|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
This is a perfect place for a quiet get-a-away for 2 or wonderful alternative to a required hotel stay. The cottage was built totally by hand, by the owner, with trees cut from the property. It is designed for adults and there is nowhere for kids to pay.
Due to the setting it's best:
-for only 1 or 2 people-sorry not for constant visitors
-corporate stay in the Lexington area .
-snowbirds in transit or scoping the area
-visiting family in the area, but prefer your privacy
Sorry, but there is no place to dock a boat or park a trailer. If you are renting a boat for a day, then check with the owners about a temporary dock .
If you stay a week and could leave the lake, it's two hours from Charleston, SC. Downtown Columbia is 35/40 minutes away and the zoo (30 minutes) State Museum and children's museum are well worth the visit. Restaurants and many shopping choices are in Lexington which is an 18 minute drive. A few restaurants and grocery stores are an easy 10 minute drive from the guest house. Most renters prefer to shop prior to arrival.
TWO KAYAKS are available to enjoy our large cove or to explore Shull Island.
Accommodations: Den and kitchen with island on one floor. Downstairs 600 sq. ft. with a queen bed and sitting area. Sleeps 2- one queen bed downstairs.
Three large windows overlooking the lake. We have all new appliances, including granite counter tops and 2 HD TVs with Dish Satellite.
There is a deck off the lower level for enjoying the lake view and for kayak or swimming access.

My husband, Andy, is a retired airline pilot who flew for Pan Am and then Delta Airlines. He commuted to NY in order to live on the lake. He is now a golfer and can gladly help you with any area golf questions. I am a former French teacher and will gladly help you with lake questions or anything else.
My husband cut 100 trees from our property in 1993 and started a 'project' with the lumber he had from the trees. He had planned for it to be a place for projects. Hence-part of the reason for the bathroom upstairs. He would work a while and then quit for a year or so. We finally decided to finish it as a guest house in order to use it for our own personal guests. We have another vrbo on Lake Murray and enjoy sharing it and lake information. That helped us decide to use the guest house as a vrbo also.
Use the private dock for grilling or just relaxing by the lake. Some just enjoy the beautiful view from inside the cottage. It is a large space for 2 people-Quiet and cozy. Perfect for relaxation! The kayaks are such fun.
We love this place. It was perfect and exactly what we were looking for. Our first trip to the south has been awesome, thanks for your hospitality and sharing your guest house/awesome location with us.
This was our second stay at the cottage and, once again, we really enjoyed it. Ellen and Andy are gracious hosts and we always enjoy chatting with them when we run into each other. The cottage is nicely tucked away and I feel peaceful and relaxed when we are there. We love sitting out on the deck and watching the birds and wildlife. It is nice to have the kayaks when you feel like getting out on the water. The guest house location is convenient to most everything (by car) and it makes a great "home base" for us. It feels spacious for the 2 of us and is so much nicer than staying in a hotel room. We look forward to staying there again soon.
My husband and I needed a few days of rest and relaxation and this cottage was perfect! It felt luxurious, and it had everything we needed to grill out all our meals and then enjoy eating on the deck overlooking the dock. Kayaking around the nearby coves was a highlight of our time, as was swimming and floating on tubes doing absolutely nothing but talking. Ellen was a gracious host and made sure all our needs were met. The cable TV was an extra bonus and my husband enjoyed watching the Tour de France. We will recommend this place to others!
First, the owners are the kindest two people in the world. The cottage is lovely and peaceful. They have paid attention to details and care that you are pleased with what they have done. I came here to study and plan and I was able to do that with an open and clear mind.
Very cozy getaway for two. Wanted a nice quiet place to celebrate 36 years of marriage and we found it. Spotless and comfortable, this place was exactly what we were looking for. Just bring food and everything else is there including a couple of kayaks for evening fun. Ellen was absolutely wonderful and caring for our needs and we will most likely stay here again!
This cottage is absolutely wonderful. We stayed back in 2013 and I'm so sorry Ellen as I thought I had left a review back then!
We stayed for 10 days having arrived into Charlotte airport we hired a car and drove down to the cottage and had the most wonderful time.
The property is decorated to a high standard with everything you need for your stay. The open plan living room and kitchen is upstairs with great views of the lake and the lovely trees. It was absolutely spotless and very quiet, except for the occasional pine cone that would make me jump when it hit the deck!
The bedroom leads out onto the dock so you don't have to waste any time driving anywhere, you can get straight into the kayaks from your bed!
I recommend getting up really early when everything is still and quiet and going out on the canoe, it is simply stunning, and if you are like me and like being nosey and looking at other peoples massive lake houses, you get a great view of them from the water!
Ellen and Andy were so lovely and friendly and we felt so welcome, being invited over to family dinners and boat trips and spending time with them on the dock we had such a lovely lovely time, it felt like we were visiting friends.
The day I locked my car keys into the hire car Ellen was so helpful arranging for the man to come out and help us, we would have been truly stuck without her help.
There are some wonderful places to visit and we enjoyed driving to the surrounding cities and villages. There are lots of supermarkets and nice shops close by but you will need a car for getting around to those places.
There is a drive in movie theatre which we really enjoyed, however having come over from England, where our cinemas are all indoors, we were not prepared for sitting out at night. We had to stay in the car and sweat it out, whilst everyone else was sat out in the cool air on the chairs they had brought along!
We would definitely go back and stay in the cottage again. To this day, every time we make Blueberry coffee ( which we bought from the local Piggly Wiggly) it reminds us of our stay there and makes us home sick for it.
My wife and I took a two week road trip for our honeymoon and spent the last three nights here. My only regret is not spending the entire two weeks at this place. It was better than expected. The property itself is gorgeous and peaceful. We took the kayaks out into the lake every afternoon and had a blast going all around it. Andy and Ellen are THE BEST. They were incredibly helpful and sweet, and gave us tons of recommendations. It has a fully equipped kitchen, which we really enjoyed, and satellite TV for when we wanted to watch movies at night. It was the most relaxing time I've had in years. I would 100% recommend to anyone and look forward to going back soon!
