This large and secluded property holds 75 years of memories for the owners' family. Once operated as a prosperous working farm, it was sold to the current owners (a grandchild) in 1975. From 1975-2006, the owners rented the property to Vermonters while they resided and worked in Ontario, Canada. Now in retirement, the owners have decided to make the home come alive again and have completely updated and refurbished the interior and exterior. Operating both as a family retreat and as a rental for others, the property is finally getting the attention it deserves.
Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 1935
Nestled in a picturesque island community, the history of the Lake Champlain islands is rich and full of folklore. There are several historical sites, museums, architectural treasures and antique shops boasting local finds. Not many vacation properties have this much to offer: mountains, water, sunsets, vineyards, farmland, historical landscapes and tradition.
Premium skiing locations in Quebec are less than 30 minutes away, with at least seven resort locations nearby in Northern Vermont. Or maybe you enjoy relaxing on a screened porch, taking in the famous island sunsets from the front porch, antiquing, shopping, sampling the many nearby fabulous restaurants, visiting the many museums or sightseeing on the islands.. This page provides a detailed list of all nearby activities and sites.
My family, (seven in all) spent a week at this incredible farmhouse over the summer! I almost don't want people to know how wonderful it is, because I then will have difficulty renting again! It was exactly as pictured, (if not better), and perfect for a large group. We spent an enormous amount of time in the large kitchen, cooking, talking and having dance offs! My 3 boys loved the yard, and we felt immediately at home. It was filled with gorgeous, rustic antiques, but was so incredibly comfortable! Be prepared to spend time driving to large towns, as its pretty far north, but the views are breathtaking! We can't wait to go back!
My husband, two dogs and I just returned from a week's vacation, and had a perfect vacation for us. It was a perfect mix of quiet relaxation and sight seeing. The house is nicely decorated with antiques and feels cozy and comfortable. It really looks like the pictures here and on the website. Clean and everything in working order. All ammenities listed are accurate. The owner was very responsive to emails and accomodating when our deposit check literally took weeks to get to her! I also liked that there was an emergency contact person who lived close by in case we might have needed it. We chose to drive to the lakefront dock. It was fabulous! So peaceful and private. Our dog literally swam for hours! Just a note for dog owners who want to have their dogs off leash... even though there is a lot of property the house sits close to the road. It wasn't a problem for us, because our dogs are well trained and we were with them.
This is a great place for two people or family gatherings. We really want to come back and maybe next time with family.
This place is spectacular in the summer and fall. The screened in porch became my go-to spot to relax, enjoy the peaceful view and drink my coffee in the morning. The girls weekend where we enjoyed glasses of wine while sitting by a crackling fire also turned into a lively discussion about how our husbands could enjoy a private boat launch for fishing and guy-time. We are looking forward to a winter trip in the future so we can snowshoe and cross-country ski while enjoying the fireplace in the evenings. Close enough to all the scenic sites in Vermont while being rural enough to really get away and relax.
Ice-fishing in the winter. Several boating launch areas nearby. Marina and boat rentals in village.
Skiing in Quebec and Northern Vermont - 30-60 min drive.
