My family and I love living here on the island we have raised our children here and now our grandchildren. We can not think of a better place to be in the world. We really enjoy the fishing, crabbing, kayaking, and biking the island.
We mostly love catching the fish and crabs then cooking them up for a fresh seafood dinner!!
Laura Johnson purchased this house in 1998
This was the home my husband was raised in. It was left to us , so we completely renovated it all new inside, and now rent it so others can enjoy our nice cozy home and see the way of life here as the watermen work on the bay and come in daily with their catches. What a great experience!!
Enjoy steaming your own blue claw crabs we get fresh daily off the boats at wholesale prices. Then cook them right in the backyard! In the fall you can buy oysters right off the boats. Then in the evening sit on the porch and watch the sun set over the Bay!
It was so wonderful and relaxing to be on Hoopers Island. It was so very nice of you to bring the live bushel of crabs and help us cook them in the outdoor steam pot. Thanks again for your lovely hospiltality.
We had a great time. The minute we walked in we were struck by all of the little touches showing how our hostess really went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The house is very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for family time. And Laura went out of her way to help us enjoy the beauty of Hoopers Island. We loved the wildlife refuge (so many beautiful birds), picking up sea glass along the edge of the water, roasting marshmallows, and the kids had a great time fishing. The house had everything we needed for fishing & crabbing. We also learned a lot about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. And, of course, we ate a lot of crab. Hooper's Island is a great place to get away from it all. It is so peaceful & idyllic. We'll never forget it.
My family and I stayed at Laura and John's lovely house for the weekend of the Eagleman triathlon. The Bayview House is an easy 25 mile drive from the race course and in a breathtaking area. The house was very clean and comfortable and the air conditioning was also very much appreciated. Laura gave us great recommendations including Emily's Produce (I got delicious vegetables and fed the goats) and Old Salty's. Overall it was a fantastic weekend and I'm glad we chose to stay where we did.
We brought our daughter and grandson to this idyllic location and enjoyed it immensely! Laura and John were super nice, very accommodating, and made sure we had everything we needed. They even had a child's pool filled with water for our grandson when we arrived! Grandfather and grandson had a great time fishing and exploring and I loved watching the osprey family! We would definitely recommend this location for anyone looking for a wonderful time to be together.
This past November I was looking for a private place to have my Birthday Party and this was it! My friends and I loved it. We Had plenty of room outside at the picnic tables to eat crabs and barbecue on the grill. We played corn hole and Ladder ball and had a great view of the sunset over the Bay. Inside the house was plenty of room for my friends to sleep and relax. I would definitely stay here again any time of the year .
Our family had a wonderful time at Laura's cottage. Everything we needed was there, including crabbing equipment, games for the children, plus, of course, a fully equipped kitchen. WE spent hours on the porch admiring the view. And the sunsets were spectacular!
The house is tastefully furnished, newly painted and very clean. Laura and family couldn't have been more accommodating. WE had a wonderful time and will definitely return.
Been staying w/ Laura for few years now. The house is beautiful, the location spectacular. We go down every year to hunt, fish and just enjoy this lovely home and pristine area. My family and I highly recommend. You won't find a nicer place or nicer people.
On the way to Vac.home be sure to visit Emily's Produce!!
Visit Blackwater Refuge 15 min. from home. Wyldlife trails, bike trails, walking trails.
