Austin Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 1 full bath, sleeps 6

Bring a car if you want to, but you won't need it. From the SoCo Casita (City of Austin license # OL 2012127650) you are less than a five-minute stroll to SoCo's wide sidewalks lined with buskers, artists, craftspeople...many of Austin's best restaurants...and our great, home-grown, uniquely-Austin shops....Got your fill of that? Seven-tenths of a mile to the tree-canopied Town Lake hike and bike trail. Cruise the lake on a pedal-powered swan boat, pole board, kayak or canoe from Lone Star Riverboats. Rent a bicycle and dawdle under the trees less than another mile to gorgeous, huge, naturally-formed Barton Springs Pool. Back at home, stroll three to five blocks to white-tablecloth restaurants Vespaio, Woodland, Perla's... Or grab vittles from Thai food to BBQ to crepes and cupcakes at the Airstream foodie trailers.....Ready to party? A five-minute walk takes you to live music at the legendary Continental Club...Trophy's....Jovita's....Freddie's.....Dance beneath starlit skies and the ancient oaks at Guero's Taco Bar....Need even more variety? Downtown jumps at night and it's one mile away. Enjoy!

our perfect home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Dale's house so much we ended up extending our visit by a few days, but even our ten nights at the property wasn't long enough. This was our approximately 30th visit to Austin, we've stayed in plenty of rentals and tried out some great hotels in the area too but from now on this will be our first choice.

The location is perfect - walking distance to everything you may want, including Guero's, the Continental Club, SoCo shopping, Barton Springs, Downtown - it's all accessible easily on foot. The pictures online don't do the house justice, it's cozy and comfortable, excellent sized bedrooms, fully functional kitchen with everything you could possibly need. The wild garden in front of the house is beautiful and fragrant, my only complaint about the entire property would be that the walkway could be trimmed just a bit to save tenants from being scraped up on the branches, but I'm guessing the deluge of recent rain has caused a big growth spurt in the greenery. The backyard is great too, although it was so hot during our visit that we didn't spend much time back there - thankfully the air conditioning is extremely efficient so the house was always cool and comfortable.

I can't say enough about this wonderful property, I highly recommend staying there and we will definitely return. Dale was an excellent help to us when we wanted to extend our stay, he also gave us some suggestions on where to spend July 4th and any inquiries we made to him were answered promptly. Our family of three adults and two children (who have since stated they want to live in Austin permanently because it's more fun that Disney World!) were very comfortable at the Casita and we cannot wait to get back to our perfect home away from home. Thanks Dale!

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay in Austin and your time at the Casita, so much, Tara. It was a real pleasure to host y'all. Nothing makes me feel better about offering my home to travelers than hearing that kids staying at the Casita loved it and found Austin "more fun than Disney World!" That's about as great a compliment as could be had from happy kiddos! And yes, the deluges that ended our historic drought here continued unabated for weeks before your arrival, and resulted in quite a growth spurt for the Texas Sage bushes along the path to the front door. We couldn't get to them during the rains at that time, but they have now been trimmed back to provide contact-free entry to the house. I'm really glad to know you will likely come see us again when your travels bring you this way again!

It was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for us! So close to Congress with all the good shops and great food! This house was just lovely. Quiet, comfortable, beautiful rosemary in the front yard. Dale was easy to communicate with and very nice to rent from. We will be looking forward to working with him again! Thank you!!

Great location, wonderful host

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming house with an outstanding location: walking distance from the SoCo district where there's lots of good music venues and very good food. I could have had every meal (including breakfast) at HomeSlice Pizza and been perfectly content; there are plenty of choices, though, and we'll continue to explore next time. Dale, the landlord, provided a detailed list of restaurants, shops, and other Austin highlights, which was a huge help not only while we were there (we wore out our copy), but also a lot of fun to read as we anticipated the trip.

The bedrooms are spacious, the beds very comfortable, and the house was spotless. There's a beautiful, almost grotto-like backyard as a bonus.

Dale, the landlord, is a wonderful host--available if we needed something, but never intrusive. I love the fact that he doesn't require an extra damage deposit; I've never encountered this before. I haven't object to the concept of these deposits in the past, but it certainly adds a positive tone to the experience, and reinforces the value he places on being a good host.

This is a special place. Highly recommend!

Best location in SoCo!

  • 5 of 5

The Casita is located between South Congress and 1st Street, and a short walk across the river will get you downtown. There are so many good restaurants within a 1/2 mile radius you can happily eat your way to nirvana without moving your car from the driveway. The home has a large backyard with a huge shade tree where mourning doves coo, crows talk, and squirrels romp. You can lounge in the yard and hear live music from South Congess in the afternoons, yet the neighborhood is blissfully quiet at night. Cute bungalow decorated with wonderful music related artwork. Comfy bed. My only critique would be that there is one bathroom for a three bedroom home. My husband and I were the only guests, but I can't imagine 3 couples sharing one bathroom, unless they are a close knit family. Thank you Dale.

One Word....Awesome!!

  • 5 of 5

This property is our home away from home while staying in Austin. Dale is most gracious and always makes sure our stay is perfect. The Casita is just a few blocks from SOCO which makes it optimal for walking to all the shops and restaurants. The house has comfortable beds, high quality linens, and all the amenities you need to make your stay perfect. The back yard is ideal for enjoying the outdoors at any time of the day with comfy padded chaise lounge chairs, shade from the sun, and string lights for the evening time. Our family definitely recommends Dale's Casita for your next vacation rental in Austin.

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to Austin before and we could not have hand picked a more perfect location for our visit.

2 to 3 walking blocks from great boutiques, lively entertainment and yummy food trucks! We had a great week!

We had our family of five, the house is small, but worked great. The bathroom is smaller but doable. Older home in need of some repair but everything function properly.

We would for sure return.
