etc.). It feels like home away
from our London home as we make our annual trek to visit grandchildren.
You can't find a better area in San Diego (and the deck helps with the
required sunbathing in an area which is usually a couple of degrees
warmer than on the San Diego coast).
This is a great location within easy walking distance to La Mesa's downtown shopping and restaurants, as well as a local bookstore that any reader would enjoy visiting. The bookstore includes a great selection of children's books as well as a great selection of sometimes hard to find literature. The casita is very comfortable with an outside patio and many amenities. The hosts are very helpful and friendly. We have stayed in many VRBO locations and we highly recommend this one to any one staying in the San Diego area. Ken and Kathie Powell
We love hearing back from our guests! Thank you for staying with us and thank you for pointing out some of the reasons you liked it! 🌺
Perfect La Mesa cottage
A pretty, eclectically decorated cottage perfect for two. The kitchen is one of the most well-stocked of any cottage we've ever stayed at -- anything you could want or need. We cooked almost all our meals in and always had what we needed. Bed is comfy, bathroom clean with a nice shower. The patio is lovely for watching sunsets and eating meals outside. The owners are on site and super helpful. The setting is private and walkable to town (to restaurants, Von's and other helpful stores). We loved using the bikes. Totally recommended.
Thank you for the nice review! We are glad the bikes worked for your little neighborhood forays.
Our landscape is hilly with twinkling night lights and great sun set views. You can see the lights of Tijuana to the south, some 30 miles away. Inland locations like La Mesa offer more sunshine during the cool months than do the coastal communities.
