We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful home. Midwestern branch of the clan was in the area for a family wedding at nearby Mineral Springs Resort. This house is roomy and comfortable and the best-supplied of any vacation home we've rented. Views of the lake from the enormous great room are spectacular. Alas, the weather did not cooperate (it rained nearly the whole week) so we didn't get to enjoy the lovely grounds and lake much, but the paddle boat did get out for a few spins. We played games, watched movies and cooked together and it was a great reunion. Kitchen has everything one might need to feed a big group. The French press made great coffee, but if you have a bunch of coffee drinkers you might want to bring a larger pot. Also, FYI, the crib is set up in the Master br and stays there or in the huge closet, if not needed. This required that we rearrange our sleeping plan a bit. The home was very clean and well-furnished. Working with owner, Katy, was a pleasure. She was helpful and quickly responsive to all inquiries before and during our stay. WiFi worked perfectly for all of us. Highly recommend this property.
We loved every second of our stay at this beautiful lake house! We spent the weekend with a group of our friends and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. We felt so cozy and warm and wish we didn't have to leave. The views of the lake are simply gorgeous, we couldn't get enough of the picturesque view. The lake house itself is stunning and beautiful. We absolutely loved our stay here and are so happy that we all spent the weekend here. The lovely owner Katy, was always very helpful with any questions we had and very accommodating. We hope to come back here soon, hopefully when it is warm! We highly recommend this beautiful home, where you can escape and relax and feel peaceful and right at home. :) -Jane
My parents recently downsized now that all of us children are grown. We rented this home for Christmas so that we could all be together. It was amazing. It was far enough away from town that it felt like a getaway but there was a local general store around the corner to pick up milk and such. The home did not “feel” like a rental. Everything was really well cared for and comfortable. The bedrooms have more blankets then you will ever need. The kitchen is fully stocked with top of the line appliances. We cooked two large meals and had everything we needed from utensils, to serving trays, to holiday themed placements. There were small Christmas decorations around the home which was a nice touch. The dining room/eating area was large enough to accommodate my entire family, their significate others and friends of the family. There was enough table space and chairs for us to all sit down and eat together. The common space of the home is HUGE with plenty of small seating areas so that you could be around everyone else but still feel like you had your own space. I have a toddler and was shocked that they had a closet full of toys and even had a bin of bath toys in the linin closet. The upstairs loft worked out well for my siblings are still in college. The room had its own TV and plenty of kids’ books, toys, and movies. The view of the lake was just beautiful. We did some fishing and caught lots of fish. My brothers took the kayaks out and my dad and sister took the canoe to an island and fished. The weather was surprisingly warm for December. The home had only one bathroom on the main floor. The other full bathroom is in the master. We don’t mind sharing so it wasn’t an issue. The one bedroom door did not latch all the way but that’s what you get if you want the charm of an old home. It was easy to keep an eye on my toddler with such an open floor plan but the windows go all the way down to the floor. Makes for a great view and lots of natural light but I would have been nervous to have them open. Lucky for me we were there in the winter.
This house was wonderful! We stayed for a three day weekend at the end of September 2014 and everything was great. The house itself is absolutely beautiful as is the property and the views of the lake. Everything you could possibly need or want is here – we did not leave other than one trip to the A&P! We stayed with our three young children and there was so much for them to do. The bunk bed room was great for them with lots of fun books, puzzles, etc. The boats and kayak were a lot of fun and there were life jackets in any size you could possibly need. The nearby small beach was lovely and we also enjoyed the beach and playground by the clubhouse just across the lake.
We especially enjoyed the very well stocked gourmet kitchen. Any kind of pot, pan, baking item, or kitchen utensil you could possibly think of was there. That made it feel very home-like and easy to stay a long time! Katy, the owner, was very helpful and pleasant to deal with – we are thankful to her for sharing her beautiful home. We will definitely come back here!
Where do I even begin... First let me say that I am not new to Highland Lakes. My family has been visiting this lake since my grandparents honeymooned there 60 years ago. I grew up spending my summers on this lake and can tell you it is one of the best kept secrets of NJ... Anyway, after an unfortunate series of events, my grandparents lost their house on this lake and I was forced to look for an alternative- this is when I found Katy on HomeAway. This year will mark the 3rd year I've rented Katy's house for my family and all I can say is wow. The house, the property, the amenities, all of it is just perfect. Katy is phenomenal. She really does go the extra mile to make everything perfect. Need an example? Let me tell you one... So the first year I rented, I told Katy how I used to fish all summer with my grandfather on this lake and how I couldn't wait to do it again. Katy responded and gave me the unfortunate news that she didn't have a fishing boat at the house, only kayaks and a paddle boat... I was sad to hear it, and I guess she noticed because a week later I got a message from Katy that she had bought a fishing boat and motor, and that it would be at the house waiting for us when we got there! Talk about hospitality!! I knew right then she had a customer for life! So back to the house... It comes fully stocked, and I mean fully stocked.. You will want for nothing, period. The back yard is large and the sitting area near the water is excellent for relaxing with friends and family. The house sleeps a LOT of people and the dining room will seat everyone perfectly for that big family dinner you know you'll want to have. I could go on and on about this house, but I think you get the point- It's perfect. Do yourself a favor and spend a week here, you'll become a lifer like me after you do!!
With a terrific location, beautiful home, and an owner who simply could not be more friendly or accommodating, what more could you ask for when you book a vacation home based on photos on the internet? This home is a treasure where family memories are built. Our grandchildren have learned how to fish (and cut bait), how to hike the woods in the fall, how to tube and sled in the winter, how to sing around the campfire, and how to be sung to sleep with tales of adventures on Blueberry Island.
We began renting this house about 4 years ago and now arrive with our family (9 of us plus the occasional visitors) 3 or 4 times a year for both short and long stays. We have never been disappointed.
The house is beautiful and always in immaculate condition when we arrive. If you tire of looking at the spectacular views of the lake, there is a great deal of fun to be had in the area: Pennings, The Highland Lakes General Store, Mastodon Ammo & Camo, Breakneck Road, Crystal Springs Resort, a drive-in movie theater in Warwick, NY, (Hurry while it lasts!), Waywayanda State Park, you can walk part of the Appalachian Trail and visit other little known secrets of Vernon, NJ and Warwick , NY.
But in the end, just have a meal at the massive dining room table, with a fire visible at one end of the great room and the sunset visible from the other and you will never want to leave. Ever! The owners have provided a jon boat (with electric motor) a canoe, a paddle boat, and two kayaks, plus numerous tubes, sand toys, life vests etc. There are large and small mouth bass, pike, pickerel, sunnys, blue gills, perch, and catfish anxious to be caught and released. You can’t go wrong! Your children and grand children will remember it for a lifetime.
