Perfect family house on the quiet side
We had a great stay at Seamist. We could walk to a harbor in about 5 minutes, drive to the lighthouse or to the Wonderland Trail (and its easy path to a beautiful rocky shore) in about 2 minutes. It was about a 5-minute drive to Southwest Harbor with several cute shops open, even in the off-season when we were there. There was easy access to several grocery stores.
The house had everything we need - was better stocked than most I've stayed in before. Robin & Marc were communicative before, and responded quickly to our only request while we were there (more gas for the grill outside). When Marc brought the gas by, he told us about the history of the house and answered all our questions about the area.
We had 5 people there - aged 13 to 77 - and everybody was comfortable. The stairs to the top floor (where 2 of the bedrooms and 1 bathroom are) are very steep, but there were 2 other bedrooms downstairs for anyone for whom that's a problem.
This charming cottage certainly added to the feel of the history of Acadia. -- wood floors, plaster walls, propane heat (which is really warm!), all added to the charm. Loved the location at Bass Harbor which is convenient to Southwest Harbor. The owners were very helpful in helping us acquire some local lobsters for a home cooked feast; it was fun and delicious! We loved that we were away from the crowds and traffic in Bar Harbor; this was a perfect location to enjoy our Acadia adventure.
Nice vacation rental
This was our second time renting the Seamist Cottage. We spent the month of September 2018 in the house. The owners where very responsive from the beginning of the rental process until the return of our deposit.
We love staying in Bass Harbor because it is on the island but it is more relaxing than the Bar Harbor side.
The house is well designed for family rentals. We had two adults upstairs and two adults downstairs which made nice private get ways for each family. The sofa and chairs in the living room have broken springs and are dirty. The owner needs to replace them so that renter have a comfortable place to lounge.
Nice, Pleasant Stay
We stayed a week and had a nice time. Seamist is a nice, old house with plenty of room on the quiet side of Mt. Desert Island. There are no tubs--only two stand up showers--which was a little challenging with little ones but otherwise I would certainly recommend this place. And the owners were responsive and pleasant both before and while we were there!
Adequate but not impressive
Cute place. Cottage feel. Older and musty. Sticky. House is very close to busy road. Great porch.
Nice historic home with a well stocked kitchen and plenty of bedroom space for our family of 7
Owners were very responsive and took care of all our needs. Plenty of towels, beach towels and even four camp chairs and an umbrella. Good place for a family that’s into exploring the island. Loved being on the quite side of the island. We mostly hiked on the awesome trails of Acadia but when we went to Bar Harbor it was an easy 30 minute drive. Good groceries and eating options nearby the house. Best place we ate was Mainely Meat which is located at the Atlantic Brewery so they have great beer on tap.
Bass Harbor, located on beautiful Mount Desert Island, is the perfect base to explore all of Mount Desert Island's Villages and Acadia National Park. The Seamist Cottage is located on the Island Explorer Bus Route which stops in Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, and numerous places in Acadia National Park. You can get on & off the bus directly in front of the Seamist Cottage making getting around the island enjoyable and stress free.
We are minutes from the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Wonderland and Ship Harbor Trails of Acadia National Park. Echo Lake Beach is a 10 minute drive. The Park Loop Road, with access to Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, Thunderhole, Asticou Gardens is a 20 minute drive.
Dining and shopping in the picturesque setting of Southwest Harbor is just 3 miles away and historic Bar Harbor is 17 miles.
