Rainbow Lake Lodge is a completely private cabin home on its own spacious lot on a lake in Willow, Alaska. The living area is on the second floor giving guests a panoramic view of the surrounding birch tree forest and beautiful Rainbow Lake. There are two bedrooms upstairs each with a queen size bed and a downstairs bedroom with two twin size beds. There is a full kitchen and the bathroom offers you all the comforts of home.
In the summer there are three docks in different locations along our 1,000 feet of shoreline which gives our guests the opportunity to enjoy the sun as it moves across the sky. We have a short walking trail which winds its way through the property passing our flower and vegetable gardens ending at our gazebo.
Our cabin has two large decks which overlook the lake. Our neighbors on the lake are mainly here on the weekends so if you stay with us during the week you might have the lake mostly to yourself. We have no neighbors that are visable across the lake from the guest cabin which gives you unobstructed views of the Alaska wilderness. There is no public access to the lake so only property owners have access. The lake varies from absolute silence most of the time on week days to busy with watercraft enjoying the long Alaska days during the weekend.
We only have one rental on the property so you will not have to share your cabin with any other guests. We have our own cabin on the neighboring property and are always available to answer questions or assist in making your stay an excellent experience.
Rainbow Lake Lodge is located on Rainbow Lake in the heart of the Matanuska Susitna Valley, between Anchorage and Denali National Park, bordering on the Nancy Lake Recreational Area Park in Willow, the home of the Iditarod Sled dog Race restart. There are many summer recreational options. Fishing, hiking, boating, 4 wheeling, flightseeing (Mt McKinley glacier landings), touring the historic Independence gold mine, dogsled demonstrations, sightseeing and more.
Our beautiful property offers an excellent chance to just relax and enjoy the loons calling and the occasional moose, bear, or smaller wildlife that does wander by. The area is well known for its excellent fishing with Willow Creek offering salmon, trout and grayling fishing. Guided trips can be arranged. Fly out trips for flight seeing and fishing can also be arranged.

Steve and Sharon are long time Alaskans. We have been bringing our family and friends to the lake since 1978. We built both the vacational rental and our separate Log Cabin Lodge and spend as much time here as we can. Steve is retired from the State of Alaska, has been a pilot, registered hunting guide, enjoys fishing, snow machining, and is a veteran. Sharon operates her own business in Anchorage as a Registered Guardian.
Steve or Sharon Wells purchased this cabin in 1992
We choose this area because it is conveniently located just an hour and half driving time from Anchorage, on a lake with a south facing view, on well maintained roads, with all the conveniences and far enough away to be on the edge of a wilderness type setting.
Quiet. Easy drive from Anchorage. Private Lake. Your own fully equipped apartment with beautiful view of the lake. Excellent stop over to or from Denali National Park. Travel advice and tips from Alaskans who have been to all the tourist points of interest and can offer some tips that will make your visit unique and enjoyable.
We have a fantastic week with Steve & Sharon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be making annual plans to visit Rainbow Lake in the future to take advantage of the great location and great hospitality. We a great time using Steve as our guide and trip planner and will enjoy our week's worth of memories for years to come.
1.Took a guided fishing trip with Lonn at Hellbentfishing.com where we all caught and released too many rainbows and silver salmon than we could count, truly exceptional.
2. Did a drop off fishing trip out of Talkeetna with TriRivers charter and it was a beautiful day by the river to relax and catch fish.
3. From Talkeetna again we took a flightseeing trip with Talkeetna Air into Denali Park and Mt. McKinley landing on the mountain glacier with absolutely clear and calm skies which provided a camera full of pictures.
4. Day trip to Hatcher Pass and Independence Mine making a loop from Willow over the pass to Wasilla and back.
5.Relaxing by the lake when we took the time.
Truly a trip to remember for years to come.
This cabin is absolutely amazing. Comfortable, spacious, with an amazing view. The kitchen had everything we need. This was the most relaxing vacation I've ever had mostly due to the cabin and location.
Steve and Sharon were absolutely wonderful to work with in planning our vacation. When I come back to Alaska this will definitely be my first choice for lodging.
Our family spent three nights at the cabin, which in our opinion sits on the best location on Rainbow Lake. The owners live next door and were available if we had any questions. Steve and Sharon provided great communication prior to our arrival. They were friendly, excellent hosts who took care to make sure we were comfortable and answered all of our questions about the area. It is clear that they have a lot of pride in their property, which is well maintained. We enjoyed just walking around the property on the little trails to admire the landscaping.
Our two boys (ages 16 and 12) loved taking the paddle boat around the lake and fishing along the shore. They caught 8 northern pike during our stay. There are three docks on the property, one of which was an excellent place to watch a brilliant sunset on our final night. Our youngest really liked the tall, hillside swing that Steve has built overlooking the lake.
The town of Willow is a short 10-minute drive. The cabin serves as a great base camp for day trips to Talkeetna, Denali, or Hatcher Pass Road. However, our favorite part of the day was returning "home" to sit by the lake. Because our stay was during the week, the lake was quiet and calm almost the entire time. It felt as if we had the entire lake to ourselves.
Overall, this was an excellent stay, and we would definitely return again or recommend the property to others.
We had the most wonderful stay in this beautiful cabin. It is nestled among the trees on a very scenic lakeshore. The property is very large and full of interesting trails, gardens and features, all created and impeccably maintained by the master-craftsman and owner, Steve. Steve and Sharon are a wonderful couple who made our stay so enjoyable by sharing their tips on what to see and do, by providing lots of engaging conversation about life in Alaska, and by just being genuinely friendly and welcoming. The location is perfect for seeing all of this region of Alaska--Talkeetna, Denali, Palmer, Anchorage, Wasilla, and the list goes on. One of the best tips we had (thanks Steve) was driving the road up to Hatcher Pass and over to Independence Mine. The dirt road starts just down the highway from the cabin and takes you through what in my opinion is some of the most beautiful scenery in Alaska. The trip up to the summit is remote and wild. We did not pass another car the entire way up. The mountains, meadows, wildlife, and summit lake are awesome! It was my favorite day.
Thank you Steve and Sharon for sharing your little slice of Alaska with us. Your place is beautiful and perfect. We had a memorable family vacation and look forward to visiting again some day.

The cabin was a very nice clean, we enjoyed our stay very much. The beds were very comfort able and the view was awesome!
2 of us spent 5 days, 4 nights at this cabin. We were greated by the owner Steve (and his grandchildren Emma and Lucas). They all gave us the run down of the cabin as well as the area. This cabin is right on Rainbow Lake - since we stayed over Memorial Day weekend, there was a fair bit of boat and PWC traffic, but after the holiday, the lake was quiet.
This cabin is far enough away to feel secluded, but is close enough to small grocery stores/gas stations. Ot is close to the Deshka landing for king salmon fishing, and Talkeetna and Denali ate easy day trips.
Steve suggested a flight tour of Denali which we did with Talkeetna Air Taxi including a glacier landing. This was awesome!
Will be back.
