This lakefront log cabin is the place to relax with your family and enjoy a gentle sloping beach facing southwest. When you arrive at this home, named ‘Home Wind’ from Longfellow’s Song of Hiawatha, it welcomes you with all of the amenities you could possibly need for a relaxing and rejuvenating stay.
The main floor boasts hand-crafted cathedral ceilings in the spacious dining and living areas, and sports a large deck overlooking the lake, just 100 feet from the beach, with ample open views. The master bedroom and bathroom are also on the main floor, featuring a queen-sized bed, doors to covered porch, claw foot soaking tub and separate shower.
For the cooks out there, the country kitchen sports stainless steel appliances and a WOLF stove for your gourmet recipes. There’s also a roomy walk-in pantry, soapstone sink and rich cherry and granite counter tops. Historic antique flooring throughout the main floor is well over 130 years old.
The upstairs features two bedrooms; one with two twin beds and the other a cozy queen bed. For extra comfort and convenience, they share a full bathroom. The walk-out basement includes a roomy family room and large bedroom with two twin beds and a Queen bed. In the summertime the soft, sandy 300-foot waterfront is great for children of all ages.
Visitors love to kayak, swim, fish and dive off the swim platform. There’s a serene beauty that will allow you to simply melt into your surroundings, regardless of what you’re doing. The southwestern sunset views toward the mountains are a welcome treat for the eyes and soul. There’s also an outdoor shower complete with hot water. The way life should be.
Absolutely beautiful, clean, magnificently built log home! As many others have written, the pictures simply do not do this home justice! Comfortably and attractively furnished and decorated, too! Comfy beds, fully stocked kitchen, great appliances, lots of books and games, and loads of room for a large group. Our party included four adults, three teenagers, and three children; there was plenty of room to be together, yet also plenty of room to spread out for privacy, too!
We simply cannot say enough about the wonderfully maintained waterfront. Best we have ever experienced during our stays in Maine! The shallow, clean entry was especially terrific for our one year old grandson to be able to sit by the water's edge with his beach toys. Our 5 and 11 year old grandchildren enjoyed the gradual entry for swimming and snorkeling as well as jumping off the swim raft. The kayaks, two single and two tandem, were a hit and used all week long. This was the 11 year old's first experience kayaking, and he absolutely loved it. He was a pro by the end of the week! Even the baby enjoyed sitting in one and being pulled around in it at the shoreline!
Six of the seven nights we enjoyed the fire pit on the home's beautiful stone patio while enjoying a great view of the lake and the sounds of the loons. We also spotted several eagles during our stay.....many times flying right overhead! We were initially hesitant to book because the water is across the road, and we were concerned about trekking all the little ones and their gear; however, the water is right there, actually closer than other rentals we've stayed at where there isn't a road between the house and water! Nice level lot and walk to the water, too!
We visited downtown Bridgton (great shops), Ebeneezer's in Lovell (delicious lobster rolls and yummy homemade pickles), and Black Diamond Steakhouse and Sunday River Brewing Company in Bethel are the restaurants we enjoyed in the area (within 30-40 min).
Janelle, the owner, is a breath of fresh air. We have rented for the past four summers in Maine, and Janelle has been the first owner to check in with us shortly after our arrival. She makes you feel very comfortable and encourages her tenants to contact her at any time during their stay.....even provided her cell phone number! Thanks again, Janelle, for sharing your home and allowing our family to experience it!
To say that we enjoyed our week in Stoneham would be an understatement. We were greeted by a card welcoming us and a bag of dog treats for our boys, which we so appreciated. The house was fresh and clean and well stocked with eveything we could ever want or need. We enjoyed hours at the lake soaking up the sun and swiming out to the swim float. Our evenings were spent by the fire pit, playing games, or trying different brews at Ebenezers pub. The location of the house is fantastic...the best of every thing. Privacy and seclusion, but close enough to shops, restaurants, and day trips. We even road to the top of Mt Washington one day. You can't do better than this rental for your vacation!
We cannot say enough about this house and location. The house is better than it looks (imagine that). Tasteful in every sense of the word. The lake provided endless hours of fun for our three young children. After days in the sun a refreshing outdoor or 3 other showers and it was off to the tremendous deck for some refreshments. Cooking was a joy with a wonderful kitchen and a huge diningroom table. We will definitely return.
Our family of 4 (2 sons ages 10 and 11) stayed here for a week and we all had a great time. Boys stayed busy with fishing, swimming and looking for salamanders. There was complete privacy and serenity. The house was amazing. All the amenities you could ask for to feel at home. We enjoyed the gazebo for dinner during a brief thunderstorm and it was great watching the storm pass. Definitely a place we'd want to come back to again!
Great location and home - we have two teenage sons who spent endless hours swimming, fishing & kayaking. The downstairs is perfect for kids. The owners could not have been more helpful with questions and activities in the area. Will plan to return.
My husband and I, and our 2 children (plus one friend), ages 16 and 21, stayed here for a week in July. First of all - the photos were very accurate - the home even nicer than even the photos portray. I had even asked for a few more photos that weren't on the website and the owner emailed those to us. The lakefront area was very private with options to sit in Andirondack chairs, sit on the dock, or at the picnic table. There was a large float to swim out to. The home was clean and very comfortable and the kids were thankful for the wireless internet so they could keep in contact with friends, since they had a hard time with cell service. Our son loved having the basement area to himself, unless we went down there to watch a movie. The sound system in the living room was very nice and we came prepared with music CDs. We enjoyed a formal dinner at the dining table, only wishing we had brought tea lights to put in the candle holders. We enjoyed the BBQ and ate outside at the table on the deck, and when it was slightly buggy we ate in the screened gazebo. We had several campfires, using the firewood the homeowner provided. The property owner answered all our questions in a very timely manner, and was very helpful, providing tips on where to go for groceries and a good local restaurant, Ebenezers, which we never had a chance to try.
We highly recommend this vacation rental !
