|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
This is a perfect place for a quiet get-a-away for 2 or wonderful alternative to a required hotel stay. The cottage was built totally by hand, by the owner, with trees cut from the property. It is designed for adults and there is nowhere for kids to pay.
Due to the setting it's best:
-for only 1 or 2 people-sorry not for visitors unless discussed
-corporate stay in the Lexington area .
-snowbirds in transit or scoping the area
-visiting family in the area, but prefer your privacy
Sorry, but there is no place to dock a boat or park a trailer. If you are renting a boat for a day, then check with the owners about a temporary dock .
If you stay a week and could leave the lake, it's two hours from Charleston, SC. Downtown Columbia is 35/40 minutes away and the zoo (30 minutes) State Museum and children's museum are well worth the visit. Restaurants and many shopping choices are in Lexington which is an 18 minute drive. A few restaurants and grocery stores are an easy 10 minute drive from the guest house. Most renters prefer to shop prior to arrival.
TWO KAYAKS are available to enjoy our large cove or to explore Shull Island.
Accommodations: Den and kitchen with island on one floor. Downstairs 600 sq. ft. with a queen bed and sitting area. Sleeps 2- one queen bed downstairs.
Three large windows overlooking the lake. We have all new appliances, including granite counter tops and 2 HD TVs with Dish Satellite.
There is a deck off the lower level for enjoying the lake view and for kayak or swimming access.
Off Season, 2 nights available if less than a month away from arrival.

My husband, Andy, is a retired airline pilot who flew for Pan Am and then Delta Airlines. He commuted to NY in order to live on the lake. He is now a golfer and can gladly help you with any area golf questions. I am a former French teacher and will gladly help you with lake questions or anything else.
My husband cut 100 trees from our property in 1993 and started a 'project' with the lumber he had from the trees. He had planned for it to be a place for projects. Hence-part of the reason for the bathroom upstairs. He would work a while and then quit for a year or so. We finally decided to finish it as a guest house in order to use it for our own personal guests. We have another vrbo on Lake Murray and enjoy sharing it and lake information. That helped us decide to use the guest house as a vrbo also.
Use the private dock for grilling or just relaxing by the lake. Some just enjoy the beautiful view from inside the cottage. It is a large space for 2 people-Quiet and cozy. Perfect for relaxation! The kayaks are such fun.
What a great weekend! This is the most relaxed we have been in a very log time. We love it here!
Hope we will be able to return soon.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us.
The cottage and its location along with our hosts Ellen and Andy made this a perfect and relaxing vacation. We had 13 days/nights by the lake and enjoyed every minute. We're from Scotland so the fabulous Fall weather was very kind to us. We particularly loved spotting wildlife from the deck and on our daily walks around Shull Island. Everywhere is so well maintained and yet still 'wild' enough to support some lovely 'critters'. In particular a close encounter with a humming bird will be a cherished memory on the dark winter nights up North! All this and an incredibly comfortable tasteful cottage to relax in. Andy and Ellen could not have been more helpful or generous with their time to ensure we had all the info we needed to enjoy our trip and see as much of the highlights of South Carolina as possible. For us 5 stars aren't a high enough rating for this cottage, it's quite simply perfect. I have no doubt we'll return as there's still so much to see and do in SC!

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights after dropping our oldest off at USC. The cottage was charming and very comfortable and we relaxed immediately into peaceful tranquility. We loved sitting out by the lake, swimming and kayaking. We had an adventurous and memorable sunset/moonrise kayak on the Saluda! Ellen and Andy were fabulous - attentive and helpful. Would definitely recommend and we look forward to returning!
This was our second stay at the cottage and, once again, we really enjoyed it. Ellen and Andy are gracious hosts and we always enjoy chatting with them when we run into each other. The cottage is nicely tucked away and I feel peaceful and relaxed when we are there. We love sitting out on the deck and watching the birds and wildlife. It is nice to have the kayaks when you feel like getting out on the water. The guest house location is convenient to most everything (by car) and it makes a great "home base" for us. It feels spacious for the 2 of us and is so much nicer than staying in a hotel room. We look forward to staying there again soon.
My husband and I needed a few days of rest and relaxation and this cottage was perfect! It felt luxurious, and it had everything we needed to grill out all our meals and then enjoy eating on the deck overlooking the dock. Kayaking around the nearby coves was a highlight of our time, as was swimming and floating on tubes doing absolutely nothing but talking. Ellen was a gracious host and made sure all our needs were met. The cable TV was an extra bonus and my husband enjoyed watching the Tour de France. We will recommend this place to others!
First, the owners are the kindest two people in the world. The cottage is lovely and peaceful. They have paid attention to details and care that you are pleased with what they have done. I came here to study and plan and I was able to do that with an open and clear mind.
Very cozy getaway for two. Wanted a nice quiet place to celebrate 36 years of marriage and we found it. Spotless and comfortable, this place was exactly what we were looking for. Just bring food and everything else is there including a couple of kayaks for evening fun. Ellen was absolutely wonderful and caring for our needs and we will most likely stay here again!
