This is a new craftsman Tahoe style house on a sunny cul-de-sac lot on the water! When they raise the lake level for the summer Donner lake extends up the creek past our property allowing kayaks and small boats to access the creek. The house is over 3,000 square feet and is perfect for large family gatherings or getting together with friends. It sleeps 14+ people in beds and futons and has 3 1/2 BATHROOMS (that's important)!!! Bring three families and share the expenses.
For downhill skiers, the house is two miles from Sugar Bowl or Donner Ski Ranch and four miles from Boreal. Northstar, Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows are about 20 minutes away. Soda Springs Mountain Resort is 4 miles away and designed for young kids and families. Royal Gorge, the LARGEST cross country ski resort in North America, is four miles away. In the late spring, summer, and fall, there is boating, hiking, fishing, and lots of biking -- something for everyone. Donner Lake is a short paddle down the creek in one of the FOUR KAYAKS (two doubles and two singles) provided.
The first floor is very rustic and warm with vaulted, open beam trussed ceilings, wood floors and lots of windows with views of the creek. It has a 'great room' style living room with a granite fireplace, a large screen cable TV with surround sound, a Play station 3 with Blueray DVD. The dining area has a table for 10, and fully furnished kitchen with granite bar and TWO refrigerators for those large groups; a master bedroom has a king-size bed, fireplace, TV, Jacuzzi and master bathroom; a den with a queen size futon, and computer desk and printer, WIFI, a mud / laundry room with stainless steel fish cleaning sink, (laundry soap and fabric sheets are provided); and a half bath. Hydronic heat in the floor keeps the house cozy warm.
The second floor overlooks the great room. It has two large bedroom suites with their own bathrooms. The creek view room has a king and queen bed. The mountain view room has a queen bed, and TV. The second floor has a balcony, a recliner and its own stairway exit.
The third floor is a huge loft with clear story windows and views of Donner Peak. Two double bed futons and lots of room for blow up beds provided. Playstation 3.
LINENS ARE INCLUDED for all beds and futons.
We have a sunny front yard and a shady back patio with a gas bar-b-que and two tables and chairs for 12, The double car garage has SLEDS as well as places to store your gear. The house is on a road that is plowed well and often. There is off street parking for five vehicles. A snow service keeps the driveway clear of snow. An emergency generator comes on if power is lost and keeps the heat, hot water, and critical lighting on till power is restored. You may have cold neighbors visiting, for hot coffee, and chocolate.
We love our house and look forward to our own family gatherings. We really enjoy sharing it with other families and absolutely love hearing about their visits. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

I am an architect and always wanted to design our dream home on the water for our families to vacation together comfortably. The home has 3 master bedroom / baths.
Rick Harper purchased this house in 2008
we have vacationed on Donner Lake for years and have designed our dream home on the creek and sunny level site in a new Donner Lake Woods custom home area.
We enjoy barbequing on the back patio overlooking the creek while our grandchildren kayak, fish and play there.
I had a HS reunion for 9 active women for our 70th birthdays. We live all over the USA. The night before the Reunion my husband and I
stocked the refrigerators and tried to figure out how the house worked. The lights for the great room are on a panel of twelve high tech switches.
It took my husband (a retired electrical engineer) 45 minutes to figure out the system. The descriptions in the "Help Manuel" were extremely poor. Another 45 minutes was spent on the TV, with the cable not working and the TV asking for a PIN number that was not available to us. The left lower door on the TV center has a broken door. The dining room light (over a nice, big but poorly maintained dining table) had 6 bulbs-one was missing, one was burned out, one was an LED bulb and the other 3 were soft pink bulbs. We replaced 2 bulbs for the Reunion. One of he outside entry lights (2)was burned out-we replaced it with a CFL bulb. The light under the microwave is burned out. The lock on the back sliding door is broken and very difficult to lock. Even the can opener is rusty and non -workable.. ACCOMODATIONS:The first floor futon had no bedding (a velvet curtain and child's sleeping bag in the box labelled "futon bedding"). I had to go to my cabin and get bedding for that guest. The beds are poorly laid out-need queen bunk beds, or Q bed and twin in each room, third floor is also used for storage. Some rooms have no dresser or closet for storage. Some of the linens are worn.
When my guests arrived we could not get on WI-FI per the listed system and PSW. My husband figured out their were two routers, and the one listed was inactive. Their was no new system or PSW listed in the "Help Manual". Mr. Harper apologized - they "got a new router the week before I arrived". It would have been a major debacle (!!!!) if my husband could not have gotten us on the Internet as several women needed to stay in touch with their families, not to mention their emails.
MR HARPER: You appear to be a nice man and your home is beautiful. It is very poorly maintained. You need a property manager who comes in after each guest and goes over each room, the lighting, the doors, linens and the TV system. You need to re-arrange and purchase some new linens, beds and dressers. You cannot use the guest rooms for storage. The refrigerator needs to be cleaned out after each guest (I do not want half used bottles of food). Most of all I believe their is no emergency phone # and the only way is to email you!
Thank you so much for letting us use your beautiful cabin. We brought our adult children & friends up for a week of fun in the water and were thrilled to be able to use the kayaks so we could all go out on the lake together - which we did EVERY day. We brought our own paddleboards and kayak which were easy to launch off the empty lot as the water in the creek was going down at this time of year. The cabin is really gorgeous - loved the Master suite w/tub and the kitchen was so much fun to cook in - had everything we needed - and we especially appreciated the birdhouses & artwork displayed around the home. We played games at the large table, hiked through abandoned Train Tunnel #6 at Donner Pass and up above Glacier Way trail for an awesome view of Donner Lake. The setting is really pretty and mostly private, with room for everyone in the main room. This home is great for families with kids as the upstairs baths are in the 2 bedrooms. The owner is very responsive & helpful when we had a question - Would LOVE to come back!!
Great house for family vacation. We spent a week and had a great time. The house is beautiful and well supplied. Owner was very attentive to email communication. Would consider renting again in the summer.
We had a wonderful time in a beautiful & comfortable home, in a lovely area. I brought my adult children & two young grand sons to enjoy the snow, as my husband had wanted us all to do. We played, we healed & we spent time together. Our only recommendations would be to know that the house is incredibly close to a neighborhood sled hill (we had so much fun!) and the crib pictured is not in the home. There is an agency in town where we were able to order & receive the needed crib within 90 minutes though, so problem easily solved. We're excited to return next year!
This house was perfect. Plenty of room for everyone, including the kids. The house was clean and bright with views of the mountains and the creek in the backyard. Very close to Donner Lake and Sugarbowl. Truckee was also a short drive away. Winter stay was perfect. We hope to come during the summer season to use the kayaks!
A great house for a big group. The kids loved all the space, loft, toys and sleds. The adults really liked being so close to Sugar Bowl. The neighboring houses are close by but it has a pretty spot on the creek. You can tell that it is a well loved vacation home. The owner is great to work with. Very accommodating and prompt communications.
Lake level extends to property in summer for launching the 4 kayaks from the back yard.
