At the west end of the Pleasure Island peninsula are the remains of Fort Morgan. One of the two forts that protected Mobile during the Battle of Mobile Bay, the Fort dates from 1812. A museum offers displays of Civil War artifacts, and tours reveal the history of the fort from the War of 1812 until its final closure by the Army in 1946. On the beach, visitors will find cannons gazing out to sea. After touring the fort, there are opportunities to stroll the white beaches, swim, fish or crab, shell hunt, and sunbathe. This spot is a favorite with birdwatchers, who have been known to make rare sightings of migratory birds. A marina, golf course, and lodging are all nearby. The first week in August the fort hosts its major annual event, the Civil War Living History Encampment.
Recreate among endangered species and migratory birds. Over 4,000 acres of beach dunes, scrub dunes, fresh water marsh, salt water marsh, and Maritime forest make up the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge just west of Gulf Shores. This coastal Refuge is part of the Central Gulf Ecosystem Unit and provides refuge for the endangered loggerhead sea turtle, the endangered American alligator, and the rare gopher tortoise. Part of the migration route of the monarch butterfly, the Refuge is also known for its more than 120 species of birds - making it a paradise for bird watchers. Along with birding, the refuge offers opportunities for hiking, swimming, photography, collecting sea shells, and boating. Fishermen enjoy both fresh and saltwater fishing.
Ride the auto ferry to Dauphin Island for a tour of the SeaLab and historic Fort Gaines.Birdwatching and sunbathing are two of the favorite activities on this island paradise. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary, at the east end of the island, extends over 164-acres of maritime forest, marshes, and dunes. A campground and hiking trail are part of the Sanctuary, giving visitors opportunities to spend time observing the neotropical migrant birds and native wildflowers.. In the spring, the park is visited by bird lovers anxious to view the annual bird migration.

We have been visiting the Gulf Shores area for many years. We have two boys and one granddaughter. We all love the beach and fishing. We have always dreamed of owning a house in the area.We are only about 4 hours away so are able to visit frequently...look forward to sharing our dream
Cheryle/Owner purchased this house in 2009
We were on vacation at the home across the street and loved the neighborhood so much we decided this is where we wanted our vacation home to be. Purchased this home in 2009, purchased home two lots over in 2013 and built a new home between the two in 2015.
Home is located on a quite street.Ideal for families. In an area where pets are also welcome. They are allowed on the beach as long as they are on a leash. The house has open lots on one side and in back which provides great views. We own the two homes next to this one great for weddings and reunions.
We enjoyed our stay at your home. Thank you for allowing us to bring our fur babies too. They enjoyed laying around the house & going to the beach. Would recommend it to anyone that wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life. Thanks again!
Over all we had a nice place to stay with very nice accommodations. We enjoyed short walk to the beach. Would like to have had a little more seating in living room for family time. But would recommend Maw Maws place . Working with the owner was fast and courteous.
Would recommend to our friends
My family enjoyed the stay. The weather did not cooperate ( Out of Our Control ). Only suggestion would be for a few more pots to cook in. My wife is a retired cook and relishes a good set of pots. Overall a great value. Will recommend to friends and co-workers.
We had an amazing week at your beach house!!! ,We enjoyed the beach but also sitting in the porch at night ,Thank you for providing almost everything for us ( pots , pans , bowls , dishes, towels , chairs , umbrellas, toys , grill ,and so on )We look forward on coming back next summer cause this has been one of the best places we ever been !!!
This is a great rental. Our family has spent time in May and October in this house for the last 5 years. The property is well maintained and has everything you may need. The owners are fantastic. They are prompt and will take care of any problems you may have immediately. I recommend this house or one of the other two next door (which are owned by the same owners) to anyone wanting to spend a relaxing time at the beach.
A place of history, leisure and nature, the Fort Morgan peninsula extends like a long finger west of Gulf Shores, Alabama. If you're looking to get away from crowded beach bars and tacky souvenir shops, this section of the Alabama Gulf Coast is a good option. Much of the peninsula is part of a protected wildlife refuge, but many beachfront accommodations are available. You may have to drive to Gulf Shores to pick up major supplies, but it's well worth that small hassle to experience these pristine, sparkling sugar-white sands on your beach vacation.
