About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8)

4 bedroom 3 bath 3000sq ft handcrafted mountain home w/ breathtaking views of Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands from the top of San Marcos Pass in Los Padres National Forest. Beautiful, peaceful, a hikers' and bicyclists' dream, with plenty of room for private time to read, write, enjoy the wild birds and animals, the garden and the panorama of Santa Barbara the way it used to be. 2 master bedrooms, with king-size beds, 1 upstairs, the other in the back of the house by the rose garden with its own entrance and deck. 3rd & 4th bedrooms with queen sized beds. Experience non-tourist Santa Barbara 20 min. from downtown, UCSB and the Santa Ynez Valley wineries (a great bike tour). Watch amazing sunrises and sunsets from 3 decks, a tiny, private patio, and a terrace 2500 feet above Santa Barbara and enjoy the sun when the city is shrouded in fog. Hike "Lizard's Mouth" and "The Playground" in the national forest, visit Painted Cave, fish and boat on Cachuma Lake, and dine close by at historic Cold Springs Tavern on Stage Coach Road.

Great location, hospitality, and views!

  • 5 of 5

Mike was a great host and the house is spectacular, perched on a mountain overlooking Santa Barbara and the Pacific. Every evening we were treated to beautiful sunsets. Definitely the place to rent if you are looking for a nice, quiet place to relax with some wine and a book. The bedrooms were comfortable, kitchen clean and well-stocked with equipment, and the appliances / HVAC / plumbing / Internet all worked fine; we had three couples plus a single person and everyone was happy and slept well. (There are some minor issues of water pressure, you can't have multiple people showering at once.) Choose your bedroom carefully if you want to sleep in, though: the master gets very sunny in the morning, while the bedrooms at the rear of the house don't. Can't wait to go back.

Loved our stay at this unique home with amazing view

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here for a nearby wedding. The house was so much fun we wish we could have stayed longer. It has so much personality! We loved the view, the decks, the hummingbirds, and the well equipped kitchen. It was great to have the family all stay in one place and have an after wedding brunch together. Mike was a great host. We hope to stay here again.

Great house in the forest!

  • 5 of 5

Michael was a very attentive and gracious host. The house was beautiful, fully stocked, and extremely enjoyable to stay in - plus it looked better than the photos. We thoroughly enjoyed the seclusion from the city and the wonderful views we were offered. The road up was a bit more narrow than I would have hoped for, but was nice nonetheless. It really felt like a home away from home and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Mountain living at its best.

  • 5 of 5

We spent the weekend of June 10-June 14 2016 in this beautiful mountain home to attend the graduation of our son, grandson, nephew and cousin from University of California Santa Barbara. The house has so much character and all of us fell in love with it. The views from the decks are amazing and the inside is well laid out. The owner met us there to show us around and he was very personable and told us to call him if we had any problems. There is a lot of history behind this house and every one in our group enjoyed our stay there. I would go back to this home anytime I am in the Santa Barbara area. Ann from Georgia

Car: necessary

Private Homes, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Area, Central Coast, California, USA (20 Minutes From Downtown S.B, UCSB and Santa Ynez Wineries) San Marcos Pass has recently been declared one of the most scenic highways in the country and has been designated as a national scenic corridor protected from billboards and commercial development. The drive to and from town is spectacular. Additionally, West Camino Cielo is the route of several 'cloud tours' from Santa Barbara, that bring visitors up out of the summer fog on their way to the Santa Ynez Valley Wine Country. The mountains are an amazing experience from another time. But if it gets too quiet, The Chumash Indian Casino is just over the hill.
