Quiet Lakeside Cottage
We had a lovely, peaceful weekend at Ava's Lakeside Cottage. The cabin was rustic and clean, and we actually liked the friendly spiders around (they stayed in their webs around the outside of the windows). We are sure they helped keep the rest of the bugs at bay-not one mosquito, which we were prepared for but didn't see! We used the fans in the cottage, and the temperature was perfect-not hot at all during the day and chilly at night. The lake is beautiful and we loved using the canoe to explore, including a little island in the middle. Beautiful lake views all around, and it was very enjoyable to sit on the deck while reading a book and watching the sun set. Just right for a quiet weekend!
We had a great time at Ava's Lakeside Cottage. I would recommend it to anyone who wants peace and quiet.
1.The layout is open and spacious. We were never in each other's way. (5 adults and 1 toddler)
2. The house is on a beautiful, quiet lake and the sunsets are unbelievable.
3. Though the houses are close together there was a feeling of complete privacy.
4. The house was very clean with no damp or moldy smells.
5. Do you like fishing? This is THE place for fishing.
6. You're 20 minutes from Saratoga Springs, SPAC, and of course ... the racetrack.
7. Overall, we 5 agreed that being there was very peaceful and calming.
1. Spider webs. Be prepared. We'd take them down and they build them back in one day. We never saw a spider by the way, just their beautiful webs.
2. You're pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There is one restaurant across the lake (which is great) but other than that, it seems like one needs to drive 20 minutes to get to a supermarket. Try and pack your own food necessities to bring along for your vacation.
Charming house on the lake❤️
Had a wonderful week at Ava's Lakeside Cottage! The lake is beautiful!
Beautiful place! Awesome fishing!
We wish we could stay longer!
Very Nice Experience
I recently booked pine tree lodge to do a weekend getaway with some of my close girlfriends. I would consider the drive to find pine tree lodge as "well off the beaten path;" however, with regards to scenery, it is in the perfect location. There are beautiful views of the lake and the sunset from the second floor deck/balcony (there is a larger deck on the first floor with a grill, table, and chairs). In addition, the lake is a very short walk down the hill. I was nervous at first about the heat, as we booked our stay the last weekend of July and there is no air-conditioning in the lodge. This was not a problem at all, the downstairs felt like it was air-conditioned even though it was not, the living room had two large ceiling fans and the bedroom loft has a ceiling fan as well, making the temperature very comfortable. The lodge was very clean when we arrived, slightly dusty in some areas, but you can expect that with a cabin in the middle of the woods. Overall our experience was great and our deposit was refunded within three days of leaving. Cant beat that!
Okay for a rustic getaway
We stayed two nights over Thanksgiving and had a really nice time. The cabins are all very close together, but at this time of year most people are gone. I imagine it would be bustling in the warmer months. The cabin was very rustic and hasn't been cleaned for quite some time (dust, cobwebs, etc.). The deposit was returned quickly, which I appreciate and the owners were good at communicating with us.
There are a few things I wish I had known.
The only bathroom is in the basement, so be prepared for steps. The gas fireplace pictured is in a mudroom with a loveseat in front of it, so it's not really a great place to hang out. We didn't use that room. There is a woodstove in the living room, but the flue was full and it wasn't usable. There also wasn't newspaper to start the fire and it took us a long time to locate the instructions because they weren't where we were told. The heating system had no instructions, so it would have been good to know there are multiple thermostats.
You'll need to bring your own:
kitchen towels and sponges (dishes are expected to be done and there isn't a dishwasher)
large pot, utensils, aluminum foil, etc.
wine glasses (there is one)
Also, the shower is a huge tub and is very hard to get into. Once you're in it's either a handheld showerhead or you must hunch down to be underneath. I'm 5 feet tall and I had to scrunch.
So glad that you had a nice time at Pine Tree Lodge.
We are sorry that the cabin wasn't quite up to your expectations...I assure you that the place was cleaned just prior to your arrival, however, it is a rustic cabin that has infrequent rentals at this time of year and many times within an hour after it is cleaned dust/cobwebs can start to accumulate, however, out of the hundreds of guests that have stayed there, you are only the 2nd guest to question the cleanliness of the cabin. There are sponges in the cleaning tray with the cleaning spray, etc. Not sure where all of the wine glasses went to(there were 6?) but thank you for bringing this to our attention. Yes, the bathroom is on the 1st level and the tub is a jacuzzi tub, that is why the step may be a little high? also the shower arm is adjustable?. no one has ever commented on this until now.
Just a note...take a look at the review from May 27th from someone that stayed at this very cabin!!! Nothing changed except the guests!!!
Thank you again for choosing to stay at Pine Tree Lodge
