What makes this condo unique

Right on world famous kaanapali beach. Close to restaurants. Snorkeling and lots of water sports. Unit is s pent house on the 12th floor of tower 1 at whaler only 2nd from ocean front ,with sweeping ocean viwes and black rock

Wonderful Family Vacation, Family of 4

We had nothing but positive communication with the owners of this condo while booking, preparing, making the deposit, sending in payment, staying at the condo, and following up. The owners are always prompt in responding to email. They wanted to ensure we had a wonderful stay with no hiccups. The unit worked great for our family. 2 bathrooms were a big plus, as well as laundry in the unit. The owners have been willing to acknowledge our minor requests for improvements to the condo and were quick to address them. Being on the top floor allows for great views from balcony, bedroom, and living room. The Whaler itself is very well-run. The staff are very friendly, and they keep the grounds looking clean and beautiful. We hope to be able to say in this unit again in the future!

Could be a fabulous unit

The bones for a truly beautiful unit are here - 12th floor and good unit layout. But I have to concur with other reviewers on some issues the owner needs to address. The electrical outlets must be the originals ones. Keeping anything plugged in was an exercise in creativity. The washer/dryer, while nice to have, is old and there is rust around the edges - and I too noticed the ceiling tiles falling down. The rug was old and frayed. As for the pillows there were only two for the master bedroom and they were flat. The lighting was harsh and the lamps were very cheaply made.

It appeared that the "renovation" was only to certain things. However, the view was great and the Whaler was a great resort - although I couldn't use the work out center which was being renovated and it was one of the facilities included in the resort fee. Ideal location looking towards Black Rock and high enough that there was no noise. The staff at the resort was very good and the lobby and grounds are beautiful. I would return to the Whaler but not to this unit.

Owner's Response: all the deficiencies have been fixed, thanks for your input. we have new mattress, new dinnerware, and flatware, new toaster, carpet cleaned, the electric outlets changed, the ceiling tiles fixed.there are 10 pillows in the unit. unit looks i was there for 10 days, new paint and furniture,

Great Resort , Condo

Owner was very accommodating. The view was spectacular. Kaanapali Beach and resort area is a great location for a Maui vacation with lots of restaurants and activities nearby. The mattress had been replaced recently and was very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with new gadgets, utensils, and glassware. Washer and dryer in the unit and the second bathroom were a definite plus. On the negative and not by much, the carpet did show some wear, baseboards worn and the main entry door did not close properly ( this was being fixed by the Whaler staff). Very nice condo and resort. If we come back to Maui we definitely will recommend this resort to friends and consider staying at this condo in the future.

Location is Fantastic, Unit 1212 needs some help.

I can't say enough good about The Whaler. The staff was friendly and helpful, the grounds were spotless, the pool was wonderful. This unit had fantastic views. The bathrooms and the kitchen has been re-done with granite and very nice cabinetry. But, if you are going to re-do things, why not re-do everything? The mattress was topped with a very thick memory foam pad. Probably 4 inches thick. They are known for holding heat and this one did not disappoint. It was so awfully hot that we had to turn the thermostat waaaay down. Why not just invest in a new mattress? By morning, the sheet had snapped into the foam and flipped it up at the corner. Every single morning. The kitchen had a nice layout. There was a total of two teaspoons, a few forks, lots of butter knives and some serving ware. The pots and pans looked worse than something you would purchase at a thrift shop. I was afraid to use some of it, it was that bad. The "non-stick" was peeling off. There was one (1) iced tea (tall) glass, two cracked blue plastic cups and two green plastic cups. Tons of wine glasses and margarita glasses. A bit much really. Honestly, I could have just dealt with this if I didn't have anything to compare it to, but my sister stayed in unit 1101. It was also re-done, much better. Every kitchen gadget known to man and all in fine shape. Lot's of glasses and much nicer plastic cups. And a larger quantity of all. Oh, and they actually had silverware that matched. In my opinion, these are inexpensive fixes that would have made this unit a 5 star. The washer and dryer was a really nice thing to have in the unit. But I am not sure why periodic ceiling tiles were pushed up for us to look at the nastiness above. There was a cooler and beach equipment. That was nice to have and appreciated. My communication with the owner was overall ok. After sending the deposit and the check being cashed I got an e-mail asking if I was still interested in renting the unit. To say that this threw me and kept me uneasy right up to the time we checked in is an understatement.

Will I come back to Maui again? Probably. Will I stay at the Whaler? Probably. Would I rent this unit? Probably not. I would have been willing to pay a little more to have all of the little annoyances taken care of. Overall, we had a wonderful vacation.

Beautiful ocean AND mountain views - had a very enjoyable stay!

We just returned home from a wonderful week at this condo and did not want to leave! Condo is very nice, the bed is very comfortable, washer/dryer and air conditioning worked great! The Lanai is large and had AMAZING views of Kaanapali beach, mountains and Molokai. We stayed in unit 1101 (beachfront with wrap-around Lanai) in 2013 and enjoyed the view from this unit much more! There was snorkel gear, a beach bag, cooler, umbrella and shovel, and boogie boards that we got good use out of. There was plenty of underground parking. There is an elevator in the parking garage that takes you right to your floor. We love the Whaler because of the location next to Whaler's Village with direct access to the beach path. We hope to get to stay here again!!
