House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

Beach house on a quiet, secluded Beach in Fort Morgan area of Gulf Shores. No busy commercial congestion or large condominium complexes. Relax on the covered deck with excellent views of the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay or enjoy the swing and picnic table located under the unit. Spend the day just steps away on the uncrowded white, Sandy Beach. Find shells, watch for porpoises and swim in the clear blue waters of the Gulf. It's a short drive to several great Golf courses, or Shopping in Gulf Shores and the Foley (Tanger) Outlet centers. Dine at local favorites Sassy Bass a local favorite, Behind the Pines great hamburgers, 'Lulu's' owned by Jimmy Buffett's sister Tachy Jacks less than a mile from the house, Papa Rocko's for pizza and many more. Close to the house is historic Fort Morgan, or take an easy hike in Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.

A bargain hunting trip to Tanger is a wonderful family activity. Tanger Outlet Centers have something for everyone. Your family will discover everything from the latest brand name fashions and accessories to home décor, books, music CDs, toys, outdoor gear, and much, much more. After a day of outlet shopping, everyone will have fun comparing all of the great deals they found

At the west end of the Pleasure Island peninsula are the remains of Fort Morgan. One of the two forts that protected Mobile during the Battle of Mobile Bay, the Fort dates from 1812. A museum offers displays of Civil War artifacts, and tours reveal the history of the fort from the War of 1812 until its final closure by the Army in 1946. On the beach, visitors will find cannons gazing out to sea. After touring the fort, there are opportunities to stroll the white beaches, swim, fish or crab, shell hunt, and sunbathe. This spot is a favorite with birdwatchers, who have been known to make rare sightings of migratory birds. A marina, golf course, and lodging are all nearby. The first week in August the fort hosts its major annual event, the Civil War Living History Encampment.

Recreate among endangered species and migratory birds. Over 4,000 acres of beach dunes, scrub dunes, fresh water marsh, salt water marsh, and Maritime forest make up the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge just west of Gulf Shores. This coastal Refuge is part of the Central Gulf Ecosystem Unit and provides refuge for the endangered loggerhead sea turtle, the endangered American alligator, and the rare gopher tortoise. Part of the migration route of the monarch butterfly, the Refuge is also known for its more than 120 species of birds - making it a paradise for bird watchers. Along with birding, the refuge offers opportunities for hiking, swimming, photography, collecting sea shells, and boating. Fishermen enjoy both fresh and saltwater fishing.

Ride the auto ferry to Dauphin Island for a tour of the SeaLab and historic Fort Gaines.Birdwatching and sunbathing are two of the favorite activities on this island paradise. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary, at the east end of the island, extends over 164-acres of maritime forest, marshes, and dunes. A campground and hiking trail are part of the Sanctuary, giving visitors opportunities to spend time observing the neotropical migrant birds and native wildflowers.. In the spring, the park is visited by bird lovers anxious to view the annual bird migration.

About Cheryle/Owner

We have been visiting the Gulf Shores area for many years. We have two boys and one granddaughter. We all love the beach and fishing. We have always dreamed of owning a house in the area.We are only about 4 hours away so are able to visit frequently...look forward to sharing our dream

Cheryle/Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why Cheryle/Owner chose Fort Morgan

We were on vacation at the home across the street and loved the neighborhood so much we decided this is where we wanted our vacation home to be. Purchased this home in 2009, purchased home two lots over in 2013 and built a new home between the two in 2015.

What makes this house unique

Home is located on a quite street.Ideal for families. In an area where pets are also welcome. They are allowed on the beach as long as they are on a leash. The house has open lots on one side and in back which provides great views. We own the two homes next to this one great for weddings and reunions.

Clean and Fuctional

  • 4 of 5

My family enjoyed the stay. The weather did not cooperate ( Out of Our Control ). Only suggestion would be for a few more pots to cook in. My wife is a retired cook and relishes a good set of pots. Overall a great value. Will recommend to friends and co-workers.

Great Beach Rental

  • 5 of 5

This is a great rental. Our family has spent time in May and October in this house for the last 5 years. The property is well maintained and has everything you may need. The owners are fantastic. They are prompt and will take care of any problems you may have immediately. I recommend this house or one of the other two next door (which are owned by the same owners) to anyone wanting to spend a relaxing time at the beach.

Great place to stay in Fort Morgan

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Maw-Maw's house from May 15-17,2016 for a much need vacation. We brought our furry baby with us and she had a good time. This place was clean and had everythingyou need as advertised. It is a small walk to beach and not alot of people on the beach this time of year. Other people had their pets so our dog and friends to play with and cool water to swim. The property is roughly 15 miles from Gulf Shores but there is Sassy Bass Market about 2 miles away that has everything you need. THere is also Sassy Bass-Amazing Grill restaurant with very good. We are looking to stay here in the future. I would recommend to friends. It was quiet and peaceful.

User friendly house

  • 5 of 5

Although we all love the beach, it can be a very messy place with sand invading everything it comes near. A long time friend and I took our 3 poodle/doodle dogs on our visit to Fort Morgan beach, Maw maw's house. Everything was set up perfectly to keep sand out of our cars, the house, equipment and dog friendly at the same time. Coming back from the short walk to the beach, we had a shaded, paved area to bathe the dogs. They could walk on an entirely paved area to get up the steps and to the huge deck. With an over view of any occasional traffic, (walkers, drivers, bikers and other neighborhood dogs), they were amused long enough to stay outside until they were dry. There was a gate to keep them from going back down the stairs. Also plenty of deck railing to dry towels on. If they needed more attention we put up the baby gate to the deck from the living area and they felt like they were partly in the house. Lots of shade on the deck too. Then for an evening out, we could parade them to the car parking area and into the cars without getting their feet sandy. For us there was a shower stall, which was nice and roomy and I enjoyed that one more than the traditional bathroom in the house. The entire house was tile type flooring and very easy to sweep up. The house was stocked with plenty of everything. We brought more than was needed. Except clothes and food, there was at least one of everything that I have at my own house. (I don't own a separate freezer or a waffle iron). The Fort Morgan area was to die for. The local streets were nearly pedestrian only, as there is so little traffic. We left all kinds of beach equipment in the downstairs area and nothing disappeared. I felt safe walking anywhere at night. The house was clean and tidy and everything worked. Cheryl is friendly and answers all questions. The price was reasonable and there is a 10% discount if you return!!! I am going to try to take advantage of that!

A place of history, leisure and nature, the Fort Morgan peninsula extends like a long finger west of Gulf Shores, Alabama. If you're looking to get away from crowded beach bars and tacky souvenir shops, this section of the Alabama Gulf Coast is a good option. Much of the peninsula is part of a protected wildlife refuge, but many beachfront accommodations are available. You may have to drive to Gulf Shores to pick up major supplies, but it's well worth that small hassle to experience these pristine, sparkling sugar-white sands on your beach vacation.
