Anchorage Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-4), full kitchen

Imagine being surrounded by an acre of woods, fronted by a large fresh-water lake stocked with salmon and flocked to by geese and float planes alike. Imagine canoing in the early morning mist or hiking the nearby Coastal Trail along Cook Inlet. Imagine cross-country skiing in the brisk winter sunlight or ice skating under the Northern Lights. Realize it all at A Lakeside Bed & Breakfast.

Your private suite is reached by an outdoor entrance. Step into a large living room complete with sitting area, dining room, reading nook and solitude. A private bedroom and bath are yours, as well as a full kitchen where a self-serve hearty continental breakfast is made at your leisure. (We provide eggs, cereal, oatmeal, muffins, fruit, juice, tea, milk and coffee.)

Browse through the bookcase for your favorite book. Pop some popcorn, move the TV (with VCR/DVD) to your favorite corner and settle in for a private screening of a classic film from our library. Relax.

As cozy as it is inside, there's lots of activities available outside all year round. Paddle one of our canoes around Sand Lake, explore canals and search for loons and moose. Or go for a bike ride on the Coastal Trail and watch for breeching whales. Sit a spell on the patio and feel the peacefulness engulf you. No matter what month it is, A Lakeside B&B is always in season.

We're located on the shores of Sand Lake, eight minutes away from the Anchorage International Airport, 20 minutes from Downtown Anchorage, 45-60 minutes from Girdwood and Portage Glacier and the Chugach National Park, 60 minutes from the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. We are close to bike and world-class ski trails, a grocery store, dry cleaner, 10 minutes from a large shopping mall and movies theaters, 30 seconds from Mother Nature.

We are fully licensed with the state and municipality as required, inspected and approved by the Anchorage Alaska Bed & Breakfast Association.

About Ann Rittal

Ann and Tim have been long-time residents of Anchorage; Ann since 1967, Tim following in 1978. Both can't imagine living anywhere else! Tim enjoys fishing, hunting, and building things...he started with our redwood canoe, then built the drift boat, and finished an airplane years ago. He speaks Outdoors with ease. Ann loves to quilt and read good books, spend time with family and friends, and go to the theatre. She currently serves on the Anchorage Concert Association. Both Ann and Tim like meeting their guests of the B&B and traveling the world! They keep busy with their businesses: real estate referrals and consulting, the B&B, and Ann's marketing consulting firm.

Ann Rittal purchased this apartment in 1993

Why Ann Rittal chose Anchorage

We chose to build our B&B because we wanted to share our piece of heaven on earth with folks from all over the globe. We put in a wall of windows so you can see the lake and wild life at all times. We added a full kitchen to serve our guests who choose to spend a few weeks with us. With our long summer days, our guests are able to enjoy lake living to its fullest. In winter the lake provides a myriad of winter activities including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing.

What makes this apartment unique

They say if you happen to live on the water, you are blessed! We sure feel that way. Our guests sometimes run out to the lakeside in their pajamas in the early morning to capture a float plane taking off into the morning sun. Or exclaim to us that they just saw a moose, right out in the yard! They take photos of our hand-carved giant totem pole in the back yard. They swim on hot days, or paddleboat, trailing their hands in the cold water. As near as we are to the airport, it's surprisingly quiet and peaceful here. Some of our guests make our B&B their destination, choosing to relax and see Alaska from their front door. Whether it's for one night or three weeks, we're here for you! Please check our Availability Calendar on our webpage for the absolute latest update.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for such a beautiful place! I loved seeing and hearing the loons on the lake, and the planes taking off across the lake. It is as comfortable as being home and immensely nicer than a hotel room. We will definitely return here hopefully in the very near future.

Excellent choice for accommodations in Anchorage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I planned to be in Anchorage for four nights preceding departure on a tour of Alaska. We chose Lakeside Suite due to its beautiful natural setting and its price that is very competitive with all the hotels in town. We really enjoyed our stay at Lakeside. We toured the lake two times in the owner's canoe, shopped for groceries at the nearby Carr's, ate in town at Yak & Yetti and walked in nearby Kincaid Park. We could have just relaxed more at the Lakeside if our itinerary had allowed. Food for breakfast was provided each day in our suite so we could make it ourselves and get about our day. Breakfast selections included a variety of cereals, oatmeal, breads, yogurt, fruit and hard boiled eggs with coffee or tea - just what I would have eaten if I were at home. Owners Tim and Annie were very nice. Many of our companions on the tour spent their first night in Anchorage in a hotel or B&B in town or at the airport. I am glad we stayed at Lakeside Suite.

Too Many Hidden Unpleasantries

  • 1 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Lakeside Suite for one night. Annie was very nice and accommodating, allowing an early check in and late checkout because of our flight times. The location was great being near the airport, restaurants, and especially Kincaid Park where we nature lovers saw four moose! We liked the ability to explore our beautiful view, the lake, from our "home away from home", but it immediately did not feel like home, when we were fortunately told there was arsenic in the water and locking our car doors was very important in a seemingly safe neighborhood. A filtering system was in place as a preventative measure, however that did little to ease our minds about showering and brushing our teeth. Luckily we were only staying there one night, as the signage throughout the suite was a reminder of what not to do while there. We had a bed and there was breakfast, but nothing that made us feel like we were at a bed and breakfast. Unfortunately, there were simply too many hidden unpleasantries to recommend the Lakeside Suite.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your candor to my request for feedback. I’m sorry you found the seven placards and the information I relayed upon checking in to our lakeside suite unpleasant. Each B&B has its own intricacies and our intent is to be helpful in explaining our home’s systems to the hundreds of guests we’ve greeted over the past 21 years. While we believe we live in a safe environment, some precautions help make it so. All of our water is mitigated to be safe to drink and wash with (remember, we live here, too). Not every B&B measures up to everyone’s standards; we’re sorry you were disappointed. That certainly wasn’t our intention.

Pefect location

  • 5 of 5

The Lakeside Suite was perfect for our first few days in Alaska. It is a very peaceful setting with awesome views. Hosts Annie and Tim were very accommodating. Close to Kincaid park with access to the Thomas Knowles trail. Close to stores and downtown. We would recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet, convenient place to stay.

Comfortable. Cozy. Clean. Feels like home.

  • 5 of 5

A nice place to stay makes any vacation even better. Within minutes after our arrival we felt at home. Every familiar convenience was available. Microwave, refrigerator, dishes, a dining table and chairs, sofas, wifi and a huge wall of books, DVD's and more (great for rainy days). Unlike more sparse hotel rooms this apartment had character. It was like we had actually lived there a while. On a special note the bed is very comfortable. Add cold fall nights and it was difficult to even get out of bed in the morning! Our host, Annie, was fantastic. Very approachable and friendly, she helped us with recommendations, directions, equipment and more but also let us have time for ourselves as well. We enjoyed hearing her enthusiastic stories and experiences in Alaska. I cannot say enough good things about our time here. The view. The apartment. The host. We enjoyed it all very much and would wholeheartedly recommend a stay here to anyone.

awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

we stayed here two nights and wish we had stayed longer! it's very close to the airport, but also close to restaurants. unfortunately, we left early and arrived late everyday, as we were exploring beautiful Alaska, but we really wished we could have stayed longer and really enjoyed the place. it is a b&b, but you have your own apartment, including kitchen, right in front of a lake where you can go canoeing! the owners were extremely helpful and really nice. there is a private bedroom and a sofa-bed in the living room, sleeping 4 total comfortably. they leave you breakfast everyday in the kitchen, so you can eat it whenever is more convenient for you. really beautiful place, we loved it!
