About Richard Lewis

I am the CEO of a software company that has had to relocate to Ventura, CA. I came to Hawaii in 1987 from North Carolina and fell in love with the state and the island of Oahu. To escape the hectic pace of Honolulu I moved to Kailua in 2007. Kailua is definitely the best place on Oahu to live and vacation. Small town feel, safe, friendly people, gorgeous beaches, and wonderful weather. I am an avid Crossfitter and exercise enthusiast and love being outside as much as possible.

Richard Lewis purchased this house in 2007

Why Richard Lewis chose Kailua

This location is central to everything. Close to the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center, close to Kailua town and close to the beaches. It is on a nice, quiet residential street and is a large, 9500 square foot flat lot. I also love the privacy of the large walled back yard.

What makes this house unique

The house has high, open-beam ceilings and an open floor plan. The back lanai extends the living space out into the yard under the palm trees. The private back yard is great for sun tanning, grilling and playing volleyball or catch. I enjoy entertaining friends, using the outdoor shower and jacuzzi, cooking out and sitting out under the stars at night.

Great family home!

  • 4 of 5

My family of 6 (4 children) recently stayed here for a week, and we enjoyed every moment! The house is spacious and beautiful, and served us well! The kids were immediately enthralled by the nature of the backyard...(lizards), and quickly acclimated to life in Kailua. It was wonderful having a full kitchen and large dining table, as eating out gets expensive! It was exceptionally hot while we were in Hawaii, but the bedrooms cooled off quickly once the AC was turned on. The only disappointing thing was the fact that the hot tub was not working while we were there..(oh well). It didn't change the fact that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt right at home 6,000 miles away. :)

Very well kept

  • 4 of 5

We rented the Kamahele house from 7/5/17 - 7/11/17. The house is aesthetically pleasing inside and out, and kept very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable, and for me that is extremely important. Without a comfortable bed, sleep is elusive and what could have been a wonderful trip turns miserable fast. The house is placed in a convenient location for beach access and for accessing other parts of the island, such as the north shore & Waikiki. The location is far enough away form Waikiki and down town Honolulu though to avoid a good bit of traffic, but not too far you spend too much time in the car.

That being said the house could use some updates/fixes. The slat windows in the living room beside the tv do not close completed and a few of the screens do not secure completely on the windows. This allows little critters to get inside easily. There is no AC in the living room, which is fine when there is a nice breeze outside, but that is not always reliable. Some of the curtains need to be cleaned due to being exposed to the elements & humidity regularly as well as the curtain rods rusting. On a few of the windows in the house the Curtains don't completely cover the windows which does not block the sun from beating into the house and heating it up. An out door awning would help with that. When the living room is excessively hot it doesn't help the bedroom ac's to cool things down quite quick enough to sleep comfortably.

Even with the small issues listed above, we enjoyed our time in the Kamahele house and our trip to Oahu. Getting the process started to rent the house was easy and the owner was very responsive when contacted. I would recommend staying in the Kamahele house to anyone looking.

Great stay!

  • 4 of 5

Tips for your trip:

Don't let the rain deter you from your days activities.

Get up early and walk the sands of Kailua Beach.

Leave your pride on the lanai - you can't get out of, nor enter the water gracefully. We tried!!

Snorkel along the reef. If you can find fish food to buy, buy it and surprise the kids.

Kayak, anywhere!

Map of the island will aide in plotting activities and you won't up missing something new.

Do more than you ever thought you could.

Don't forget to put sunscreen on the top of your feet.

Sit on the lanai and enjoy the birds, the snails and the gecko's

We had a few issues arise while staying at the house. Richard was very easy to get a hold of and resolved issues quickly. Richard also recommended some great rental companies for bikes and kayaks. House was very comfortable. Accommodated three young adult females, one adult male and parents. Air conditioners worked really well. Nice to come home to after exhausting days. Beautiful yard with plumeria tree and fruit trees. If you can't find silverware keep looking. It's in a pull out drawer in one of the cabinets.

PERFECT vacation option

Grear location - next to the best beaches in Oahu. Great house - spacious, clean, nice backyard with BBQ and jacuzzi, AC equipped in each bedroom. Walking distances to shopping and variety flavors of restarants (and Starbucks of course).

Great Stay at Kamehele House!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to rent a house on Oahu, we generally stay on Waikiki. The family enjoyed this vacation much more without all the crowds, the proximity to the beautiful beaches, Safeway and restaurants across the street. The house has all the conveniences of home and more. Richard & Bill were very responsive to any issues. The town of Kailua is a five minute drive with all the shopping you could want. We all loved the backyard, especially the grandkids with all the nature and lovely fruit trees there. We will definitely stay here again! Aloha! 🌺?

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

I recently stayed at this house with my family. The location is wonderful, within walking distance to shops and restaurants and only five minutes from the best beach on Oahu. The house was great, very clean, spacious and homey. Backyard is beautiful with a great view of the mountain. The house is not in a tourist location which is exactly what I wanted. Would definitely stay here again!!
