As you pass through the stone pillars and drive up the winding rhododendron-lined driveway you will be transported into the by-gone era of the early 1900s when travelers sought solace in the mountain retreats of North Carolina. This renovated cottage is attractively decorated and tucked away on a private 12-acre estate in Laurel Park dating from the early 1900s. Only 1 ½ miles from downtown, you will be minutes from the shops and restaurants of Hendersonville and Flat Rock, yet have the privacy of this comfortable retreat. Enjoy the mountain views and acres of attractively landscaped gardens featuring mountain laurel, hydrangeas, rhododendron, azaleas and peonies. From your cottage, take a short stroll on well-maintained walking trails to a pretty neighborhood stream or a scenic pond.
The cottage has heart pine floors and paneling making a very cozy retreat. The sunroom has views of the gardens on three sides and a brick wood burning fireplace to take the chill off late fall evenings. There are two bedrooms and a shared bath. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a down comforter. The second bedroom has a single bed.
The cottage is located just 18 miles south of Asheville. It is a short drive if you want to spend a day exploring the Biltmore House and grounds or the shops of Biltmore Village. You will be close to Dupont State Forest which boasts a number of beautiful waterfalls as well as various hiking and biking trails. Whether you want to spend the day fly fishing on the Davidson River in Pisgah National Forest, take a picnic and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, or go to a play at the Flat Rock Playhouse, your hosts will be happy to advise you. We do not allow smoking or pets on the property.
We moved to the area because we found that we were traveling here most weekends to take advantage of the hiking, kayaking, golfing and outdoor activities.
Lillian Lilly purchased this cottage in 2002
The property was one of the first ones that we saw and we decided to take on the challenge of a renovation. We loved the historic character and the beauty of the mature landscaping. The view is beautiful and we love it during all of the seasons of the year.
The cottage is convenient to downtown yet is private on our 12 areas. The rocking chairs on the porch are a perfect place to read and enjoy the blooming rhododendron.
Our guest cottage is a well furnished retreat surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. Enjoy the May peonies and mountain laurel, June rhododendron, and July and August hydrangeas. We look forward to your visit.
We came to the Hendersonville area to celebrate Thanksgiving with our daughter and her boyfriend's family. This had all that we needed. Proximity to the things we were going to do in the area, a kitchen and a view!! We would love to come back at some point so that we can explore the area more.
Laurel Cottage was great---a beautiful setting, quiet, with wonderful hosts and even an awesome dog to greet us as we left and returned to the property. The cottage was furnished with everything we needed plus extra supplies that added a welcoming touch. Any information we asked about the area was thoroughly and quickly given. We spent a wonderful week there while helping our son search for a new home ----which he found a mile from Laurel Cottage! 😄
The hosts were amazing and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. They have a WONDERFUL location close to downtown Hendersonville and many restaurants. Definitely recommend staying here! Was family friendly.
The stay was very enjoyable! Everything was clean and quaint. The location in town could not be better with a access to downtown Hendersonville. Thankful to Lilly for an enjoyable stay and hope to return soon.
My husband and I felt like we were “Home” as soon as we arrived at this charming cottage. The owner met us and showed us around the cottage and made us feel welcome. She was extremely pleasant and throughout our stay in Laurel Cottage.
The kitchen was well stocked and organized. The cottage is clean and quiet.
This was our first visit to Hendersonville and we felt very fortunate that we picked Laurel Cottage for our month-long stay. It is in a great location in Hendersonville – just a 3 minute drive to downtown, and so easy to access all sections of the area. It is located in Laurel Park, the most picturesque neighborhood in Hendersonville.
The grounds of their property are absolutely beautiful! Every morning we would get our exercise by taking a walk admiring their beautiful landscaping. Since we stayed there 30 days in May/early June, we got to enjoy all the flowers in bloom on the grounds: mountain laurel, rhododendrons, azaleas, a field of many different colors of wild flowers, including red poppies and bachelor buttons. Oh My!
My (adult) daughter and I came to the cottage for a quiet weekend get-away, and it was perfect. The mattresses, comforters and fireplace fulfilled all of our 'comfy / cozy' needs. The kitchen was fully stocked for almost any level of food preparation--how convenient. Since the weather was rainy during most of our stay, we didn't take advantage of local hiking trails, but we spent time in Hendersonville and Asheville--and both are an easy drive from the cottage. The mountain views from the cottage are breathtaking and deeply relaxing. I hope to bring my husband back for a weekend get-away sometime in the future.
