Blue Heron Cottages have been described as adorable, charming and nostalgic.
Originally built in the 1940's we restored our cottage #6 to create an oasis for your vacation, nestled on the beach in the classic beach town of Indian Rocks, where you can walk to many restaurants and parks.
Just recently we have replaced the kitchen and added granite counters, a full sized refrigerator and a new range, painted the interior, added new furnishings and of course we renew all our linens regularly. We also have added an HD 40' TV with Premium channels and we have wifi, there is a 32" TV in the 2nd bedroom too.
Guests return year after year to enjoy the serenity, the sun and the sand and most love to be away from the surrounding more commercialized beach vacation destinations.
Our cottage has 2 bedrooms consisting of a queen bed and 2 single beds, sleeping up to 4 people and we maintain it lovingly.
The kitchen has all one needs to prepare a feast however; we have some of the finest award winning restaurants on the Gulf Coast, including Guppy's, Salt Rock Grill, Keegan's, Crabby Bill's, The Pub and Villa Gallace. From family dining to seafood dining to casual sand in your shoes dining, we have it all within walking distance.
We supply a "starter kit" consisting of soaps, paper goods, 2 towels each, a facecloth each, a dish towel and a hand towel. There is a convenience store 3 mins away and grocery store, Publix, 2 miles away.
The grounds of the Cottage are impeccable and just a few paces along the shell path takes you to the heated pool with endless views of the Gulf of Mexico. Listen to the waves, the call of the gulls and marvel at the site of Dolphins playing and Pelicans diving for fish.
Indian Rocks Beach is just south of Clearwater Beach for those who want more activities and we are only 40 mins to Tampa Airport and short hops to many golf courses. Theme parks are all within 45 mins to 1 1/2 hours drive.
Founded in the early 1800's Indian Rocks Beach and developed mainly since the 1940's, Indian Rocks Beach is a thriving community that has maintained most of its original character, and supports a lively mixture of recreational activities. There are many annual events such as the popular Arts and Crafts Festival every November and April. and the Holiday Boat Parade where lighted and festively decorated boats will cruise down the Intracoastal Waterway.
Indian Rocks Beach has many parks and Kolb park is one of three Pinellas County parks to open a “skate park” which is located across the street from City Hall. Besides the skate park, there are other amenities such as tennis courts, a playground, and baseball field for others to enjoy. We also have a Nature Preserve Park with a winding boardwalk that will take you on a tour of some of the most beautiful natural settings along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Cathleen Shears is a Florida native and Tim Shears is from London, England. We have lived, owned and been involved in the community of Indian Rocks Beach for over 30 years. We live 5 minutes from the cottage.
Cathleen and Tim Shears purchased this cottage in 1996
It is our home away from home and we take care and pride in our slice of paradise.
Cute, clean and WE look after our own cottage. NEW KITCHEN, new furniture, new fridge, new exterior paint, new range, new HD TV with HBO etc, WiFi, we pressure wash all the tile regularly to insure cleanliness and we change our linens regularly.
I just wanted to let you know that we were delighted with the cottage. Frank loved it too. The saddest part was having to leave and the vacation-honeymoon was over. But I have a feeling we will be back. We had beautiful weather. It wasn't too hot and no rain. The sunsets were absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much.
Everything you need was available at the cottage. Very quiet and just steps from the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. My husband and I truly enjoyed our week. We grilled, cooked, swam, relaxed, shopped and walked the cute Indian Rocks beach area. Communication is great with the owners and we will recommend this cottage to friends and family!
We had a wonderful time! The cozy cottage was perfect for our family of three! Steps to the beach and very quiet, calm, and relaxing. The beach and water are just beautiful. Most days we had the pool completely to ourselves! We enjoyed eating at the Kooky Coconut and the Red Lion which are near by. We Loved our stay at cottage #6! With the Hurricane that had just passed we were concerned. Cathleen made sure to keep us informed and we had beautiful weather and a perfect vacation!
The property was extremely clean and I loved how it was decorated. This was our first trip to Florida and our first beach experience and we hope to make it a yearly trip. The families staying in the other cottages were friendly and it made it feel like a little neighborhood. The pool was nice and clean but we only used it once because the beach was so amazing. You can truly walk to the beach in under a minute and we felt like we had it to ourselves (not crowded at all). We ran out of toilet paper and hand soap, and had to buy lighter fluid, but stores were easy to get to. Owners were quick to email back if we had questions and recommended a great restaurant while we waited for the place to be ready for us, since we arrived early. My kids loved having their own room and tv and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. We miss it and can't wait to come again!!!
We LOVED Cottage #6. It was tiny and cozy and fit all of our needs. A family of four with two children, age 8 and 10 and it was perfect. We loved its close proximity to the beach, pool and restaurants. We walked to dinner and could easily walk back and forth to the beach with ease. It was fully stocked with towels, beach toys and supplies and had everything you need in the kitchen. It was very clean, very obvious that the owners and guests took great pride in this unit. Cathleen was a delight to work with and she maintained a great line of communication prior to and during our stay. We LOVE Indian Rocks Beach and staying in this location was the icing on the cake for our vacation.
We were once again fortunate to spend a fortnight in Blue Heron Cottage #6 and were completely satisfied by the the comfort, cleanliness and convenience of the this lovely cottage. We have been traveling to Indian Rocks Beach for many years because of the cordiality of the community and the marvelous beach. Having the comfort of #6 thrown into the mix simply makes the experience delightful. We will continue returning to #6 in the summer with occasional autumn visits contingent upon its availability. It is truly a highlight of our year!
Blue Heron Cottage #6 is a cute, super clean, great little place on the beach! It was a quiet, very relaxing week for me and my husband. The weather and beach were great.. we even saw dolphins from the beach!! Cathleen was easy to work with which made it all stress free! We will definitely be back! Thanks for helping us have a wonderful week!! M&L
