2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 2-4

Enjoy everything the Berkshires has to offer from this beautiful, secluded, newly renovated waterfront cottage set on two acres of forested land. Perfect for families or couples. Swim, fish, or boat from the backyard. (Canoe and lifejackets provided.) Explore the stream that runs through the property. Picnic down by the water, or lounge on the deck. Make a fire in the firepit and eat s'mores. Or just sit down by the lake and listen to the sounds of nature while feeling the warm sun on your face. Very private--just one near neighbor. And if you want more activity, head to cultural activities such as Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Shakespeare & Company; Mass MOCA, the Berkshire Museum, and Norman Rockwell Museum; historic homes such as those of Edith Wharton and Herman Melville; outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, bicycling and hiking; and antiques and outlet shopping. 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, full kitchen!

About Djuna Perkins

My husband and I own this house with another couple. All four of us had long careers in education or criminal justice, and two of us are lawyers. We are also parents of both young and grown children, and dog owners.

Djuna Perkins purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Djuna Perkins chose Becket

Living in Boston, I missed the country I grew up in, and wanted to be able to recapture the country girl by having a foothold in the Berkshires. For my husband, it was the cultural attractions of the area. And for our kids, it was the lake and the wildlife!

What makes this cottage unique

We saw this house in the spring of 2009 and saw its great potential. At the time, the house was a one bedroom 600 square foot cottage, but it was on a beautiful, quiet piece of property with a lake and stream on two acres. We knew it could be paradise, and so we renovated it to add a second floor and take full advantage of the beauty of the land.

Peace and nature

  • 5 of 5

We had a beautiful, peaceful time at Djuna's place. It is so quiet, not even the sound of cars going by. Just a nice pond for swimming, a big yard, and a comfortable house. Like others have said, this is a peaceful refuge in nature . . . not a luxury rental. Djuna is easy to work with and very responsive if you need help. Her place was perfect for unwinding, and it's near Jacob's Pillow and the Lee outlets. Overall, just the pretty, serene week we were hoping for. Thanks, Djuna!

great week by the lake

  • 4 of 5

Our second time at the house by the lake. Had a great time with the kids. It's peaceful, serene, with a gorgeous view off the back deck. Had the lake practically to ourselves. Next door neighbors were only there one night, otherwise mostly alone. Kayak and canoes were great (could use a few more paddles maybe). This is not a luxury property; more like one's own home where not everything works right 100% of the time. Sat TV not that reliable; heat didn't work the first night; but Djuna and her team do their best to fix problems when the arise. If you need granite countertops and luxury service, or if problems like those get you stressed out and angry, then you need someplace else. But if you love nature, enjoy a calm still lake, and want lots of space for sunbathing or frisbee, then this house is mello, affordable and a great escape from the outside world.

Dream weekend

  • 5 of 5

This is my second time at this cabin, but not the last. From the moment you enter the scent of the wood stove fills the place, and that sets the tone for the rest of the stay. You get to enjoy the woods and nature, while staying at a house that still gives you all the amenities of home.

My wife and I were there with our two dogs. We were out all day every day swimming with the dogs, kayaking or just lounging on the balcony.

On Sunday we felt that the isolation was fun, but we wanted to see some more people for a bit. A 20 minute drive to the Lee outlets really did the trick.

To future renters I'd have some advice to make the experience perfect:

- If you bring dogs, get lots of towels with you. They will get wet and muddy faster than towels can dry.

- Bring a bug repellent. Learned that one the hard way.

- If you're on a diet, be ready to break some rules - the Sherwood Shoppe makes an excellent breakfast

Great quiet place to relax and think.

  • 5 of 5

I just wanted a quiet place to sift through life and I certainly got that. The place was great. The kitchen had everything I needed to make dinner. All you hear outside is birds. It's amazing. The pond and pier were very calming to be around. It was a great experience. Thank you!

Perfect for Us

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a cabin to spend a quiet couple of days indoors, and this place was perfect. It was cozy and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the fireplace was a bonus. Sherwood forest was adorable, we got a kick out of the idea of a Robin Hood neighborhood in the middle of the woods.we would definitely rent here again to experience the Berkshires in all seasons!
