WHAT WAS GREAT
-The view, the seclusion, the fishing, the ATV riding! My wife and two daughters (11 and 13), had a blast. The authentic cabin style house and the area (untouched by modern times) is exactly what we had hoped when we booked the place. I had skied in the area a lot in the 90s, but was looking for a remote and relaxing getaway in the summer that was less than 2 hours away from our home and this was it!!! There is an private home made ice cream place a few miles away, Arlo's Country Store and Tavern about 10 miles away (toward Elk Mountain, which is only 20 minutes away), and Chet's Place (great bar and great place to eat overlooking a lake) a few more miles away. There are a few other places to eat as well that make you feel like you are away from all the hustle and bustle. Just a mile or two away from the cabin is the center of town that has a supermarket in case you need anything, and a mile or two further is the speedway, they have races every Friday night on a dirt track. We would definitely return!
WHAT I RECOMMEND TO THE OWNER
-Would have been nice if someone met us at the cabin to get us "familiar" with the place and the land.
-Would have been nice to have some deck furniture (upper level and lower level).
-Looks like the place had not been rented in awhile, so would have been nice if the place was re-cleaned before we had arrived (lots of dead flies and spiders upon check in). Also, the refrigerator was turned off, we had to turn it on, and it takes a long time to get cool, not good when you are staying 2 nights, right?
The Pines Farms has a very nice cabin set on plenty of land for hiking and exploring. The property has beautiful views and is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle with family or friends.
The house is great and was clean on our arrival. Difficult to find in the dark and would recommend trying to check in before nightfall. Typical of a log cabin with great space and amenities. Flavio was easy to deal with. It snowed Thursday night into Friday morning, and when we returned from skiing the driveway had been plowed. Approximate 25 minute drive to Elk was a little further than we had hoped. Would recommend staying here.
If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the place. From the deck you overlook a vallley with few other houses. Log cabin feel with large dormitory-style bottom floor that could sleep 8+. Not much to do in the area except ski at Elk mountain 25 minutes away. One drawback is you have to bring your own bedding and linens. Owner was friendly to deal with.
My family and another enjoyed a long MLK weekend recently at this property. It was a little difficult to find in the dark upon arrival, but we quickly became familiar with the area during the day. Tip: look for the "Pine Farms" sign when looking for the driveway to house. The house was clean and well stocked for meal prep. Plenty of sleeping space and hang out areas throughout the house. There are some small town convenience stores about 10-15 minutes away but I would recommend bringing most of your supplies. We skied one day at Elk Mountain (about 30 min drive) and spent the other days enjoying the snow with our sleds and the frozen pond. Flavio was super helpful and checked up on us a few times. Take his advice for the back roads to Elk if you are going. We had a very nice weekend and would not hesitate to return. Thank you!
I was with my wife and friends in this beautiful farm. Very well equipped house, comfortable beds, barbecue on the balcony, excellent heating, ready for skating lake, near several ski resorts and mountain camelbak. Will definitely go back with my family and friends. Everything that is written on the website and truth. Enjoy the country life.
There is a nice slope to sled/snowtube between the house and the pond. There is approximately 5 miles of private trails in the property good for hiking, biking or ATV/Dirt Bikes. There is a 'rails to trails' nearby for biking, hiking and in the snow season you can snowmobile.
The Priesthood Restoration site is about 5 miles from us on RT 171. You can explore the place where Joseph and Emma Smith lived from 1827 to 1830 and where key events of the gospel’s restoration occurred.
Penn Can Speedway features stock car and 'modified' on a dirt track, Route 171, Susquehanna, PA. Friday nights at 7:15 p.m.
We are a short distance to Elk Mountain Ski Area (approx. 22 miles).
Other Activities: Kayaking, Boating, Snowboarding, Snowmobiling, Sledding/Tubing, Wildlife Viewing
Ski: Elk Mountain is 20 miles from us or 30 minutes driving
There will be absolutely no hunting allowed in our property.
