Make your stay memorable while living in part of San Francisco's architectural history--the beautiful Oakley House. This historic townhouse is in a landmarked 2-unit building built in 1886 located in the Noe Valley neighborhood. Excellent restaurants & shops are a short walk away. The townhouse is furnished with style and comfort in mind. There are two upper floor bedrooms; the master bedroom has a marble fireplace and beautiful windows. The second bedroom opens to a balcony with views of Twin Peaks. The upper story bathroom has shower glass by artist Dorothy Lenehan (no bathtub.) A library includes a built in bookcase, comfortable sofa & flat screen TV. The first floor has 11' ceilings and tall arched windows with lots of natural light. Marble fireplaces are in both living room and dining room. Access the courtyard garden & a deck with potted lemon trees is from the gourmet kitchen. Antiques & modern furnishings offer beauty & comfort. The neighborhood is one of the city's best. Cheese, wine, fresh produce & some of San Francisco's best fresh bread is just a stroll away. Professional house cleaning required for stays over 30 days for additional fee. Parking garage available.

Who said it's foggy in San Francisco in August?

Some call it the sunny banana belt; others call it the doughnut hole, but our San Francisco neighborhood managed to escape the famous cat crawling fog on 24 of the 26 days we have been here in August. On the corner of a quiet tree lined street in Noe Valley, two blocks from beautiful Delores Park, and minutes to some of the best price-performing fooderies in the Mission stands the perfect abode, complete with all the amenities and comforts of home. The spacious apartment is beautifully appointed, and Kim and Mark have been wonderfully accomodating. We rented bikes for the month, and we have combed this place - what a quality way to see a city! We sadly have three days left here, but we look forward to returning soon to our new home away from home.

Gem in Noe Valley

This is a true gem in Noe Valley. Over the past few years, we have stayed in several monthly rentals in Noe Valley, and this one was, by far, the best. It is a boutique apartment with meticulous detailing, updated and modern (state of the art) kitchen and bathrooms. These days, postage size apartments are being listed as one-bedrooms, but this apartment is a gracious, two story apt that has a feel of a house, complete with garage and personal laundry room. The hosts, Kim and Mark, are lovely and welcome you as preferred guests. We are so pleased that they became our friends by the end of our stay. Thanks again, Kim and Mark for a fabulous stay in Noe.

Impeccable and perfect

We could not have asked for nor found better accommodation than Fair Oaks Street with Mark & Kim. Generous, thorough, spotless and perfectly situated in the city for all that we were after. I would stay there again without any hesitation.

Beautiful, but with cons

I’m only giving on a fair review (2 stars) of this property, because there were some highs and lows in our experience at this property.

We rented this property for 6 weeks spanning mid-September to late-October 2015. We live in San Francisco and used the rental as a temporary home during the early stages of our remodel of our home. We also celebrated our wedding with friends and family during the final week of our stay.

The positive notes are that this place is beautiful, close to a lot of amenities, had parking, and lots of space. Basically, everything you see in the other reviews is consistent with our experience during the stay.

On the negative side, we received a less-than-pleasant letter from the owners upon returning home from our honeymoon. The letter listed a number of items required to clean and fix numerous aspects of the house including: i) dealing with extra trash, ii) dealing with extra laundry, iii) removing a handprint on a wall, iv) sanding, priming, and touching up the baseboard on the stairs, v) additional collection and sorting of trash, vi) etching damage on a marble surface, and vii) replacing a chipped dinner plate. We were charged for all these items in total several hundred dollars.

We feel we took exceptionally good care of the place, as we felt its immaculate appearance deserves exactly the type of care that our own home would. We feel that these charges are unfair, are in some cases incorrect, and are inconsistent with the conversations we had with the owners. In short, we feel that as guests, we were treated unfairly.

In contrast, we used VRBO to rent a beautiful place in Kauai, Hawaii for our honeymoon. The letter we received from the owners after our stay was warm, friendly, and asked that when we return, we’d consider returning to their home.

In summary, this property has some wonderful attributes, but we felt we were unfairly treated by the owners.

Owner's Response: We prefer to return deposits - it means the place was left in the requested "tidy" condition and it is easier to ready for future guests. In over 20 years of renting no one has ever left such a mess - dirty dishes in every room, extra laundry from overnight guests, dinged up woodwork, empty boxes, bottles and other trash upstairs and down. We and our housekeeper had to spend numerous additional hours to restore the apartment to the excellent condition these tenants enjoyed when they first moved in. Mark and Kim

A perfect stay in San Francisco

My wife and I stayed for a full month at the Oakley house and we couldn't have asked for a better place, nor for a better location. We were already quite familiar with the Noe Valley, Valencia corridor and upper Mission areas from previous rentals in various other houses. But this one took the entire experience up by several notches! The house is exactly as gorgeous as it looks on the exterior pictures. That much-sought-after victorian cachet is all over it. And the interior of the house is actually more impressive than what the pictures lead to expect. There is a lot of room; everything has been thought trough to make the visitor feel right at home form the get go. All amenities are in perfect working order (the stove and fridge almost felt like they were brand new). The place is clean throughout. Mark and Kim, the landlords, are living next door so they are easy to contact for questions, etc. They have proven to be helpful and flexible with the little headaches caused by our cheque payment from a Canadian bank institution ;) And last but not least: there is a garage available for a reasonable extra cost. If you have a car, I would strongly recommend you use it. Parking in the area is hard to find!

All in all, we found Oakley house to be THE perfect place to stay in San Francisco.

Beautiful, well-located property

My husband & I are long-time San Francisco residents. We needed a short-term rental due to construction delays with a home we'd purchased. We chose the Fair Oaks rental because of: 1) its location (my husband once lived one block from the Oakley House; it's hard to beat this neighborhood for weather, amenities, walkability, access to public transit and convenient, central location); 2) the availability of off-street parking (parking anyway in the City can be very difficult; we wouldn't even consider a place without off-street parking); and 3) the photos (we were exhausted, and needed a relaxing retreat).

Oakley House exceeded our expectations. The home is beautiful, and has been lovingly restored by the current owners. The rental unit was actually the owner's unit at one point, so the finishes are much nicer than one normally finds in a short-term rental, even a high-end one. The unit is quiet, well-equipped and comfortably furnished. We did not have much interaction with the owners, but they were welcoming, pleasant and helpful. All in all, we had a delightful stay, and would recommend this property without hesitation. We would stay here again if the need arises.
