About Christine Barker

I've enjoyed a diversified life with careers in Environmental Science, entertainment, real estate and design. I live in New York but grew up in Canada and Bermuda, two wildly different climes! When it comes to property I tend to prefer the extremes....extreme country, or extreme city, and that's one of the things I love about Woodstock. It's less than two hours from New York City, but it's a million miles away with respect to it's ambiance, culture and attitude. Woodstock is a fabulous combination of getting away from it all while still having plenty to do.

Christine Barker purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Christine Barker chose Catskills

Serenity and Privacy. Secluded yet not isolated. Just perfect! It has so many unique features, which include a claw foot tub located in front of the gas burning stove. Take a soak whilst enjoying beautiful wooded scenery. A spacious bedroom with writing desk (and even a typewriter if you want to feel inspired). An outdoor desk with grill and plenty of room to just relax.

What makes this cabin unique

Hike the amazing Overlook Mountain just up the road! Visit or hike up to the world-renowned largest traditional Tibetan Monastery in the US built into the mountainside.

Take a bike ride along the winding creeks and back roads, or explore the colorful local farmers and flea market in the center of town.

Find the numerous swimming holes around the area. This really is a year round escape, enjoy the wonderful fall foliage and enjoy skiing in the winter months.

Spacious, peaceful Zen Cabin in the woods

Very cozy!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time during the week we stayed at this cabin. Great customer service: There was an unexpected snowstorm, and the property manager Susanna was SO NICE offered to shovel snow for us, which wasn't necessary. It was clean, the bed and couch were comfortable, the shower had great water pressure, there were cozy blankets, the heat worked well. The cabin is beautiful and tucked away on a quiet lane so that our dog could play in the yards and driveway without a leash. The location was fantastic because it felt like getting away from the city but we were also close enough to Woodstock that we could easily run in for a yoga class, dinner, or grocery shopping. I would totally recommend this — the only thing I think could be improved on a little is the kitchen. Granted I'm a super avid cook bc I write about cooking for a living, but I think that a couple of the kitchen appliances and tools could use an update, like the toaster oven and the cookware and bakeware. Also I'm not sure if this was in the write-up, it probably was and we just didn't notice, but note that there is no full-sized oven, only the toaster oven, and the electric range only has two burners, but they totally work. We cooked many nights and it was just fine. Thanks again!!!

Lovely Stay in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is true to the description - roomy and comfortable for 2 people, thoughtfully decorated, and in the woods but pretty close to town. The property manager was very responsive and accommodated a special request. We had a great time hiking, enjoying the dining places in town, and coming home to a quiet, restorative environment.

Romantic Cabin in Woodstock

  • 5 of 5

I was really looking forward to this getaway, never having been to Woodstock. I never imagined this adorable, rustic cabin in the woods would have a beautiful deer and 2 bunnies upon arrival. Centrally located to downtown Woodstock, we ventured into Saugerties for dinner at Red Onion (ok) and Woodstock for yummy breakfast at Oriole 9 (great) and New World Cafe for dinner (superb). The tub in the main room was actually very welcome - nice view of the woods and a fun nighttime bath. The futon was very comfy and the bed was fantastic. Lovely artwork and very nice, hot shower. Thanks for a great couple of days!! We will be back!

True to it's description of "Peaceful-Zen-Cabin in the Woods"

  • 5 of 5

The drive there was beautiful with the foliage. My husband and I booked this for our anniversary. The tensions were dissolving as we soaked in the beauty of our surroundings. As soon as we arrived to the cabin and walked in we felt such a calm reside over us. Everything in the pictures and the description was even better in person. Everything you needed to make the stay more comfortable was within reach. You felt as if you were far away from everything yet all the conveniences and charm of the town was only less than 2 miles away! We had planned on getting out to hike and explore the area more but the tranquility of the cabin lured us to stay in and just gaze out the windows with the beautiful fall leaves. It truly was a zen place to be!!!
