Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)
As you pass through the stone pillars and drive up the winding rhododendron-lined driveway you will be transported into the by-gone era of the early 1900s when travelers sought solace in the mountain retreats of North Carolina. This renovated cottage is attractively decorated and tucked away on a private 12-acre estate in Laurel Park dating from the early 1900s. Only 1 ½ miles from downtown, you will be minutes from the shops and restaurants of Hendersonville and Flat Rock, yet have the privacy of this comfortable retreat. Enjoy the mountain views and acres of attractively landscaped gardens featuring mountain laurel, hydrangeas, rhododendron, azaleas and peonies. From your cottage, take a short stroll on well-maintained walking trails to a pretty neighborhood stream or a scenic pond.
The cottage has heart pine floors and paneling making a very cozy retreat. The sunroom has views of the gardens on three sides and a brick wood burning fireplace to take the chill off late fall evenings. There are two bedrooms and a shared bath. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a down comforter. The second bedroom has a single bed.
The cottage is located just 18 miles south of Asheville. It is a short drive if you want to spend a day exploring the Biltmore House and grounds or the shops of Biltmore Village. You will be close to Dupont State Forest which boasts a number of beautiful waterfalls as well as various hiking and biking trails. Whether you want to spend the day fly fishing on the Davidson River in Pisgah National Forest, take a picnic and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, or go to a play at the Flat Rock Playhouse, your hosts will be happy to advise you. We do not allow smoking or pets on the property.

About Lillian Lilly
We moved to the area because we found that we were traveling here most weekends to take advantage of the hiking, kayaking, golfing and outdoor activities.
Lillian Lilly purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Lillian Lilly chose Valley Hill
The property was one of the first ones that we saw and we decided to take on the challenge of a renovation. We loved the historic character and the beauty of the mature landscaping. The view is beautiful and we love it during all of the seasons of the year.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is convenient to downtown yet is private on our 12 areas. The rocking chairs on the porch are a perfect place to read and enjoy the blooming rhododendron.
Sports & Adventure Activities
Cottage is situated on a beautiful property with rolling hills and spectacular views.
Lillian and her family warmly welcomed us upon arrival and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The cottage was the perfect space for our family, with comfortable beds and cozy living areas, and we especially appreciated the delicious breakfast items provided by Lillian.
We had visited Asheville several times but had never explored Hendersonville, and we were excited to find charming downtown restaurants and shops as well as nearby hiking areas. We look forward to a return trip soon!
The house was wonderful! Had everything we needed for the week
Cabin in the woods in town
We stayed for a week. Pictures accurately represent the property. Homeowner was very responsive and helpful. Enjoyed morning walks through Laurel Park using the suggested routes from the homeowner.
Idyllic two-week Vacation
This charming cottage was every bit as nice as advertised, maybe even better. Lilian had provided us with enough coffee to last almost the entire two weeks, and yummy muffins and breakfast bread and yogurts to not have to go grocery shopping for a few days. The wildflowers on the property were in full bloom, and it was astonishingly beautiful. I either lived on the front porch in one of the rockers, or in the fireplace room with all of the windows open. She gave us tons of information on hiking and biking, sharing all her own booklets and maps and books about North Carolina. I absolutely would recommend, and we would definitely stay there again.
Thank you for writing such a nice review. We are delighted that you took advantage of so many of the outdoor attractions in our area. We enjoy helping our guests see Hendersonville at its best. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
We came to the Hendersonville area to celebrate Thanksgiving with our daughter and her boyfriend's family. This had all that we needed. Proximity to the things we were going to do in the area, a kitchen and a view!! We would love to come back at some point so that we can explore the area more.
Laurel Cottage was great---a beautiful setting, quiet, with wonderful hosts and even an awesome dog to greet us as we left and returned to the property. The cottage was furnished with everything we needed plus extra supplies that added a welcoming touch. Any information we asked about the area was thoroughly and quickly given. We spent a wonderful week there while helping our son search for a new home ----which he found a mile from Laurel Cottage! 😄
